L E A R N I N G F O R L I F E FROM THE HEADMASTER Welcome to the new school year! This week is always one of the most exciting weeks of the year as the excitement and enthusiasm among the children are almost tangible. But behind even the broadest grins there will be at least a small element of uncertainty. In assembly on Wednesday, I likened this to a new pair of shoes. The new shoes look incredibly smart, they have that unmistakeable new shoes smell and you know that they will take you to new and exciting places. But when you slip them on, they may not feel quite right to start with, and they are unlikely to be as comfortable as the worn-out pair of old shoes that they are replacing. Suddenly they have lost some of their appeal. In short, new shoes take some getting used to and, sometimes, so does a new school year. But both are full of promise and possibility as each child continues their journey. “Oh, the places you’ll go!” Very best wishes for a wonderful year ahead. The competition will be launched in Monday’s assembly. The winning entry will need to be drawn/created on an A5 piece of plain white paper and work well when reproduced on a letterhead and in much larger formats. LUNCHES Over the summer a great deal of work took place behind the scenes in our school kitchen and on Wednesday Palmer and Howell’s unveiled the new menu and new additions to the servery. And the children’s view is that the new menu tastes as good as it looks! The new menus can be found here.

ATTAIN Social mobility, finding perspective, gendered stereotyping, ten golden rules for parents, measuring a child's success, good manners and the rise of “Sindependence” are all topics featured in this term’s Attain magazine, which should have arrived home with your child. The online edition can be accessed and downloaded here. ACORN Our school magazine, The Acorn, will arrive home via pupil post next week. The Acorn provides a great snapshot of the 2018-19 school year, please keep an eye open for you copy! MUSIC FRESHERS’ FAIR Tomorrow (Saturday 7 September) sees the arrival of a new event at WPS. Between 10am and 12noon we are holding our Music Freshers’ Fair in the Prep School Hall. Children and parents from the Prep and Senior Schools are warmly invited to join us to find out more about learning an instrument at Wellington School. Children can try various instruments, including the new Prep School grand piano, meet our term of music staff and find out how to join a choir or ensemble. There will also be news about our concerts and music events, as well as live music from Wellington pupils. Please do come along to find out what this exciting and vibrant department has to offer!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You're off to Great Places!

You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself

any direction you choose.
