We started the day with water which unfortunately then ceased. Thank you to our local council for your help and assistance during this time. A very big thank you to our staff who quickly adapted to the situation and worked diligently to help with the departure of children. It is also a timely reminder to please keep the school up-to-date with any changes to phone numbers, address and family details. This week our teachers have been spending time in their Stage teams planning for Term 4. This allows us to increase consistency across classes and ensure high quality programming for all students. At these meetings teachers also plan rich assessment tasks and find opportunities within the curriculum for all students to be challenged and supported. Part of this process includes analysis of student work samples, which then guides the creation of the next series of lessons to ensure students’ development continues to progress. We call this process ‘knowing our impact’, that is what difference are teachers making to students’ outcomes. Ideally we want one year’s growth for one year’s teaching. To ensure this, teachers continually monitor students’ progress through in- class assessment and then modify their teaching programs accordingly, making sure that students are presented with content that allows them to improve their skills and knowledge. If students are not making the desired progress, our teachers respond quickly because they are constantly monitoring student development, and then they change what they are doing. They go over content again in a different way or they provide a variety of alternate learning activities to build students’ understanding. This way teachers are in a constant cycle of plan, teach, assess, evaluate and plan again, all in an effort to sustain student learning and ensure that for every year of teaching, we have a year’s worth of learning. Yours in education, Glen Kite Principal Assembly – Friday 21 st September Friday 21 st September is a Primary assembly that will start at 11am in our school hall. 3RED will be presenting a class item. TERM 3 WEEK 9 Wednesday 19th September 2018

Mural Presentation On Tuesday Andrew Davis visited MSPS to donate an amazing four-panel artwork. Andrew is a local artist with an interest in social inclusion and respect for all people. He firmly believes that everyone has the capacity to make the world a better place, and they can overcome many obstacles in their lives, to do great things. Andrew has run over 30 projects across the Hunter, Central Coast and Lake Macquarie Districts with a focus on acceptance and overcoming obstacles, like disability, mental illness and social exclusion. This work titled ‘The Journey Home’ was created for the 2015 St Heliers Heavy Horse Field Day, and was exhibited at the event. Students from Muswellbrook South Public School and Challenge Services worked on the painting, depicting horse and cart from earlier Heavy Horse event. Andrew previously donated a second work with Muswellbrook South PS on the theme of community, completed for the school’s World Harmony Day event (2016), for which Andrew was an Ambassador, that year. MSPS would like to thank Andrew for this very generous donation and his ongoing support of our school.
