Hello Gilgandra, Welcome to the first newsletter of 2018. I hope that you all have had a safe holiday. Following on from an outstanding 2017, we aim to continue the forward progression of the school and produce excellent results for our great school. We are a strong and united community, as reflected in the plethora of achievements in 2017. There are a few administrative areas to be covered: Gilgandra High School is an aerosol can free school. Some students have had a severe asthmatic reaction to the fumes, so please do not bring them to school. They will be confiscated. In addition to the merit certificates and written awards, We are now moving into a VIVO online reward system. Here the students receive point towards an item they would like to purchase (e.g. I Phone case). There will be several excursions occurring in the near future. Please ensure payment is prompt and done before the excursion commences. If you need a financial plan to assist your child, please see the Principal or Deputy Principal for assistance Please also welcome new staff members to the school. They are Anthony Bougatsas, Andrew McCutcheon, Nicola Murphy, Kristy Smith, Gillian Oak, Vanessa Drady, Warren Frazer and Robyn Walsh. We also welcome back Mr Wilson and Mrs Foran. Mr Wilson will be the Careers Advisor for Term 1 in Ms Ford’s absence. Mr and Mrs Reed have welcomed their second child, Dorothy, into the world, a sister for Elizabeth. We congratulate the Reed family on their new arrival and wish them well for the near future. For a short period, I will be relieving Principal and Ms West will be the relieving Deputy. On Tuesday 13 February Gilgandra High School hosted a visit from Vince and Nancy Cosgrove (representatives of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association of Australia). This is an annual visit, which sees them presenting a lesson to Year 10 students on the history of the Vietnam War. Students participated hands on by having the opportunity to wear uniforms and handle weapons. They also took part in different scenarios, such as the ballot process, which was used to select conscripts. As an added extra this year, the Prime News team were in attendance and interviewed both students and staff.
