COMPETITION FORMAT Modern Pentathlon is a sport that involves 5 disciplines: Swimming, Fencing, Equestrian and a combined Shoot-run event. Both genders compete in 3 different events: individual, relay and mixed relay.

SWIMMING: There is a 200 freestyle competition. Competitors are seeded ac-cording to their best time for this event and are organized in heats; highest to lowest time results starting with the highest time heat and ending with the lowest time heat. Each heat will have athletes or-ganized by time, the middle lane is reserved for the athlete with the best time in each heat, the other athletes are placed alternately and progressively according to their entry times.

FENCINGWILL TAKE PLACE IN 2 ROUNDS:1. Each competitor will fence all the other competitors once (1 Hit round robin).2. A final round using a ladder system, the last places on the table will be the first to fence. The athlete that wins the bout will continue to fence and the loser will be eliminated. In the event of a double loss, the athlete that is ranked lower of the two will be eliminated and the athlete in the immediate higher position will continue.

EQUESTRIAN:

Before the competition, there will be a warm-up in the Paddock area, with a 20- minute time limit.

12

Technical ManualModern Pentathlon

The Organizing Committee will provide the horses for this compe- tition, which will be drawn by the athletes, who will ride a 350 m course with 12 obstacles and 15 jumps, including a double and a triple combination with at least 2 obstacles at a maximum height of 0.90 m.

COMBINED TEST(SHOOTING-RACE): This event is a modification of traditional shooting and running events, where you begin the race with a handicap (the addition of the points re-sulting from the athlete’s participation in the previous events; the earned points will be transferred into seconds, thus the athlete in the first place will begin at second 0 on the stopwatch and the rest of competitors will begin according to the time difference they have with the leader), not exceeding in 200m the shooting zone to get to the shooting zone, where each position with his or her respective target will be marked with the competitor’s number. The competitor will proceed to shoot at an electric target that has a 6 cm diameter with a laser gun. The target will be 10m away from the shooters and will flash a green light each time the athlete hits the target, 5 targets must be hit or a period of 50 seconds must pass (whichever occurs first) for the athlete to continue running and completing the 800 m circuit. This will be repeated until 4 circuits are completes (20 targets/3.200m)

FINALAt the end of the competition, if the regulations have been applied correctly, the official results will be determined by the competitors’ order of arrival at the finish line.
