Volume 20 number 8 August 2009 Rolling Thunder! Official Newsletter of the Emerald Coast Regional Mustang Club MUSTANG MANIA Ed and his new toy Ed Keeney called me on 23 July to tell me his 2010 GT500 was here. So I ran out the door and drove down to Gary Smith Ford to check out the car. I got there first and saw it just out of the maintenance bay and being readied for the detail shop. To call it a car is wrong; the front fascia actually is kinda freighting to look at it looks like it is challenging you to step closer. The car is just pure aggression 540HP, over 500FT, open the hood and first thing you see is the cold air kit going to a throttle body big enough to suck in a small child! I mean the thing was scary! Ed gave me some thought on his new toy and I’ll just let him take over from here in his own words. My fascination with the Shelby Mustangs began in 1966 (I wasn’t even born yet) when I was 17 years old. One of my good friends older sister was dating an older Hot Rodder named Floyd. One day Floyd showed up with a 1966 GT350, red w/white racing stripes. I vowed that day I would own a Shelby! Along came Vietnam and with that a 1-year vacation in a hospital after I was shot up, and then released from active duty I came home. I got married and started a family; the Shelby became a distant memory & then impossibility as their prices shot up through the sky. Page 1 of 16

Volume 20 number 8 August 2009 40 years later & a new Mustang in 2005 & the Shelby Mustang was back for 2007. They were still pricey for me though. In June 2007 I was at my 40-year class reunion in Carlsbad, NM. The local Ford dealer had a 2007 Shelby GT and I jumped on the car & bought it for a song. I really liked this Mustang & it drove incredibly I drove the Shelby to the 45th Mustang Anniversary celebration at Barber’s Motorsports park in April 2009 & I drove it as fast as I could for 30 laps during the open track event. Those 30 laps were the best time I ever had driving any car. Then I saw the 2010 GT500 in Kona Blue with silver stripes knew right then and there that I was getting that Mustang, it was Lust at first sight. As luck would have it Gary Smith Ford’s first 2010 GT500 was a Kona Blue w/Silver stripes, needless to say I took delivery of the car, on 23 July and the rest is history!! ps I plan on taking Floyd for a ride!! Ed If I may suggest a name for your new Toy going with the theme we talked about with “Agent Orange” I think “Rolling Thunder” would be fitting, I can’t wait for my turn in the right seat! Ciao!!

Page 2

Top Left the Evil Front end, Top Right 19” Wheels & Tires, Bottom left 4” exhaust (bigger than Kara’s mouth!) Bottom Right a symphony of power. Ed gave me a quick ride, he tried to break my neck jamming gears I’ll tell what you definitely get your butt planted in the seat when the Supercharger kicks in and that whine………chills run down your spine!! Thanks Ed for the ride!

The ECRMC Tail Pipe Test N Tune Friday 17 July 09 was a great night there was about a dozen PFO & Mustang Club cars there. I personally improved my ET by almost a full second and my mph by almost 3 mph. I guess the SLP Loudmouths and my confidence is working. I plan on going once or twice a month to the track and having more fun. An impromptu rule was made at the track on 17 July if you get beat by a “rice burner” and you’re caught by a member of the club, that’s a case of beer. The beer is to keep your name out of the newsletter so you’re not embarrassed any further. And yes I got a case of beer on the 17th so I’ll only say that best beer is always bought by someone else!! I want to thank everybody that came out to the Ice Cream cruise 11 July and the Hooters dinner cruise 18 July. I’m going to keep those cruise nights the same unless anybody has a suggestion for other venues. Update on the 20 Sept First Annual Club Picnic, Longhorn Steakhouse of Destin is sponsoring the food! So I need RSVP’s from everybody early so we can tell Steve the manager at Longhorns how much food to bring. I’m keeping a list of those who have RSVP already so they will get first dibs on the food, if you don’t reply and show up and don’t get feed don’t look at me! Cut off for the RSVP is 1 September after your on your own! Still need help getting couple of “Porta Potties” for the picnic, if you want to step up and help please let me know! Paul Forakis is looking for a travel buddy to car pool up to the Mustang & All Ford Show, in Nashville, TN on September 19th. You’ll be able to take your car out on the track at Nashville Speedway and run up as fast as you can go. Call Paul at 850-496-1118 for more information. Friday, September 4th at Tyndall Air Force Base, there will be a fundraiser for the Air Force Ball, bring your Mustang for pictures next to the F-22 Raptor!! This will be for ID card holder only. As I get more info on exactly what the show times are I’ll update everyone. Welcome to the Club Dustin Shorey, he has a White Convertible GT/CS Sharp looking car! Also Welcome to Dave Corkum his family and his corral of Mustangs Emerald Coast Car Show, 12 Sept at FWB high School, there is 50 classes for trophies. Go to www.emeraldcoastcarshow.com for more info. Andalusia Classics & Streetrods, inside car show, 19 Sept. at the Andalusia Kiawanis Building in Andalusia AL, contact Ronnie Kilgore 334-222-4227 or Harold Mitchell 334-469-5494

OK you all know that I love Miss Terry at

Quality Car Mats. Well I have another small company I’d like to introduce to you.

LS Embroidery Lori here can custom embroider your headrests and let me say cheap. You all know that I will try to get oxygen for free and Lori did my headrests for my GT/CS and they look great. Bad news is she and her husband are being stationed to Minot ND for 2 years. Lori will still do the work but you’ll have to do it through the mail till she returns in 2 years time. I’ll stay in touch with her and make sure we have her new address. Trust me it will be worth the wait! Thanks Lori!! Ciao Vinnie

Ok for real, a new page for the Mania, “Pet of the month.” Dress up your pet and humiliate them at your expense and for our humor!! This is Holly, she owns Kara our club President, and if you haven’t seen Holly in person you’ll never understand why Brian and I laugh so hard when we talk about her. Holly has some issues, she walks with her front legs very stiff so she looks like a Nazi Storm Trooper goose stepping in the back yard. Holly also was attacked as a puppy by a chicken hawk on the farm she was born on. So her little ears are not cropped but chewed off by the chicken hawk. Yes I can hear the Fog Horn Leg Horn jokes already, but don’t you worry I have already gone through them all, just ask Kara!
