Merit-based aid process

Types of merit-based awards

Newhouse aid is only awarded based on merit. Aid based on need is administered through the University’s Financial Aid Office. They do not have grants or scholarships to offer. They coordinate the federal loan process.

To be considered for federal loans, applicants should file FAFSA forms as soon as possible after January 1 to avoid delays. Both 2014-15 and 2015-16 FAFSAs are required due to our summer start.

Need-based aid process

The Financial Aid Office at SU will notify you regarding your loan eligibility as soon as your information is received.

Typically, students are eligible for $10,250 in Stafford Loan funds for the summer and up to $20,500 for the academic year.

There are also Graduate Plus loans for which there is no maximum loan limit (annually or lifetime). Eligibility is calculated by the Cost of Attendance minus other financial aid and a basic credit check must be passed.
