Dear Parents and Caregivers We had our first on site meeting in preparation for the Jiddles block rebuild last week and things are looking well on track for a start at the beginning of the holidays. It is anticipated this process will take until mid to late November to complete so we may get to use the new block before the end of the current year (fingers crossed). As a consequence of our building project there will be some changes and temporary disruptions but as much as possible we have managed to keep access to areas around the school open which is great for student traffic flow. Our library will become a learning space during the building process and the books will all be packed up and boxed to be relocated elsewhere. It is anticipated teachers will be able to gather up class sets of books and change these as required however “normal” library sessions will be on hold. Our fencing project will also begin at the same time with the contractor beginning with the front of the school over the holiday break. They will then move around the entire perimeter of the school before joining up with the front on completion. Again we do not anticipate a high degree of disruption but we will ensure student security at all times. We have been suffering a little vandalism of late which is highly unusual for us. Our coat hooks are becoming the target for those wanting to snap them off which is pretty frustrating. Standard practice in this school is that once the culprits are caught the Board will bill those on a pro-rata basis. I am hoping it is not our own students however if it is we will naturally hold them accountable and I have no doubt they will learn a very valuable life lesson. Staff are busy looking at the way we integrate learning across a variety of curriculum areas and this is proving to be a very worthwhile and exciting process. Our aim is to seek new ways to extend our ‘real life focus” to learning and thus build on learner agency for our students. In every day terms this is about students knowing what they are learning, why they need to know it, where they are up to where to next and of course how they will get there. Over the coming terms we will continue to grow and expand this concept and I can tell you students are in for some very exciting and challenging topics. Have a fantastic week Yours in teaching Craig Haggo Principal
