An Insight into the Happenings of Mineral Springs

Happy New Year, everyone! Every year I like to write out my resolutions on pa-

per, frame them, and place them in a spot where I can revisit them everyday. Having that constant visual reminder helps me to

stick to my goals throughout the year.

In 2012, my goals included sending more thank you notes and making an effort to plan dinner with my friends at

least once a week. In 2013, I vowed to drink more water and be more punctual. And in 2014,

I had a whole long list of resolutions.

But this year I have just one resolution that I’m really trying to stick to. My 2015 New Year’s

resolution is to stop procrastinating. It’s my worst habit. When I get really busy, things like unan-swered emails, fast approaching deadlines and

even everyday to-do lists really pile up.

New Years Resolutions

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the

heart.

Helen Keller

Lauren Conrad, fashion icon and blogger, writes these thoughts on New Years:

Please join us as we give the gift of hope and joy to our clients that attend Mineral

Springs Center.

Will you help us show them how many people care for them and how all of their needs, great and small, are taken care of thanks to the generosity of compassion-

ate community members?

Q: How many years have you been at MSC? 2 1/2 years Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Getting to work with all the clients and their different personalities. Also, teaching them how to be as independent as possible and making a change. Coming into work seeing all the friendly smiles and hellos! Just being apart of their lives and knowing I am their to help them become amazing men and women. Mineral Springs Center is the biggest blessing in my life, it is not a job; it’s a family! Q: What are your favorite hobbies? Cooking, getting out and enjoying sunshine! Spending time with husband and family. Walking downtown with doggies; Bella & Willow. Q: If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be? More understanding that everyone is awesome in their own way and a disability does not change a person’s outlook on life.

DEBRA RODGERS Direct Care Staff, Workshop Q: How many years have you been at MSC? 33 years Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Working directly with our individuals one-on-one with their projects and goals. Q: What are your favorite hobbies? Music, sewing, vacations and grandchildren!! Pastor Tim Taylor.

Special thanks to

,to client .Joann Ross

Our study in March was based on African American Culture. We checked out books to study sport figures, inventors, political figures, and some that celebrate Kwanzaa, and its meaning. Mr. Jim Lloyd came in and

shared his life growing up in Chicago along with a powerful testimony concerning his spiritual belief, and how he is living it out today. We served Kashata (type of peanut brittle), Dabo Kolo (spicy cracker), Congo Bars

(brownies), Coconut Punch and Chia Tea. Some of our clients dressed in colorful themed clothes and we had brightly decorated our lunch room.

On January 30, 2015 we celebrated the retirement of one of Mineral Spring Cen-

ter’s longest standing clients: Marlene Tilley. Marlene attended the Center for

42 years. We celebrated Marlene’s retire-ment with a send-off party that in-

cluded Marlene’s family, friends and MSC staff. What a precious time we all

had making new memories and remem-bering past memories.

Best wishes, Marlene!

MSC Outings

Bingo, Circle J & Merciers!

One of the special clubs we have at MSC is the Funtimers Club. This exclusive club meets once a month, and is available to those clients that are ages 65 or older. The members of the Funtimers Club get to go

on special outings as a group and enjoy each others company.

Once again, our "Fun Timers" had their trip to explore the community. They played Bingo with the senior center folks in Ingles while enjoying a coffee or a beverage with a sweet danish of their choosing. One of June’s jobs, while playing bingo is to pass out game cards to each table, socializing as she goes. Today, was no exception. The director, who June usually sits at her table with, jokingly said "She still has to pass the cards out! She wasn't going to be getting away with just sitting with her other friends!" June and David both won a game, with a small bag of groceries being their prizes. Some of the folks were taken to Circle J for lunch. They enjoyed the hot bar and even went back for second helpings. Then it was off to Mercier’s Apple House for a tour of the facility. The director, Tony Jones, showed us the kitchen operation and the bakery, where all the goodies our made. Each of them was given a taste of a fried pie to enjoy. We walked throughout Mercier’s looking and asking questions about the operations. Questions ranged from inquiries about the varieties of apples to proc-essing and marketing. Everyone had a great trip.
