Introduction This guide gives you all the information you need to use the 5TUSA software to arrange modern pentathlon competitions. Read this guide if you are the operator who is going to use the software or you are the manager responsible for the software. We hope you can arrange the competitions without difficulty after reading this guide.

Overview The Modern Pentathlon (5TUSA) software was developed by Cardsys Ltd. to organise the modern pentathlon competitions. It is a part of the MP INFOSYS software package. The software works on the basis of the rules fixed by UIPM. It was a basic standpoint to support the competitions in two, three, four events as well for all age groups in the same flexible mode, as usual in five-event competitions. In addition, there is wide-ranging possibility for setting parameters to organise your own domestic competition with different parameters from default (fixed by UIPM) values, as distance, time, split lane, members of fencing team (2-3-4), bouts per match (1-2-3-4-5), etc. The order of events may be adjusted free (of course the events are in this order on the result lists). The software can handle the traditional and relay competition, the direct-final, semi-final, final type of competition. It can record the individual and team competition (in the team competition the entered and ordered forms are supported as well). It can generate automatically the semi-final groups (based on the position in the PWR), the final group (based on the results of the semi-finals), the group of horses (based on the earlier riding results). The software runs in IBM PC compatible environment on Windows platform. It offers a menu-controlled user-friendly interface. It is necessary only basic level computer technical knowledge to use. There are numerous built-in checking to avoid the incorrect data entry. The compact database contains all of related data, as competitions, competitors, horses, nations, clubs, etc. That is why data saving is not necessary on changing competition or exiting. You can see or print the results of one competitor on the previous competitions by events or total as well. On the basis of the previous competitions you can choose easily the best competitors. The arrangement of the competition is very quick. The change of the age groups is automatic year by year. You can easily set the various events’ parameters to fit the competition to the requirement. At the same time you can use different language on the screen and the printed lists. The program supplies various type of list, among others, the main database list, the entry forms, the entry lists (individual, team, relay, fencing teams), the start lists, the results, the match sheets for fencing, the swimming sheet, the riding sheet, the jumping test sheet, horse list, etc.

Basic terms These terms occur several times in that documentation. You have to interpret them in the given context described below.

Objects The objects are displayed on the screen. They contain selectable options, selectable elements, fields for modification, etc.

• Menu

A menu is a set of options. To select an option, click with mouse on the required option, or press the ALT key together the underlined letter of the option, or press the ALT key and use the arrows arrive to the required option. If an option is displayed grey colour, the option is disabled.

• Push Button

On the screen there may be push buttons. You can select with them sub-functions. To select a push button, click with mouse on the required push button, or press the ALT key together the underlined letter of the push button, or press the TAB key to put focus onto the required option and press the ENTER key. If a push button is displayed grey colour, the push button is disabled.

• List

List is a set of elements (names, teams, horses, etc.). To select an element of the list, double-click with mouse on the required element of the list, or press the TAB key to put focus onto the required element of the list and press the ENTER key. If a list is displayed grey colour, the list is disabled.

• Radio Button

Radio button is a set of sub-functions (different type of list, etc.). To select a radio button, click with mouse on the required radio button, or press the TAB key to put focus onto the required radio button and press the SPACE key. If a radio button is displayed grey colour, the radio button is disabled.

• Check Box

Check box is a switch to select filter, status, etc. The switch is set, if there is an ‘X’ in the check box. The switch is not set, if the check box is empty. To set a check box, click with mouse on the required check box, or press the TAB key to put focus onto the required check box and press the SPACE key. If a check box is displayed grey colour, the check box is disabled.

• Spinner

Spinner is a special input field. The field is connected to an upper and a lower arrow, which can step the value of the field up or down. To set the spinner click with mouse on arrows, or press the TAB key to put focus onto the required spinner and get the required value. If a spinner is displayed grey colour, the spinner is disabled.

Special keys These keys are not character keys. You can use them for controlling.

• TAB You can navigate object by object with the TAB key.

• ENTER You can choose an element from a list, or select a push button, or close a data entry with the ENTER key.

• ESC Usually you can abort a work with the ESC key.

• INS During data input you can alternate between insert and replace mode.

Registration At the first start of 5TUSA you have to register yourself.

Give your national abbreviation and registration key. If the registration is successful, it will not be necessary any more.

User entry

Give your User ID and Password to start using 5TUSA. It is necessary for being on the safe side, to prevent accessing data by illegal person. You can use your national code as user ID without password while there is not defined any user. It is strongly recommended to define a real user ID after the first entry (Other/User).

After a successful entry you arrive to the following screen. It contains the identifications of your software.

To go to the main menu press any key or click with the mouse.

Program Main Menu After the successful entering you can see the program main menu.

On the next pages we will go over these menu points to examine how can you prepare and arrange a competition.

Basic Data Menu Below the Basic Data Menu you can update the main database. This main database contains all the data that is necessary to arrange a competition. You can add here new records to the database, modify or erase records.

Competitor

On the screen titled Competitor’s database you can edit the personal record of the competitors. There is in the left-upper corner the list of competitors in the database. To restrict the list set filters below the list (Sex, Age group, and Nation). You can add a new record or modify the actual record. Choose the appropriate push button. If you add a new record and there is already a record with the same name, a warning message will be displayed. After entering the correct UIPM code the Sex and Date of birth field are filled automatically. It is strongly recommended to enter a correct UIPM code. To erase a competitor from the database clear the name of the competitor in the modify function, then press OK. You can erase the competitor, who has not been entered to any competition yet.

Team

On the screen titled Clubs, teams you can edit the record of teams, clubs, relay teams, fencing teams. The list contains the records filtered with Type filter (Club, Team, Relay, and Fencing team). To restrict the list set Nation filter below the list. To erase a record from the database clear the name in the modify function, then press OK. You can erase the record, which has not been linked with any competition yet.

Nation

On the screen titled Nation’s database you can edit the record of nation. The list contains the record of nations. To erase a nation from the database clear the fields of the record in the modify function, then press OK. You can erase the record, which has not been linked with any competition yet.

Horse

On the screen titled Horse’s database you can edit the record of horse. The list contains the record of horses. To erase a horse from the database clear the hose’s name in the modify function, then press OK. You can erase the record, which has not been linked with any competition yet.

Import You can fill or modify your competitor database from an external database. Basically it should be the DATABASE.DBF file, which is downloadable from the www.cardsys.hu web-site and it should be in the Database sub-directory, usually c:\5tusa\Database.

Press Directory button to choose another directory, which contains TORZS.DBF as source. The source directory must not be the actual working directory. Select One by one or All radio button as it is required. A double click on a competitor on the left side or pressing the Add button inserts the given competitor into the competitor database. If the given competitor has already been in the competitor database, only the ranking points, the ranking place and the swimming points will be refreshed.

Competition Selection

On the screen titled Competition Selection you can select a competition from the list to set being actual, add to the database a new competition, modify the data of an earlier recorded competition, or erase a competition. You can erase only the competition, which does not link with any group.

• Add a new competition

On the screen titled Competition’s parameters you can set the main parameters of the competitions. The filling of the fields in the upper part of the screen is obligatory. The default value of the host field is the owner of 5TUSA. To record a competition arranged in a different country modify this field as required.

Be careful with filling the date! You can modify any result data only till the given date. If you set the Competition category field as Other domestic competition, instead of the UIPM code the year of birth and instead of the nation the club is printed on all the type of list. In case of any UIPM official competition you should specify the UIPM ID of the competition. The XML file will contain this ID to identify the given competition on the UIPM web result. Please ask the UIPM office the value of the ID. You can specify a file name in the Logo file field. The file must be a BMP format file. Its bitmap image must be 16-colour 90 x 60 (90 pixels width and 60 pixels height). This picture will be printed on the top-right corner of all the sheets (start lists, result lists, etc.). The specified file must be placed in the working directory.

You can specify a file name in the Sponsor file field. The file must be a BMP format file. Its bitmap image must be 16-colour 150 x 50 (150 pixels width and 50 pixels height). This picture will be printed on the bottom-middle of all the result lists. The specified file must be placed in the working directory. If you do not want to arrange a jumping test, set the checkbox named Without jumping test. If you like to arrange an open competition, set the checkbox named Open competition. There is a check box named Direct data entry. It is a special feature to put results into database competitor by competitor without the full process of a competition. That is very useful to see all the results related to a competitor in the Browse. After adding a new competition it will be the actual competition.

Group Selection

Within the framework of a competition you can define several competition’s groups. Let us suppose you want to arrange a world cup competition with semi-final groups. In this case the competition is ‘World Cup for Women’ and there are three groups: ‘Semi-final Group A’, ‘Semi-final Group B’ and ‘Final’. Of course the parameters defined in the screen titled Competition’s parameters apply to all the groups in the same way. On the screen titled Group selection you can select a group from the list to set being actual, add to the actual competition a new group, modify the data of an earlier recorded group, or erase a group. You can erase only the group, which does not contain any entered competitor.

Add a new group or modify an earlier defined

If you add a new group or modify an earlier recorded group, you arrive to the screen titled Group’s parameters, where you can specify the main parameters of the group. You have to get the name of the competition’s group. You can select the traditional or the team-relay competition. You can set whether there is a team competition or not. To define a qualification group use “A”, “B”, “C” or “D” for the different groups. E.g. Men Qual. Group “B”. Among the team competition specified in the rule there is offered three additional types of team competitions for the special requirement. Normally you enter the members of the teams before starting the competition. You can generate the result of the team in other special way.

• Ordered Appreciation Depending on the number of the team’s member the software selects the first, second, etc. competitor on the basis of their result, who belongs to the same club (or nation, if the competition is international).

• 4/3 You have to enter four members into team in normal way, but the result of the team is calculated only from the three best competitors’ result.

• 5/4

You have to enter five members into team in normal way, but the result of the team is calculated only from the four best competitors’ result.

To arrange a combined event, set the check box named Combined. Setting-up the order of the events To change the default order of the events select the Event’s order push button.

The list on the left side is the set of the events. The list on right side is the actual order of the evens. First you should erase the events, then add them in the required order. To modify the lists use the Add or Erase buttons or do a double-click on the required event and the actual event will be moved to the other list. If combined event was set, you can not choose the Shooting event.

In case of a combined event

The default values of the parameters are defined by the modern pentathlon rules, but you can modify these values in a wide range to arrange a special (domestic) competition. Until starting the competition the default values can be set back with pressing the Default value button.

Examples for special use

• You want to generate a swimming start list with two competitors by lane. Set the check box named Split lane.

• You want to use different distance for running. Set the related parameters as you wish.

• You can arrange the fencing event contrary to rule with three or four members per fencing teams. Set the field named Number of members to the required value.

• You can arrange the fencing event in another special way, when competitors do not fence in team and you want to put results match by match. Set the field named Number of members to one (1).

You can choose between simply and detailed data entry in fencing, shooting and riding event.

Warning! The modification of some parameters is disabled after you start the data entry. That is why very important to set the correct values before you start a competition.

Fencing group combination You have got two or three or more groups in different age group (or sex), but you want to arrange the fencing event together. Define a group only with one event (fencing). In this case in the Competition menu a new menu point (Fencing group combination) will be appeared.

After choosing this menu you can connect to the given competition group the different competition groups. On the upper side there are the optional competition groups and on the lower side the connected competition groups. You can change the position by a double click or pressing Enter. You can arrange the fencing event in this special group, but the fencing results will be carried over automatically to the appropriate groups. This special feature for fencing is valid only in individual competition. You can connect a competition group only once.

Split fencing In a special case you have to arrange the fencing event in split groups. For this solution you have to set in the Event’s parameters screen the Split fencing parameter and you have to set up the competition groups for the split fencing with the setting “One event”. In the Competition menu a new menu point (Split fencing) will be appeared.

Fencing group combination

After choosing this menu you can split the given competition group to the different competition groups. On the upper side there are the optional competition groups and on the lower side the split competition groups. You can change the position by a double click or pressing Enter. You can arrange the fencing event in the special split groups, but the fencing results will be carried over automatically to the appropriate group. This special feature for fencing is valid only in individual competition. You can spilt a competition group only once.

Fencing group change The split of the group will be done after choosing first time this menu point. The following screen will be appeared.

If the groups are not balanced, you can change any athlete between the split groups. After split the groups you can not modify the group connection till there is any athlete entered to any split group. If you want to modify the connection, you must erase all the athletes from all the related split fencing groups. Formázott: Felsorolás és számozás

Individual Entry Basically there are two types of individual entry. The first type is used when you set the check box named Direct data entry in the screen titled Competition’s parameter. In this case you can perform the individual entry and the data entry together.

The other type is used usually. The entering procedure is the same in both cases. You can enter the competitors with selecting from the list or pressing the Enter push button. Use check boxes below the list to restrict the elements. Use the Erase push button to take out a competitor from the registered athletes. Use the New push button to enter a competitor who is not in the database. So you can add a competitor into the database without returning to the Basic Data Menu. If you enter a new competitor and the fencing teams have already been fixed, you should repeat the fencing team entry. You can erase a competitor from a group, only if he is not in any team and fencing team and the data entry has not been started in the actual group yet.

Special cases

• Direct data entry mode

After you enter a competitor use the Results push button to put in his results. On the screen titled Results by events edit the fields event by event.

• Semi-final groups If you arrange a competition with semi-final groups, first enter all the competitors to the first semi-final group. Then generate from this group the semi-final groups with Qualification group/Group generation menu point (see later). If it happens you have to change competitors from a group to other, use the Remove push button and select the new semi-final group.

• Final After finishing the process of the semi-final groups you can generate the members of the final with the Final entry menu point (see later). That process is based on the fixed rules. To modify the final, you can erase a competitor or add a competitor to the final, but you can select only the competitor who was linked to any semi-final group.

Team Entry

Use this point if there is a team competition and the type of the team appreciation is Entered, 5/4 or 4/3. On the screen titled Team entry there are two lists. The upper list contains the selectable or selected teams (depending on the setting of the Registered teams (Erase) check box). The lower list contains the selectable or selected competitors (depending on the setting of the Team’s members (Erase) check box). To enter a team first select a team from the upper list, then add to the team the competitors from the lower list. Set the check box related to list to erase a team from the competition or a competitor from a team. The team entry is correct only that case, if all entered team is linked in full number (number of members is defined on the screen titled Group’s parameter). It is not necessary to enter all the competitors to any team. Use the New push button to enter a team that is not in the database. So you can add a team into the database without returning to the Basic Data Menu.

Be very careful! You can do team entry only while you have not started the data entry in any event of any related qualification group.

Relay Entry

The relay entry is very similar to the team entry. On the screen titled Relay entry there are two lists. The upper list contains the selectable or selected relay-teams (depending on the setting of the Registered teams (Erase) check box). The lower list contains the competitors. To enter a relay-team first select a relay-team from the upper list, then add to the relay-team the competitors from the lower list. Set the check box related to list to erase a relay-team from the competition. The relay entry is correct only that case, if all entered team is linked with three competitors. Use the New push button to enter a competitor who is not in the database. So you can add a competitor into the database without returning to the Basic Data Menu. Use the New relay push button to enter a relay-team that is not in the database. So you can add a relay-team into the database without returning to the Basic Data Menu. After giving the members of the relay-team press the Swimming time, start order push button to edit the values fixed on the Relay entry form by coach. Get the start order only for the first and second member. The third value will be generated automatically.

Qualification Groups After entering the competitors you should group them to arrange a competition with semi-final groups.

Group Generation

On the screen titled Semi-final entry there are two lists and a spinner. The list on the right side contains all the competitors. The list in the upper-left corner contains the semi-final groups. You can give the number of qualification groups with the spinner on the lower-left corner. If the required values are set, press the Start push button and wait while the process is running. If in any case you want to re-build the groups again, set the spinner to one (1), press the Start push button, wait until the end of the process, set the spinner to the original value, and repeat the generation of the groups. If you choose a competitor from the list on the right side, you can check which semi-final group belongs to him.

Group Change

You can modify the qualification groups manually. Select a competitor in the filtered group and press the required push button you want to put into. You can change the groups only before starting the competition. Under the push buttons you can see the number of the competitors in the given semi-final group.

You can check the entered competitors or relays by nations.

Final Entry If you arrange a competition with semi-final groups, after processing the semi-final groups you should select the competitors who get into final.

On the screen titled Final entry there are two lists. Originally the list on the right side is empty. The list in the upper-left corner contains the semi-final groups. To generate the members of the final press the Start push button and wait while the process is running. If in any case you want to build the groups again, only repeat the generation of the final. If you choose a competitor from the list on the right side, you can check which semi-final group belongs to him.

Status setting You can set the status of any entered competitor. The setting is possible before starting the competition (event), or during the competition (event).

If the competitor is not valuable in an event, the valid status may be ‘Abandon’, ‘Eliminated’, or ‘Didn’t start’. There are two modes for status setting depending on the radio button below the list on the left side.

• Competitors Press the Modify push button or select directly the status related to the event, if the setting is connected to only one event. Press the OK push button. Press the Erase push button to set all the events to ‘Didn’t start’ status for the actual competitor.

• Events

You can set the ‘Didn’t start’ status for all the competitors who has not got valuable result in a selected event. Select the required event with a push button, then press the Erase push button.

If you set ‘Didn’t start’ status for any competitor before generating the start order, the competitor will not be fixed on it.

You can set the status during data entry of an event as well.

Be very careful with fencing event! In this case the status setting has an effect on

the result of the other competitors. The main values related to fencing event, the results of the competitors and ranking will be recalculated, and matches will be erased. However before finishing the fencing event you can set the original status for fencing, the data entry becomes difficult a bit.

Disqualification You can disqualify a competitor from the competition. Be very careful! In this case all

his results for the selected competitor will be destroyed.

Select a competitor from the list on the left side, and set the Disqualification check box and press the OK push button.

Jumping Test If you want to organize the competition with riding event, you should arrange the jumping test (inspection). You have to perform the next two points only once per competition.

First you have to give information about the riding course. Give the number of the obstacles, the obstacle that is the double jump and the triple jump.

On the screen titled Jumping test results you can give the required data. There is a list in the left side. If the radio button is set to Horse entry, the list contains all the horses from the database. Give the identification number to enter a horse to the jumping test. Set the radio button to Jumping test before starting the jumping test. During the jumping test put the faults to the fields. You can put the penalty points, or only the first letter of the fault. The summarizing is done automatically. After finishing the jumping test you can print the result in ordered form.

Horse registration On the screen titled Horse registration you can enter horses into the actual group. There is a list on the left side. It contains all the inspected horses.

Press the Enter push button or select directly from the list a horse to enter into the group. In case of relay-team competition you can link the horse with a group of horse through the spinner on the right side. Press the Erase push button to remove an earlier entered horse from the group. Set the Reserve check box, if the horse is reserved.

Events Menu The Event Menu is disabled, if there is not any entered competitor (or at least two entered relay-team in case of relay competition), or the actual date is later than the final date of the competition. Below the Events Menu you can perform all the work connected to events including start orders, data entry, etc. An event is enabled in the Events Menu, if it occurs in the actual group.

Shooting First of all generate the shooting start order. You can see it on the display, you can check it or you can print a copy. After generating shooting start order the shooting data entry will be enabled and you can start to record the results. Decide the data entry mode (single, detailed, group) before starting data entry.

On the screen titled Shooting start order you can generate, display or print the shooting start order. The generation of the shooting start order will be performed by the rules (alphabetical order or result order in final). You can turn over the pages. Until starting the data entry you can generate the start list again.

If you record the result in details, use the numeric keys for the values (0-9), the ‘X’ key to record the value ten and the ‘C’ key to record the central ten. The shooting points may be rectified by giving penalty points. If there is a competitor without result, you can set his status with the field on the lower-right corner as described in the status setting paragraph. Shooting Data Entry / Group 5TUSA can contact with external equipment. The communication can work with one or simultaneous more devices in shared mode. Connect the equipment with the PC to use this type of data entry and set the field named Shooting data entry to the required value. This application contains the connection with the RIKA or DISAG shooting appraiser. If you use two devices, the booths are divided into two parts by 5TUSA.

Set the required basic values to start loading and press the Load push button. During data entry check continuously the value of Next booth and Next target. If you want to stop data entry, press the Interrupt push button. The value of the target is signed the way described in the previous paragraph.

Fencing The first step is selecting the fencing teams. The number of the competitors in the fencing event is limited in 66 athletes. After that the remaining points related to fencing are enabled and you can start to record the results. Decide the data entry mode (single, detailed) before starting data entry.

Fencing Team Entry The way to enter the fencing teams is fairly similar to the team entry or relay entry.

On the screen titled Fencing team entry there are two lists. The upper list contains the selectable or selected fencing teams (depending on the setting of the Registered teams (Erase) check box). If the Registered teams (Erase) check box is set, you can set the Teams by number check box to sort the fencing teams by its number. The lower list contains the selectable or selected competitors (depending on the setting of the Team’s members (Erase) check box). Set the Nation check box to see on the lower list only the competitors whose nation fits to the nation of the fencing team selected on the upper list. The competitors with status set previously to ‘Didn’t start’ are not on the list. To enter a fencing team first select a fencing team from the upper list, then add to the fencing team the competitors from the lower list. Set the check box related to list to erase a fencing team from the competition or a competitor from a fencing team. It beeps, if the number of the members reaches the maximum value of the members defined on the

screen titled Event’s parameter in the Number of members field. The team entry is correct only that case, if all the entered competitors are linked with any fencing team. It is not necessary to enter into all the fencing teams the maximum number of the members, it may be less. Use the New team push button to enter a fencing team that is not in the database. So you can add a fencing team into the database without returning to the Basic Data Menu. After entering all the fencing teams press the Sort push button to order them by the rule. (The fencing teams are in alphabetical order, but the MIX fencing teams are at the second part of the list.) After drawing of the fencing teams it may happen to change the team numbers. When the organizer (or a nation) has not more than one fencing team the easiest way is to select the fencing team with number one, to put into Team number field one (1) and to answer ‘Yes’ to the ‘Do you want to renumber team?’ question. Otherwise it is necessary to do a special type of drawing. After drawing you have to put for all the

fencing teams the new team number. Be careful! After that do not use the Sort push

button, because it reorders the fencing teams. If during returning from this screen 5TUSA finds any abnormal data in fencing team entry, a message is displayed. If you abort the fencing team entry in spite of this message, the fencing team entry will not be correct and you can not start the data entry.

Fencing Drawing You can change the members of the fencing teams or draw the piste 1 for a fencing team.

The teams coloured with red are fixed and they can not be changed with drawing. Before drawing you can change members. Click succession on the two competitors you want to

change. Be careful with the members in the mix fencing teams, because they are not

checked. To start the drawing by the computer press the F8 push button. Wait until all the fencing teams appear and press any key to draw a fencing team to the piste 1. After some seconds the order of the fencing teams will be changed. Click on the fencing logo on the upper left corner or press the ESC push-button to exit from drawing. If you make the drawing in any other way, after the drawing click on the number of the selected fencing team to connect it to the piste 1. All the remained fencing teams will be reordered automatically.

Fencing Data Entry / Within team

The competitors belonged to the same fencing team start the fencing event among themselves. You can record the result of the bouts on the screen titled Poule sheet within team. Put into the fields the number of hits won a competitor. If the sum of the related hits more than the value defined on the screen titled Event’s parameter in the Number of hit/match field, a message is displayed. In this case you have to find the fault and you have to correct it. If the sum of the related hits less than the value defined on the screen titled Event’s parameter in the Number of hit/match field, a warning is displayed. Its meaning is, that may be one or more double defeats were occurred. Assent or correct it depending on the result. The fencing teams are offered one after the other. If you select a fencing team with one member, a warning message is displayed. If you are in the input field of the team numbers, you can use Page Up and Page Down buttons to go through the pairs without any modification.

If there is a competitor without result, you can set his status with the field on the lower-right corner as described in the status setting paragraph. Set the Total result check box to display the actual result of the selected competitor after closing his data entry. The same effect occurs, if you double-click on the Total result string. Warning! You can work only this way, if the number of competitors more than 66.

Status Report During the fencing event you can see some statistics of the competitors and the fencing event. You can see the individual results in any time as finished matches, rest matches, victories, defeats, matches between each other.

You can study the matches between competitors. Select a competitor from the list on the left side by name or by fencing identification number. On the list on the right side you can see the adversaries depending on the radio button below the list.

• All This is the default setting. Select this filter to see all the matches.

• Missing bouts Select this filter to see only the missing bouts.

• Double defeats Select this filter to see only the bouts with double defeats.

When the heat is finished, press the Interrupt push button to break loading and press the Write push button to link the swimming time with the competitor. Riding Practically start the riding even with setting Riding Round’s Parameters. This can be done immediately after technical meeting. After finishing all the previous events you can generate the riding start order. Then the drawing is enabled. You have to close the drawing fully to start the data entry in the riding event. 5TUSA can contact with external equipment during the data entry of riding event. Connect the equipment with the PC to use this type of data entry and set the field named Riding data entry to the required value. This application contains the connection with the SEIKO timer.

Riding Round’s Parameters

The riding start list contains the warming-up time and the start time as well. There is a fixed interval between two competitors. It is theoretically a constant value. You have to give this value on the screen titled Round’s Parameters. If there are more than one round in the riding event, give the additional information. There are four fields represented the start time of the first competitor in each round. The warning-up time is calculated from the start time. You can modify these values after generating riding start list as well. In this case all the warning-up time and start time are recalculated.

Riding Start Order

The Riding start order is enabled, if all the previous events are completed. On the screen titled Riding start order you can generate, display and print the riding start order. You can turn over the pages. While the drawing is not complete, you can generate the start list again.

Riding Drawing

On the screen titled Riding Drawing you can link the competitors with the horses. Select a competitor from the list on the left side and give the identification number of the horse into the Horse ID spinner. In any case a competitor changes a horse later, modify this value. If there are more than one round in the riding event, all the competitors who were drawing together get the same horse number. The drawing is complete, if all the competitors are linked with horse number. After that you can start the data entry in the riding event. In case of competition with relay-team the drawing is different a bit. On lower side of the screen you can see the competitors belong to the selected relay. They are in the earlier specified order. Link the selected relay with the number of horse’s group in the first step, then give the horse number to the competitors.

The single data entry is very easy. Select a competitor, give the running time and the penalty points (if there are). However there are two basic types of the running event (handicap and pack start), the data entry is very similar. In both cases you have to fill the Clock time field. The result (real time) and the running points are calculated automatically from it. When a pack start is set, the clock time and the result time is the same of course. The running points may be rectified by giving penalty points. If there is a competitor without result, you can set his status with the field on the lower-right corner as described in the status setting paragraph. Set the Total result check box to display the actual result of the selected competitor after closing his data entry. The same effect occurs, if you double-click on the Total result string.

Clock time adjustment in case of single data entry

In case of Combined Event generally you should adjust the clock time of the athletes started with pack start because of the more than 2:00 handicap time. The clock times which should be adjusted are signed with red C.

- Look for any athlete with more than 2:00 handicap time - Stay on the clock time of the given athlete - Press F8 - The clock time will be adjusted and the red C will be disappeared.

If you exit from the single data entry screen in case of any pending clock time adjustment, the following message will be displayed:

Be careful! You cannot print any combined or total result list in case of any pending adjustment.

Running (Combined Event) Data Entry / Group

You can use another way for running data entry. On the screen selected from the Running / Data entry / Group menu point the running data entry is supported with a full screen editor. Put into the fields on the left side the start number of the competitors. The order of the start number must be the equal with the order of crossing the finish line. Put into the fields on the right side the clock time, or load the time from the external equipment (if there is). The real time, the running points and the total points are calculated automatically. An automatic point correction is done, if it is necessary. If you set the check box in the lower left corner named Check, 5TUSA checks whether the clock time recorded yet is later than the previous or not. There are three special features to modify data.

• CTRL-INS You can shift down the fields with one position considering that field where you stay. So an empty field comes into being to insert a new start number or clock time depending on the column.

• CTRL-DEL You can erase the actual field and shift up the fields with one position considering that field where you stay. So an empty field comes into being at the last position of the given column.

Clock time adjustment in case of group data entry

In case of Combined Event generally you should adjust the clock time of the athletes started with pack start because of the more than 2:00 handicap time. If you try to exit from the data entry screen in case of any pending clock time adjustment, the following question will be displayed:

Press Yes button, if you do not like to print the recorded times before the adjustment. All the recorded times in the given heat with more than 2:00 handicap time will be adjusted and the following message will appear:

Press No, if you would like to omit the adjustment just now. This can be useful, if you would like to print the recorded times before the adjustment. You have got a new option.

Press Yes button, if you will do later the time adjustment.

Press No button, if in spite of the start list you did not use pack start for any athlete and no adjustment is necessary. Be careful! You cannot print any combined or total result list in case of any pending adjustment.

Team Below this point you can display all the types of team competitions, including the relay competition. The screen titled Relay total results is very similar to the screen titled Individual total results. All the relay’s members are displayed, but only their summarized results are displayed. Displaying of the team competition is different. You can see on the screen the name of the team, the members and only their summarized results. If you select an ordered team competition, the members are displayed according to their results with descending order. If a competition is arranged with semi-final and with team competition, the competitors who could not be qualified into final are signed with an asterisk (*).

On the screen titled Result query you can select an athlete to display his results. Use the check boxes on the lower right side to restrict the list on the left side. If a check box is set, you can choose a nation, a club, etc. from the field next to the check boxes. The main data of the actual athlete are displayed on the upper right side. The default is the total result, but if you press the push button on the top of the screen, you can display the results related the pressed push button. The events (shooting, fencing, swimming, riding, running) and the total results are symbolized by the push buttons. If you want to make a copy of the results, first choose the Printer push button on the lower left corner then press the Print push button in the middle.

On the screen titled Ranking you can set numerous parameters and filters to select an event or a type of event. You can print the results from the best to the worst. The vertical push buttons symbolize the events and the total result. Push the required push button. Modify the field next to, if it is not the required value. Choose the Printer push button on the lower left corner, then press the Print push button in the middle.

Selection

Use this point to pick out competitors on the basis of their results for a later competition (e.g., European Championships, World Championships, or Olympic Games).

• Defining a new selection Press the New push button. Give the name of the selection and define the category and the sex of the selection. Press the OK push button to record the selection.

• Linking the competition Press the Modify push button. All the competitions on the list in the right side fit to the parameters of the selected competition. Choose from this list the required competitions with double-click. The selected competition appears on the list in the lower left. The overall result is calculated on the basis of these competitions. You can erase a competition from this list with a double-click. Press the OK push button to close the linking. Use the check boxes in the lower right corner to calculate the overall results without the worst result or without the worst riding.

• Horse drawing sheet It is a sheet to give it to the competitors during the drawing in the riding event. There are on the sheet all the data related to the competitor, as his start number, horse, warming-up time, start time, etc.

• Riding warm-up sheet The warming-up referee can fill this sheet. It is ordered by the start list.

• Drawing order You can print a special list to help drawing.

• Riding sheet It is an empty form for riding event. Only the entered horses (including the reserved horses) are listed. The horses are ordered by the start list.

You can add to the database a new user ID or you can modify your personal user password. This function does not work in demo mode.

Language You can change the language on the screen and on the printer. They work independently of one another. Select from the fields the required language. Press the OK push button to enforce them. In the demo version only the English and Hungarian language are supported.

Change Directory

The default working directory is defined by the setup procedure. Besides you can use more than one directory to store data. You can step into any different directory from the default directory. Let us suppose that you use the default directory named ‘5TUSA’ and you create sub-directories inside this directory. These are ‘1998’, ‘1999’, etc. These directories represent the databases related the years. At any time you can step into the required directory, and you can work in it. Put the name of the new directory into the Directory field to change the actual directory. The format of the directory name must be corresponding to the format specified in MS-DOS. Press the OK push button to select the new directory. If you specify a not existing directory, an error message will be displayed. If the operation is successful and the new directory is not the default directory, the new directory path will be displayed in the headline.

Copy Competition

You can load/save a full competition from/into a directory or from/onto a floppy disk.

• Save Put the destination path into the Path field, then press the Save push button to save the whole competition. Wait until finishing the process. The Save was successful message means passing the copy. If there is not enough room on the destination path, an error message will be displayed.

• Load Put the source path into the Path field, then press the Load push button to load the whole competition. 5TUSA checks whether the data on the source path are correct or not. In case of failure an error message will be displayed. Otherwise a list appears. The list contains all the competition in the actual database and two additional rows on the top. Select the Abort row from the list, if you still do not want to load the competition. Select the New competition row from the list to insert the source competition into the database. Select a competition from the list to replace an earlier recorded competition with the source competition. Be very careful! You can not get back the replaced data. Wait until finishing the process. The Load was successful message means passing the copy.

Copy Events

You can load/save an event of the actual competition from/into a directory or from/onto a floppy disk. You can use this point to arrange a competition with semi-final and you work more than one computer simultaneously in different places. You can have connections with the other computers during the competition in that way. Be very careful! The

starting data related to the actual competition have to be the very same on all the

computers. If 5TUSA finds any difference, the data transfer will be refused. On the top of the screen titled Save / Load event you can select the required operation. There are push buttons in the middle of the screen. They symbolize the five events. Put the source/destination path into the Path field. To save/load an event set the radio button on the top, select an event, then press the Start push button. A message is displayed to show passing the copy.

Erase Events

You can erase an event of the actual competition group. You can use this point to go back in the result recording in a fast way. This is the only way to erase all the fencing result if it is in detailed mode. Be very careful! After using this procedure you should record the

results again.

Database Check Sometimes it happens, that the database is injured. This may be in consequence of power cut or other similar case. This function performs a database checking and if it finds any confusing, it makes an attempt to recover the database.

Save Database

At any time you can save the actual selected database into another directory or onto a floppy disk. It is useful to transfer the whole database to another computer or you want to save the database before you prepare the database for the next year. Only the data directly connected to competitions will be copied. Put the destination path into the Destination field, then press the Save push button. A message is displayed to show passing the saving.

Erase Inactive Competitors

This point gives you a possibility to erase from the database the athletes who have not been entered any individual or relay competition. They are called inactive competitors. This is useful to start a new season and you do not want to keep all the competitors in the database. It is probably, if an athlete was not entered throughout the year, than he finished the competing. These competitors are not needed to keep in the next year. On the screen titled Erase inactive competitors there is a list on the left side. It contains the inactive competitors. You can filter the domestic, the foreign or all the competitors depending on the radio buttons below the list. If the list is empty, there is not any given type of competitor. Press the Erase push button to erase the competitor selected from the list. Press the Erase all push button to erase all the competitors selected with the radio button below the list. Be very careful! The data of the erased competitors are not recoverable. You have to add them to the database again on the normal way in the Base Data Menu.

Prepare Database As mentioned above, after finishing a season you can start a new year with a database contained the base data, but without the competitions arranged in the previous year. Because this point is very complex, there are several questions you have to answer. Read carefully the questions and answer them considering your wish.

Before preparing database it is recommended to save the actual database and erase

the inactive competitors.

Files for Support If you experience any abnormality in your database, please choose this menu point, collect all the files from the 5tusa\support folder, compress them and send the compressed file to the developer. After the investigation you will be informed what you should do.

Refresh ranking You can refresh the ranking, ranking points and swimming points in your competitor database. The downloaded database must be in the Database sub-directory. Press Refresh button to refresh the competitor database. You can filter the list by nations or by ranking points.

If anybody has not got ranking points, press Search button to check the database.

Using 5TUSA.INI file

You can define a configuration file to modify some condition during running 5TUSA. The name of the configuration file must be 5TUSA.INI. The structure of the file must be the following:

Using 5PATH.INI file

You can define a configuration file to control the directories used by 5TUSA. You can re-direct the different working files to different directories. The name of the configuration file must be 5PATH.INI. Working on a two-computer network The very simple mode is when only two computers are connected in network. Follow the next instructions:

• Setup 5TUSA on the first PC.

• Share the working (database) directory for reading and writing as well.

• Create a text file on the first PC in the directory where 5TUSA is started. The file name has to be ‘5TUSA.INI’ (there is a sample file named ‘5TUSA.IN

~’ in the setup directory)

Windows Vista or Windows7 In case of Windows Vista or Windows7 operation system you should start the Setupxxx.exe application as administrator. For this click right mouse-button on the application and choose “Run as Administrator” solution. If you put a command icon to the desktop, you should set the “Run as Administrator” property as well. There is not any problem on Windows7 32 bit In case of Windows7/64 bit you can choose any of the following solutions:

• On Windows7 64 bit Professional you should use own XP virtual machine and run the applications on it

• On Windows7 64 bit Home you should install any virtual machine and XP on it and run the applications on it

appears Usually the software can generate balanced groups, but sometimes it does not succeed. In this case there is at least one qualification group, where there are more than two athletes from the same nation. It is invalid by the rule. You should change some athletes manually in the Competition/Qualification groups/Group Change menu.

• Shooting/Data entry menu is disabled There was not generated the shooting start list – Generate the start list

• Shooting/Data entry/Group menu is disabled There was not defined shooting data entry in details – Modify the setting

Troubleshooting If a system error message occurs, push the Ignore push button. If the Ignore push button does not exist, push the Cancel push button and start again the process. If an error message is repeated, please make a note of the message exactly and inform the developer. If you close a screen and the main menu does not appear, press the Alt-M key combination. The main menu will come back. Quit from the program and start again.
