First Reading Ez 2:2-5 As the LORD spoke to me, the spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me: Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have revolted against me to this very day. Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you. But you shall say to them: Thus says the LORD GOD! And whether they heed or resist—for they are a rebellious house— they shall know that a prophet has been among them.

Second Reading 2 Cor 12:7-10 Brothers and sisters: That I, Paul, might not become too elated, because of the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecu-tions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
Gospel Mk6:1-6 Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, “A proph-et is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house.” So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Pensamientos/Reflexiones sobre el Evangelio de esta semana
El evangelio de hoy describe lo que muchos creen que fue el patrón típico del minis-
terio de Jesús: enseñar en la sinagoga seguida de actos de curación. En su ciudad
natal de Nazaret, la gente está asombrada por lo que escuchan, pero tampoco pue-
den comprender cómo alguien que conocen tan bien podría conmoverlos con tanta
fuerza. En este evangelio, aprendemos algunos detalles interesantes sobre Jesús y su
vida temprana. Los parientes de Jesús saben que es carpintero, un artesano que tra-
baja en madera, piedra y metal. Probablemente aprendió este oficio de su padre. Los
miembros de la familia de Jesús también se nombran. Marcos describe a Jesús como

The last registration date for Faith Formation and Confirmation will be Sunday, July 18 from 8:30am to 3:00pm in the Family Center parking lot. All regis-trants must provide their Baptism certificate and all continued registrants must provide their baptism certif-icate and certificate of promotion. Remember that if your child will be in the 6th grade they can register for the first year of Confirmation. Thank you.

Thoughts/Reflections about this week’s Gospel Reading
Today’s Gospel describes what many believe to
have been the typical pattern of Jesus’ ministry:
teaching in the synagogue followed by acts of
healing. In his hometown of Nazareth, the people
are amazed by what they hear, but they also can-
not comprehend how someone they know so well
might move them so powerfully. In this Gospel, we
learn some interesting details about Jesus and his
early life. Jesus’ kinfolk know him to be a carpenter, an artisan who works
in wood, stone, and metal. He probably learned this trade from his father.
Family members of Jesus are also named. Mark describes Jesus as the son
of Mary, which is an unusual designation. Adult males were more typically
identified with the name of their fathers. It is unclear why Mark deviates
from this custom. Brothers and sisters of Jesus are also named. Scholars
are divided on how to interpret this. As Catholics, we believe that Mary
was and remained always a virgin, thus we do not believe that this Gospel
refers to other children of Mary. Some have suggested that these family
members might be Joseph’s children from a previous marriage, but there
is little evidence to support this. Others explain this reference by noting
that the words brother and sister were often used to refer to other types of
relatives, including cousins, nieces, and nephews. This Gospel tells us that
Jesus is hampered from performing miracles in Nazareth because of the
people’s lack of faith. Jesus is said to be surprised by this. He did not pre-
dict or foresee this rejection. In this detail we find a description of the very
human side of Jesus. This passage unfolds a continuing theme of Mark’s
Gospel: Who is Jesus? His kinfolk in Nazareth might know the carpenter,
the son of Mary, but they do not know Jesus, the Son of God. Mark is fore-
shadowing Jesus’ rejection by his own people, the people of Israel. He is
also reflecting on and trying to explain the situation of the community for
which he wrote. While many of the first Christians were Jewish, Christian-
ity took hold and flourished in the Gentile community. Mark’s community
was mostly a Gentile community, who may have been experiencing perse-
cution. By showing that Jesus himself was rejected, Mark consoles and
reassures his first readers. He also prepares us to accept this possible con-
sequence of Christian discipleship.

a un pueblo rebelde, que se ha sublevado contra mí. Ellos y sus padres
me han traicionado hasta el día de hoy. También sus hijos son testaru-
dos y obstinados. A ellos te envío para que les comuniques mis pala-
bras. Y ellos, te escuchen o no, porque son una raza rebelde, sabrán
que hay un profeta en medio de ellos”.

Segunda Lectura 2 Co 12,7-10
Hermanos: Para que yo no me llene de soberbia por la sublimidad de
las revelaciones que he tenido, llevo una espina clavada en mi carne,
un enviado de Satanás, que me abofetea para humillarme. Tres veces
le he pedido al Señor que me libre de esto, pero él me ha respondido:
“Te basta mi gracia, porque mi poder se manifiesta en la debilidad”.
Así pues, de buena gana prefiero gloriarme de mis debilidades, para
que se manifieste en mí el poder de Cristo. Por eso me alegro de las
debilidades, los insultos, las necesidades, las persecuciones y las difi-
cultades que sufro por Cristo, porque cuando soy más débil, soy más
fuerte.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a su tierra en compañía de sus discípulos.
Cuando llegó el sábado, se puso a enseñar en la sinagoga, y la multi-
tud que lo escuchaba se preguntaba con asombro: “¿Dónde aprendió
este hombre tantas cosas? ¿De dónde le viene esa sabiduría y ese po-
