What did the pig say to the gerbil? “I've got my scientist so well trained that every time I press the buzzer, she brings me a biscuit.”  A magician pulls rabbits out of hats.  An experimental psychologist pulls habits out of rabbits. What do you call ten rabbits marching backwards? A receding hareline. What did the bunny say when he only had thistles to eat? Thistle have to do! Suspicious disappearance Still no word from Brandy Rick & Catherine Thompson made an appeal Friday to their 32-year old daughter Brandy Cowell: “We urge you to call home We’re worried about you… please call home …” Brandy did not return home after an overnight visit with her new boyfriend on Aug. 31st, despite assuring her par- ents she’d be back for her 6-year old son’s first day of school. The boyfriend, Robert Bishop, has not  been reported missing, but R CMP are look- ing for him because he was the last person she was seen with Sept. 1st, in Princeton. Bishop is unemployed, recently of Kamloops and has a criminal record for a fraud charge in Squamish in 2007. He is apparently a “con artist” who has made his way across the country from New Brunswick, stealing from people over the years, police say. Pictures of Bishop in the media the past couple of days have prompted calls to police, some saying, ‘Yeah, he ripped me off years ago. It seemed like the same guy,’ but so far none of the tips have been useful, being too vague or too dated. Police say it’s not clear that the disap- pearance is an abduction. They will active- ly work on the case as a missing person’s report until they determine Brandy is safe. Water quality issues at Nicola Lake TNRD rep Randy Murray has spear- headed a request to the Min. of Envir. for more study and planning for Nicola Lake. “We do know it’s a heavily used recre- ational area. There’s heavy traffic with development. There are ranches in the area — all kinds of issues,” he said “[Residents] are seeing an increase in algae, milfoil and other weeds there are thicker. This year there’s a film on the lake.” MoE is involved in water quality plan- ning at Shuswap Lake, with public meet- ings, water quality testing & research reports. Randy thinks with increased development and use of Nicola Lake, they should consider a similar focus. Community Corn eating contest The NV Farmers’ Market is inviting everyone out for the First Annual Corn Eatin’ Contest on Sat., Sept. 18, 11am sharp — part of their “Family Fun Days”.
