CFNV reorganizes ‘With on-going budget challenges, and a tight local market to generate addi- tional revenues from’, the Board of Direc- tors of Community Futures Nicola Valley eliminated the full-time general manager position effective April 1st, while re-struc- turing options are being considered. GM Rob Miller held the position for the last four years, and brought a community- intensive approach to his job. He quickly got CF involved with local groups — Tourism Nicola Valley, Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, NV & District Food Bank, NV Community Arts Council — and worked hard to foster communication between CF, the City of Merritt & Cham- ber of Commerce. With Rob’s help, CF strove to redefine itself after the loss of the City’s economic development contract and the restructuring of the employment services delivery contract, which had been the organization’s core activities. Auditions for ‘Indian Horse’ The Thompson-Nicola Film Commis- sion is coordinating with Citxw Nlaka’- pamux Assembly in Merritt & the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Indian Band in Kamloops, and arranging for a film crew to video tape auditions for the Casting Director of the movie Indian Horse, based on Richard Wagamese’s novel. They are seeking First Nations male children, youth and adults ages 6 to 25 years for speaking roles of which many will be required to play hockey in the movie. “There is no charge to be video- taped because we want to help First Na- tions in the Thompson-Nicola region to have a good chance at being in the film, especially since the movie will be par- tially filmed in Kamloops and parts of the region” Robin Smith, Chair, TNFC. “Several First Nations mothers of young children and young actors have expressed a desire to tryout to be in the film but found the process challenging and we want to help with that” says Film Commissioner Victoria Weller. “We’re always looking to provide op- portunities for First Nations who live in and around the Nicola Valley” Wayne Kaboni, Manager of the CNA. In Merritt, parents of children who wish to audition and young adults are encouraged to call 250-378-1864 for an audition videotaping time slot or show up at 2187A Coutlee Ave. on Mon. April 11, Tues. April 12, or Wed. April 13, 3:30-7:30 pm. For those who cannot make the videotaping times, you can submit an application and videotape online at www.screensiren.ca/indianhorsecasting.
