Important Information to Help You Enjoy and Profit from the Annual Convention The National Guild of Hypnotists, Inc. is proud that during the past twenty-five years we have provided publications, seminars, and workshops which appeal to a wide range of professionals. In addition to those members who are the backbone of our own profession, certified hypnotists, our membership now includes licensed health professionals from most of the major disciplines. Many physicians, dentists, chiropractors, osteopaths, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other professionals who have become aware of the efficacy of hypnotism have found that the Guild provides a wonderful resource for them to tap into for more information and continuing education, and we are happy to see that they are becoming regulars at our continuing education events. Therefore, the program that we provide at our annual convention and educational conference has to adequately meet the needs of our profession, but also those with advanced degrees in other fields as well. Each year, as you read through the seminar/workshop titles and descriptions, you will find topics that are more appropriate for use by licensed health professionals or those with advanced degrees. Does this mean that you cannot or should not attend? Absolutely not—because in the future you might be called on to lend your expertise to cases which require the attention of a licensed health professional who does not have your hypnotic knowledge or skill.

The Art, Science, and Philosophy of the Professional Practice of Hypnotism From Dr. Dwight Damon

The Art of Hypnosis: As consulting hypnotists we are concerned with achieving maximum results for

each and every client who comes to us for help with a problem. From the beginning of our education and training we must strive to attain the intellectual and practical knowledge, combined with hands-on experi-ence, that allows us to confidently and competently assess a client's presenting problem with a thorough intake interview that provides us with his or her desired goal. Once thorough information is acquired we must provide the proper induction, programming, and comfortable emergence from hypnosis to achieve optimal results.

The Science of Hypnosis: Since there are many theories of how and why hypnosis occurs, we must

keep abreast of advancements made by researchers, but never lose track of the fact that not everything in life can be explained in the laboratory. The Mind/Body connection and the knowledge that each human body contains a self-contained chemical factory, extensive communication network, impressive mental and physical defenses, and an innate operating system, encourages us to work in harmony with all of these built-in resources as we guide a client into self-hypnosis and feed back positive suggestions derived from our initial interview.

The Philosophy of Hypnosis: First and foremost we must do no harm. The mental and physical well

-being of each client is the prime requisite of every ethical consulting hypnotist. We must always maintain a strictly professional relationship with a client, avoiding any impropriety. Clients who present with obvious medical or psychological problems should be accepted only with a written referral from a licensed health-care professional. Hypnotism and the state of hypnosis are normal and natural to life and must not be presented as mysticism or pseudo-science in any manner. In keeping with our philosophy, our goal must be to use hypnosis to help ordinary, everyday people with ordinary, everyday problems. With our training and ongoing practical expe-rience we are the professionals most suited to serve humanity in this way.

The Nat ional Gui ld of Hypnot is ts Convent ion 2013,

ART, SCIENCE, and PHILOSOPHY o f our profess ion.

“The reward doesn’t necessarily go to the biggest, the brightest, or the best. It goes to the one who has the courage to keep trying until

success is inevitably achieved.”

—Dr. Robyn Silverman

When giraffes are born they have, relatively speaking, long legs and short necks. And while this serves them well in the beginning of their lives, as they mature, they discover that their steadily lengthening necks benefit them in a diversity of ways. As herbivores, their long necks afford them the opportunity to forage leaves and plants out of reach to other animals—an untouched smorgasbord of plant life for feasting. Because their necks are strong and muscled, they are often a giraffe’s best defense for fending off predators. But the single greatest advantage of a long neck for a giraffe is that it can stand tall, with a viewpoint and perspective that other animals miss. The giraffe’s long neck, brought the species to where it is today. By standing tall, looking higher, and stretching to reach its fullest potential, the giraffe survived, evolved, and grew. Would you may be surprised to learn that the giraffe has the same number of vertebrae (seven) in its neck as you do?

...What new heights will you achieve this year by sticking your neck out?

St ick your neck out . Make new f r iends. Become an explorer and an adventurer, as you e levate your perspect ive. Be par t o f the exc i t ing 2013: National Gui ld of Hypnotists Convent ion.

What are you doing to What are you doing to What are you doing to spread the word?spread the word?spread the word?

Think it is too late to get the news out about the 2013 NGH Convention? Nope! Attending a convention in your field is always an excellent opportunity for marketable news. You may not have time to send an announcement to the media before you go to this year’s Convention, but that’s OK. Follow up anytime within the 6 weeks after you attend by writing a simple press release about your attendance at the NGH Convention, some of the courses you took or taught, and how you benefited professionally. Media announcements of this type typically attract a lot of interest, increasing your visibility and that of the NGH. Besides drawing the attention of potential clients and elevating your status with your current clients, announcements to the media

open the door for you to be a future guest interview, subject matter expert, or guest speaker. And if the releases are published online, you get the added benefit of backlinks to your website and enhanced search engine visibility.
