John grew up in the wheatbelt town of Corrigin. He has been painting in watercolours for thirteen years and has been awarded over 120 prizes.
Greg is a glass artist and has spent many years perfecting the production of dichroic glass, where glass is fired with metallic atoms and imbued with breathtaking reflective and refractive properties. John has a lifetime of experience in teaching and lecturing in Art Education. He has held fifty international Art exhibitions and his work is recognised by leading Art Critics such as Mrs Betty Churcher, former director of the Australian National Gallery. John is the Director of Alpha Studios Inc, a not-for-profit Art school and gallery.

Janine is a self-taught artist since retiring and has received valuable input from workshops in Perth, Victoria and Europe. She has won awards and been published in Australian Artist Magazine. Janine has had numerous exhibitions and her work is found in collections around the world.
John started to paint in 1970. His first solo exhibition was in 1971 at the Churchill Gallery in Subiaco. Since then he has had exhibitions in galleries in Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Perth, Albany and Denmark. John also has his own picture framing business. John has been a long time supporter of this Auction.
Jillian is a practicing photographic artist with a background in painting and as a commercial photographer. She holds a Cert. of Art and Design (TAFE) and is completing a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts at ECU. Peteris is an urban designer and practicing visual artist. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions and his work is represented in numerous collections in Australia and Latvia. Steve completed a Diploma in Graphic Design in 1971. He was in London and worked in advertising for thirty years in Perth. Steve has spent time doing fine art drawings of cars, mainly car clubs and speedway. Steve has work in galleries in the UK and USA. He now paints full-time and had his first solo exhibition last year.
Marco is a visual artist who graduated from ECU in 2000. He feels that printmaking is an exciting medium as he doesn’t know how the image will register until the very end. Perth is quite unique in the way a strange transition takes place at different times of the day.

Allan was born in Perth in 1938 and painting is his hobby. He has been painting for twenty five years and has exhibited in many galleries and local exhibitions. He won a prize in the City of Bayswater 2006 Art Exhibition. Allan has been a very generous supporter of this auction for the past four years.
In addition to the two pieces Alan has provided for the art auction, he has generously donated a third piece, which is the art auction’s major raffle prize.
Kerrie has an Associate Diploma of Arts (Photography). She has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and had one solo exhibition. She has been the winner of the Cities of Vincent and Gosnells Art Awards in Photography. Kerrie has lectured in Photography at TAFE for the last six years. Her work is to be found in private collections and in the Town of Vincent, TAFE – Art and Design, Skylight Photographics and the Holmes á Court Collections.

Jodie is a self-taught welder/artist who lives on a farm in the wheatbelt. Her unique sculptures are made from recycled rusty metal tools, machinery and spare parts. Jodie likes to bring new life to discarded pieces of metal by welding them together and forming something new. Some pieces are inspired by nature or the things people do, or from the parts from which they are made. Each sculpture is made with passion, love and humour.
Gladys holds a Dip of Art (Painting) and Dip of Fine Art (Painting and Printmaking) and is a generous supporter of the MLSHS community art auction. She has held numerous exhibitions and her work is found in collections throughout the world. She travels regularly overseas to masterclasses and is a foundation member of the Papermakers Guild of WA. Gladys was Artist in Residence at the Awa Washi Kaikan, Yamakawa, Japan. She was in Tasmania recently, attending the International Papermakers and Artists Conference.

Julian was born and educated in South Africa, where he practised as an architect and immigrated to Australia in 1988. He began his career as an artist in 1965. He has participated in exhibitions in Australia, South Africa, the UK, the USA and Bahrain. His works are found in galleries in Australia and in South Africa. Karen immigrated from South Africa in 1984 and considers Perth to be paradise. She has a background in IT and began her full-time artistic pursuits in 2000. She uses white acid free tissue papers which are then hand coloured using Australian made inks. The paper is then used as her palette and the images are built up through overlaying the papers. Murray is a former school teacher and past MLSHS student.He has been an art teacher, art reviewer and is a former Vice President of the WA Printmakers. He has his own studio and gallery and is a winner of many art prizes. He is represented in both public and private collections and has even appeared on the American NBC “Today Show”. His work has strong auction resale value.
Brenda was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and immigrated to Perth eleven years ago. She is largely self-taught and enjoys experimenting with different media. Brenda received second prize in the Osborne Park Show. She teaches children art and works with adults teaching mixed media techniques.
Keith is a WA born, qualified pharmacist who changed to full-time art. He has had many exhibitions and sold paintings throughout Australia and in England. Keith is known for his exciting use of bright colours and natural tones that make his work so distinctive - please stand back and enjoy them!

Marie is a Visual Art teacher with qualifications from various WA institutions. She has been involved with numerous group exhibitions since 2007. Marie likes to explore a range of mixed media, with a focus on colour, shape and found objects. She particularly loves the Australian environment.
After teaching Art and English in Secondary Schools in WA for 25 years, Sandra retired to pursue her own creativity. She has exhibited widely and has won several awards. Sandra is inspired by flowers – the intricacy of their many different shapes, forms and colours. Patricia worked for 25 years as a textile designer and has been painting full-time since 1990. Richard has been painting since 1963. Trained at the famous Artist School, Connecticut, Richard also studied Life and Commercial Drawing at Perth Technical College. He has held solo exhibitions and a number of mixed exhibitions overseas. His work can be found in private and public collections in Australia and overseas. Richard’s philosophy in painting is “what you see is what I do”.
Alma has a background in Commercial Art (RMIT, Victoria) and holds Diplomas in Art Studies and Printmaking. She regularly paints outdoors, mainly in pastels, but also in oils and watercolour. She paints portraits and botanical subjects in watercolour and pen. Alma exhibits regularly around Perth and is involved with the Ellis House Community Arts Centre in Bayswater.
Michael has exhibited for over 30 years in local, national and international exhibitions. He has received major public art commissions and numerous prestigious art awards. This year he was a finalist in the prestigious Sir John Sulman Prize hosted by the Art Gallery of NSW. His work is held in prominent national collections including the Australian National Gallery and the Art Gallery of WA. Michael has been selected for major national and local publications on contemporary art.

Margaret graduated from the Claremont School of Art with a Diploma of Art Studies in 1985. She has had numerous exhibitions at several metropolitan art galleries and in Margaret River since 1992. Her work is to be found in homes in WA and in the USA and is mostly gouache, watercolour and acrylic paintings; still life (wildflowers and birds); mosaics and terracotta sculptures.
June has a Diploma in Art and Design and has been a member of the Bayswater Art Society (BAS) for over 10 years. Between 1998 and 2002 she was awarded 2nd or 3rd place in the BAS Golden Palette Award, and won 1st in 2003. June participates in many local exhibitions and is involved with the Ellis House Community Arts Centre in Bayswater.
Narelle’s background is in Education. Having spent 13 years in the Pre-Primary classroom, she has had plenty of experience in creating large-scale murals. She has a hands-on approach to exploring a variety of media which has led to her using a variety of techniques within each of her works. Narelle has had one solo and numerous group exhibitions She won the Animal Art Awards in WA and had the work purchased by Robert Juniper.

Enrico holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Claremont School of Art. He has painted since the 1970s and exhibited extensively throughout WA. His most recent work is somewhat realistic, using thin glazes of paint to achieve subtle and luminous effects of light and darkness. The subject matter often expresses personal topics and experiences.
Lawrence Marshall is a qualified secondary teacher and has taught Photography in Schools in Western Australia and in Victoria. He has been taking photographs since 1976, as a freelancer, producing pictures for newspapers, calendars, book and record covers. His images are featured in books in the United States and Canada. Lawrence is currently working in Fine Art Photography. A book of Western Australian landscapes is awaiting publication. Lawrence has been actively involved with this Auction for a number of years.
Sunita grew up in an artistic household. She has a B Ed, with a major in Art and has studied Art and Design. Sunita has worked with various media exploring her creativity in jewellery, collage and textiles. This is her first time exhibiting in WA.

Lesley is an artist, curator and writer. She trained in London in the 1960s and came to Australia in 1969. For a time Lesley lived and painted in the Fiji Islands. She is represented in many collections, has won a number of awards and is documented in a number of significant Australian art publications.
Marie was born in Perth WA, raised and educated in Perth and Broome. She has an Associateship in Graphic Design (WAIT) and Diploma of Printmaking (PTC). She works in linocuts, screen prints and etchings. Marie is represented in numerous Australian and overseas private collections and has exhibited in many group and invited exhibitions. She lives and works from her home studio in Mt Lawley.
Sean is a freelance illustrator. He has been involved in almost thirty shows around Perth and held his first solo exhibition in August 2008. Sean has shown work in Sydney, Melbourne, Orlando Florida and Los Angeles, and is to have a solo show in Melbourne next summer. He has had work published in numerous national and international design publications and magazines including frankie and Wooden Toy.

Heather was born in Perth and has been painting since childhood. She holds an Art Studies Diploma from Fremantle Tech and a BA (Fine Arts) from Curtin University. She is a member of the Collage Art Group, ‘Connect 5’ and Artists in Arms who exhibit frequently in Perth and sells her work on a regular basis. Heather paints large colourful abstract pieces in oils and in acrylics.
Kate is from a family of artists. Her uncle is the late Michael Collins, a caricature artist. She is a past MLSHS student and is currently completing a Diploma of Art at Central TAFE. Kate has participated in several local exhibitions but this is her first time in this Auction.
With over a hundred one man exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas during the last 30 years, Leon holds his place as a well-known and important Australian painter and printmaker. His extraordinary creativity and imagination, combined with impressive technical skills, have resulted in a body of work which engages and challenges the viewer to experience his unique and frequently absurd view of society and landscapes. Sandy’s painting career has included painting and teachingin local, interstate and overseas venues. She has wonnumerous awards for watercolour in WA. Her subjectsinclude landscapes, beach scenes, buildings, cityscapesand flowers. Sandy’s method of painting is to lightly sketch the subject then apply watercolour colour in patches tocapture the light of the scene. Thin washes are applied inlayers to build up volume.
Judy was born in Budapest, Hungary and moved to Perthin 1995. She is currently the curator for the blend(er) gallery.Judy has been involved in numerous exhibitions. The storybehind these pictures is the exhausting saga of being ateenager today, the daily battles with self image and thenarrative of growing up. Judy wanted to portray strength and vulnerability, knowledge and innocence. The boards were carefully selected for their grain patterns not just to coexistwith the artwork, but to emphasise the topic.
“It’s nice. It’s different. It’s unusual.” words immortalised by Kath and Kim, are the essence of Jane’s creativity. After years of dabbling in every conceivable craft possible, 1999emerged as the most defining artistic moment of her life,winning the Best Overall Artist at the Women of the NorthwestMulit-Arts Award. Jane established ‘Funky Lady’ mosaicsand now she has a desire to try something new – abstractpainting. Nine months later: “I’ve got one word to say to you – loving it!”

Amanda lives locally but her work is to be found in collectionsthroughout Australia and she has exhibited in London, theUS, Korea, Hong Kong and Italy. Her work explores concepts of human instinctive, protective and nurturing nature, aswell as notions of home, domesticity and growth. Amanda’sdesire is for a closer relationship to Mother Nature and tobalance this with living in a suburban environment.
Joanna is a teacher with an interest in the Arts. She has experimented in many art forms and has a passion formaterials and embroidery. Beading is a way for her to express her love of colour, texture and form. These piecesare meant to be worn so that the wearer feels fantastic.Joanna has two daughters at MLSHS and this is her thirdCommunity Auction.
Delma was raised in Mount Barker where her love for native flora and rural life began. She has exhibited throughout WA over the last ten years, winning prizes and selling her work.Delma’s paintings have been acquired by many regionalbusinesses for their representation of rural life. Jill is a designer, glass artist and serigrapher. She trained in Graphic Design in Perth and Switzerland and ‘discovered’ glass in 2003. Her use of bold colours, textures and simple strong design is a hallmark of her unique pieces. Jill’s artwork is to be found in collections around the world. ‘Argentum’ is Latin for silver and this precious metal was the inspiration for this design. ‘Ningaloo’ is inspired by the reef of the same name – the brilliant white sands meeting the turquoise waters. Eli has over seventy years of making a living from his art. He is a multi-award winning artist and successful exhibitor at all of the major Western Australian exhibitions. He spent ten years as a court portrait artist and is a Life Member of the Bayswater Art Society. Eli is still painting and exhibiting in over twenty exhibitions a year and has been a regular contributor to this Auction.
