Dear Parents and Caregivers Welcome back to Term Three. I hope you had a little time to relax with your children over the break although I know for many in the dairy industry this is a very busy time for you. A special “gidday” to all those joining us at Pongakawa for the first time today and I feel sure you and your children will settle in quickly and make lots of new friends as it is that sort of place. The weather last week was pretty average however I am sure the kids were able to have fun none the less. You will see when you come up to school that the large oak tree near the memorial gates has now been removed and this happened during the second week of the holidays. Craig Garrett managed this process for us and did an outstanding job in making sure it was removed in a way sensitive to the things around it meaning there was no damage. The tree once cut did have some very significant areas of rot and some limbs had very little “meat” left in them meaning the risk really was significant. Thanks heaps Craig for all the hours you have spent on this very tricky and somewhat sad process, it is very much appreciated. Don’t forget it is parent interviews next week so if you have not done so already and wish to meet your child’s teacher go on line and pick a time slot. The alternative is to contact the office and we can take care of this for you. I would encour-age parents to take advantage of this meeting opportunity it is a great way to catch up on goals set previously and discuss any changes that may need to occur over the re-mainder of the year. A reminder also about bus travel. It is very important you let the office know if you are picking up your children meaning they will not be using the bus on a particular day. This is because our service links with a number of other buses criss-crossing the Te Puke region and children move from bus to bus at particular times. If one of our buses is late this can throw the entire schedule which is never a good thing with tired children. If the office is not notified then we must check to see where the child is thus holding up the buses. We appreciate your help with this – many thanks.

Yours in teaching Craig Haggo Principal
