and Galloway. The town began to develop as Scotland’s first
spa resort in 1633 when a mineral spring was found nearby.
When a second spring was found in 1748 the town’s status
was ensured. Just 19 years later the world renowned
architect, John Adam, completed Moffat House Hotel on
High Street, now one of the towns crowning glories. The
town is considered one of the prettiest towns within the
Scottish Borders and Scotland as a whole.
A range of amenities can be found in Moffat including local
shops, cafes and restaurants all located within walking
distance of the hotel. Various leisure activities can also be
enjoyed including Moffat Golf Club, situated 1 mile away from
the hotel, and the Old Well Theatre, only a 5 minute walk
away. The town also boasts the Moffat Museum and the
Moffat Woollen Mill.
Moffat occupies an important position on the main route
between Scotland and England. It benefits from excellent
road connections, lying 1 mile to the east of Junction 15 of
the A74(M) which is the main link to Scotland to the north
and England to the south. Bus routes are also located on
High Street providing services to Dumfries, Glasgow and
Edinburgh.
