Reading to get a boost from Year 6!
Some of the
Year 6
Children
enjoying a
good read in
the library.
Our Year 6 children have been taking their responsibilities as the oldest chil-dren in school very seriously. They are considering ways to boost the enjoy-ment of reading in our school and encourage children to read more.
They were quite surprised to learn from Mrs Bailey that 43% of children will read a book recommended by another child, but only 10% would read a book recommended by an adult.
Emily-Jade Barlow said, “We think that getting children to read more will de-velop their English skills”.
Harry Evans explained, “We are doing all kinds of things next ½ trem, includ-ing; stories, powerpoint presentations, posters, a newspaper and leading as-semblies.”
Ryan Shire was particularly keen on the last idea. “Usually teachers make the assemblies. Ours will be better, because we know what the kids want,” he en-thused.
They are launching their campaign with an ‘extreme reading challenge’ in which the children are being asked to have their photograph taken in the most unusual place whilst reading a book. (A letter was sent out about this earlier this week).
Well done to the Year 6 children and we look forward to seeing the results of their efforts.
Please remember when parking your car at
the beginning and end of the school day to
park legally and consider the safety of other
road users and pedestrians. We have been
asked to point out to parents that they
should not park partially on pavements, or
on double yellow lines. There does tend to
be parking available a short walk from
school, especially around the shops and
businesses on Christleton Road.
Sponsored walk raises over £1700!
Thank you to everyone who supported
the sponsored walk. The money will be
used to buy furniture for around the out-
side of the school in memory of John
Route. Special thanks to Julie Bladen
and Joy Jencitis for organising this event
in tribute to our friend.
Thank you for the harvest!
Our harvest festival celebrations were held on 11 October,
and proved to be a big success. The children performed
singing, poetry and said prayers, and made all the watching
parents very proud. Thank you to all the parents who were
able to attend. It was lovely that you could share the ser-
vice with the children, and it made a big difference to the
children that you were there. The collection of food was
taken this week to ‘Save the Family’ Harvest collection with Mrs Rees’s scarecrow, ‘John’.

Following previous successful shoe-box appeals, we will once again be participating in the world's largest chil-dren's Christmas charity project.
Please see the information leaflet that all pupils will be bringing home with this newsletter.
Year 3 & 4 visited the
Grosvenor Museum to
find out about life in
Chester 2000 years
ago.
Thanks to the teachers
for organising the trip
and showing the chil-
dren the resources
right on their door-
step!
