Our student body is comprised of over 1800 of the best our community has to offer. The quality of our students is reflected in many ways. Participation in our Advanced Placement and Cambridge AICE courses is at the highest level ever. That is following up a year when our performance on several of those exams topped district, state, and national averages. In addition, we have 35 full-time dual enrollment students who are already on their way to earning a college diploma. Beyond those courses we are incredibly proud of our career education opportunities in which students can participate. Our Engineering Academy is the only one of its kind in the United States to be recognized as a Distinguished Program by both the National Academy Foundation and Project Lead the Way. Our Career Education program for ESE students continues to excel and is viewed as the model for Collier County Public Schools. Our Fine Arts classes lead the Superior ratings performances at all levels, and our Advanced Placement Art Show captivates with our skill in the visual arts.The success of our multi-faceted JROTC program is only matched by the number of athletes we have going on to continue at the collegiate level.With all of those success stories, the question then becomes of how to continue to improve. This year Naples High School is approaching the year with a focus on fundamentals. That includes everything from how we plan and prepare for classroom instruction to how we need to provide top-notch customer service.We encourage and challenge our teachers to work together more frequently to not only improve efficiency but to also harness the power of collaboration. Our school counselors have been provided more time to prepare for the school which has yielded better student placement and a smoother start to the year. We are exploring more expansive use of technology in order to increase productivity for our support staff so they may spend more individual time problem-solving with students and families.While we know that we have room for growth, we are excited about the path we are on with our students. continued on next page...

2 Our goal as a learning community is to create successful students. In order to accomplish this we need to maintain high expectations in all things we do. We need to seek continual improvement for not only our students, but for our school. In my experience, this can be achieved through open lines of communication and a willingness to go the extra mile for our students. I look forward to working with all members of our learning community to do just that over the course of this school year.

From the Desk of the Assistant Principal for Curriculum Hi folks! And Happy Fall!
We are well into our school year, quarter one is complete, and we are looking forward to an even more successful quarter two. We’ve completed district pre-tests, FSA retakes, the PSAT, and quarter one benchmarks. As we move on with our year, teachers now have valuable data at their fingertips to help our students be as successful as possible.
Speaking of success, now is the time for seniors to make sure that they are on the right path for graduation. Our school counselors have given whole-group presentations in the auditorium and cafeteria, visited senior classrooms, and have met with individual students with regards to graduation requirements, financial aid, and scholarship information. If there are any concerns or questions, please take the time to reach out to your child’s school counselor to have these questions answered. Before you know it we will be ready for winter break.
Parental involvement doesn’t end when your child gets to high school. Now more than ever, everyone needs to stay informed. One important aspect of parent involvement is to make sure students are keeping up with their assignments and workload. Take the time to ask about the school day, their assignments, their teachers, and their experiences. Communication is key for student success.
As we page through our school/family organization stations, we see that mid-term exams are not far away. Keep an eye out for our mid-term exam schedule, which will take place from December 17 and continue through December 21. One of the changes to the schedule this year is that all of our days during mid-term exams are full school days. We do not have any early release days during mid-terms.
Remember, folks, that you have 24/7 access to your child’s grades. You can log into FOCUS at any time to check the status of assignments and/or grades. Also, if necessary, please update your contact information through the parent portal. Most importantly, don’t forget to take time to enjoy your family and friends over the Thanksgiving break.

Student Relations Naples High is off to a great start this year. The students have seen some new changes to the school and are adapting well. One of those additions is the ID badge. Students are to wear their ID badge at all times while on campus. If students forget their badge, they can come to the office for a temporary sticker, which costs $.50. Additionally, earphones of any sort are prohibited on campus unless being used under the supervision of a teacher in a classroom. Both of these steps are to ensure student safety while on campus. Parents, your constant support and continuous reminders of these policies is greatly appreciated. Thus far, teachers have written more positive referrals in August and September than during that time in previous years. Students continue to demonstrate being prepared, respectful, and on-time throughout the day and it is wonderful that they are being recognized for being PRO. We are continuing Student of the Month, and just recently recognized 17 students. The Renaissance Academic Recognition award winners were recently recognized for their quarter 1 report card grades. In total, 1,135 students received a Renaissance card. We look forward to continuing these programs and seeing the great things our students do on a daily basis both in and out of the classroom.
Please remember that when coming to drop off or pickup students using 22nd Ave., please use the eastern entrance (closest to Goodlette-Frank Rd.) to ensure the safety of all students. This rule applies both before and after school. Please remind students who drive themselves to school to also follow this pattern. Consequences will be issued to students who are driving in the opposite direction and continued disregard for the traffic rules will result in the suspension or loss of a student’s parking pass. Also, please remember that surrounding businesses do tow and trespass individuals from their parking lots if they catch students parking their vehicles without permission.
Greetings from the Counseling Office This is an exciting time of year and we are working with some amazing students that are turning into young adults before our very eyes. Our counselors have been meeting individually with Seniors during the month of October to make sure they are on track with graduation requirements and preparation for college. We have also been meeting individually and in small groups with those students that show signs of academic struggle to help get them back on track. Please, have conversations with your student about his/her academic plan, goal setting and exploring post-secondary options. Collier County Schools utilizes Naviance in grades 6-12 for post-high school and career preparation. If you are not familiar with this tool, have your student log in to his/her Angel account and look for the link under High School Resources. You will find college exploration tools, Learning Style Inventories, Strengths Explorer, Career Interest Profiler, resume building tools and more. SENIORS: College bound Seniors should be finishing up the college application process. Most Florida schools accept applications on a rolling basis so it is easier to get accepted in the fall. Additionally, scholarship monies at the universities go quickly so the earlier the better! Financial Aid priority deadlines are earlier this year so make sure you are checking all institution deadlines.
Counselors have worked with Seniors to complete the FFAA (Bright Futures Application), reviewed scholarship opportunities and how to request transcripts through Naviance. Handouts are available in the counseling office if assistance is still needed and copies of our parent presentations are available on the NHS website.

A Few Reminders for Parents from Mr. Timmy Kutz Transitioning to high school can be very tough for all involved. Students and parents both have to figure out what it’s like either being a high school student or having one in the house. There are two things that I would suggest to make sure freshman year is successful.
Get Involved! Right now Naples High has 38 different clubs available to students. Whether it’s academic, athletic, philanthropic, or social based, there is a club for every student to get involved with. Each club is always looking for members and anyone can join at any time. The full list of clubs is on the school website under the Athletics tab, and attached to each club is the email of the sponsor on campus who can let you know when and where the meeting are.
Get on FOCUS! Freshman year is one of the most important years in high school. This year sets the tone of what the next 4 years will look like. One of the most important parts of that is grades. Parents and students can log into FOCUS any time to check their grades and see what their scores are for individual assignments. If there are any questions, the teachers e-mail is on FOCUS. As a parent, don’t be scared to reach out and check in with the teacher about your student’s grades.
We are all here to help ease the transition into high school, and to help your student along in their journey to achieving their highest potential.
It’s showtime at Naples High! Theatre has made a return to Naples High School and will have its first performances on December 5 and December 6 at 7:00 pm. We invite you to come on a fairy tale journey filled with fun, laughter and the fight of good versus evil. The Love of Three Oranges by Hillary DePiano is based on an Italian tale by Carlos Gozzi and combines aspects of Commedia Dell’arte with twists, turns and jokes made for a modern audience. Our thespian Eagles have begun rehearsals and can’t wait to show their work on the stage. This production is unique, as our first-year theatre students have taken on the challenging task of running every aspect of the performance. The theatre students have also joined forces with the art students to make the world of the play come to life. We hope you and your family will be able to join us on our fun adventure. Tickets will go on sale a week before the show and may also be purchased on the evening of the performances starting at 6:30 pm, adults for $10 and students for $4. Break a leg everyone and see you on the stage!

The ABC also awards grants to teachers for use in their classrooms, for field trips for the students, to defray a portion of the costs associated with attending professional conferences, etc.
