QAS LIFE MEMBER AWARDED QAS LIFE MEMBER AWARDED

OONE of QAS’ Life Members, Phillip Greinke, Phillip Greinke, has

been awarded a special Community Award. Not only has Phillip been recognised for his service to art but also for his work in the community. He received the award from Hon. John Barilaro John Barilaro Dept. Premier NSW.

QAS LIFE DRAWING QAS LIFE DRAWING

LLIFE drawing has been and contin-

ues to be an important practice for many artists, both established and new. Members who are looking to improve their observational and drawing skills may wish to consider joining one of the two weekly life drawing sessions offered by Quean-beyan Art Society. The two hour sessions are held in a relaxed and friendly environment on Monday afternoons from 2-4 PM and Thurs-day evenings from 7-9 PM. Run in blocks over an eight week period aligned to the NSW School Terms, life drawing includes two tutored sessions to help develop and im-prove your drawing skills. The cost for eight weeks is $140 paid in ad-vance or $15 for individual non-tutored sessions and $30 for tu-tored sessions (total cost $150 for the term). This cost includes gallery hire, model fees, light refreshments and tutor fees (when applicable). Boards and a limited number of easels are available; members are expected to supply their own draw-ing materials and paper. Despite its significant history, life drawing ses-sions are open to anyone regardless of skill; you don’t need to be a Da Vinci. The current Life Drawing term is soon to close for 2017 however if you are interested in joining us during 2018 then please register your interest with the Coordinator, George George AchesonAcheson--Thom Thom by email: [email protected] or phone: 0434 903 236. The first term in 2018 will run from mid-February to late-March but please don’t leave it until then to register your interest as places are limited.

THINK ABOUT SPONSORING? THINK ABOUT SPONSORING?

MMEMBERS are pleased with the monthly Art Competition/Exhibition, the committee is

pleased with the members’ support - on average 120 works each month and 17 awards. To compare this with a large Art Centre offering $3,000 plus in a major prize once a year and not getting 50 works entered proves we must be on the right track. QAS does not have a

large sponsorship base and we have to manage the running of the Gallery and the committee must tread lightly. If we can increase our sponsorship we can enlarge awards for our members and keep the house (gallery) in order. Jenny Jenny and Richard Lawson Richard Lawson are the Society’s most recent sponsors, donating to the 10th QAS Charity Art Show. Please think about being a QAS sponsor, no matter how Please think about being a QAS sponsor, no matter how small!small!

WWHAT a great year the Society has had and it has been a delight to be part of

a committee that shouldered the wheel for our members and Friends of the Society. If members go to page 6 they will see the 2018 Calendar of Events. It is so pleasing to have such program for the year and the QAS MAP are on page 4. It was sad to hear the passing of Val Fitzpatrick Val Fitzpatrick -- she was well respected in our art world. It was pleasing to see that QAS Life Member Phillip Grenike Phillip Grenike was recognised for his work as a community worker. Phillip was instrumental in keeping QAS ‘alive’ when it went through a bad patch with the help of wife Jill. This year is our 50th Anniversary and thank you to our ‘silent’ donation of the Members’ Monthly $50 Jackpot. We thank you ‘Mrs Big M’‘Mrs Big M’. Again what a wonderful Christmas Party and many thanks to all the effort that went into it, too many to mention. I believe that our newly sponsored December Art Competition/Exhibition will develop in one of the society’s keenest for our artists. Not many winners Not many winners will ever receive such exposure than on the Canberra Milk Canberra Milk bottle.
