Spectacle – Leave Right now

Spectacle is often a music video where the singer is directly addressing the audience, this often done by looking directly at the camera at all time.The video I have chosen to analyse is Leave right now by Will young.Will is direct addressing the audience and this often for male singers, as their target audience is the female population. By making it seem as though Will is singing to them, and only them.Mulveys theory of the female gaze is actually applied here as the male singer is being subjected to the female audience gaze. Although this video is nothing sexual, it does still make the singer sexualised at the pint when his jacket is roped off him.

Narrative-Hero

The song hero is narrative as it tells a clear story though the lyrics. The lyrics and the video work well together to create a true meaning story that captures the audience. The song talks of a man and women travelling together , and they do not know they are being tracked by a gang of villains. The male is asking the girl to let him be her hero, and for her to not have to worry about anything as he'll always be there to protect her. The couple then get stopped by the gang, the male keeping his promise, acts as the girls hero and sadly dies.

Propps Theory

HeroThe main male is the hero as he inevitably sacrifice s himself for the girl as they are in danger. He is usually shot at a higher angle which shows his status as the hero. He is also often centred of the frame of the camera. The audience can relate to the hero though the many close up shots that are used to show his facial expression.

VillainThe Villain is the gang member as he is looking to cause trouble. He is usually shot at a lower angle which shows that he is of a lesser status than the hero. The Villain has no closes up and is never in centre of the shot which shows his not as important as the hero and that audience cannot relate to him.

Princess/HelperThe princess is the male characters love interest. She is also the helper as she is dressed all in white which connotes her purity and innocence. Like the hero is always in the centre of the shot throughout. At the end she is the princess due to her distress over the heros death.

Symbolic- Earth Song

The earth song is symbolic due to the lyrics working so well with the video. The song is about pointing out how we are destroying the planet, this is shown though deforestation,extinction of animals and war. Then video then symbolic,y shows how we can stop these disasters happening if we learn to respect the world.

Todovovs Theory

Equilibrium The Equilibrium starts with the shots of the forest. Everything is peaceful and as it should be in a rainforest.

Disequilibrium We see Michael walking. Though burnt down forest land. It's dark and sad. It shows what had happened to the rainforest in the shot before.

Recognition The recognition is the differ action of clips showing the world as it is today and how it was before. It shows how the human race have not cared and just ruined the world for selfish matters.

ReparationThe repreation stage is everyone kneeling in the dirt and digging it up. In Hope if remembering the world as before though memories in the soil.

New state of equilibrium The new state equilibrium is the world back to the way it was.The world has returned to how it was, all the animals are free and populated. Trees are grown and there is no deforestation or war.
