Walking on the cobbled streets of Las CasasBy John Alexander Sy

A voyage through the legacy houses gives a look at the lifestyle of the Filipinos amid the Spanish time, from 1521 to 1898, when the Philippines was ruled by the said conquestor. Strolling on cobbled avenues in the midst of lines of 27 century-old Spanish heritage houses at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar resort in Bagac, Bataan can be both ghostly and exciting. With that, you may get to experience staying at wooden houses, adorned immaculately and likened with riches by their former wealthy residents.

Mr. Jose “Gerry” Acuzar, owner if the resort, started to collect spanish mansions in 2003, seven years later the heritage park was opened to public.

Each of the said properties originated from various eras and places of the Philippines. Some houses were exchanged stone by stone from their unique areas of the property while others were just replicated.

He started rebuilding the Spanish mansions in Bagac, 2003. He aims to collect more than 50 historical residences from different locations, to build the first open-air museum of houses beside the sea. This is not just for him to feel luxurious at his place but also for him to preserve the amazing memories and stories which once filled each house of Las Casas Filipinas.

One of the highlighted houses at the resort is the Casa Binondo 3, once situated before in San Nicolas, Binondo. In some of the rooms in the first three-storeys of th said house, lucky guests will receive extra elbow room and golden ceilings. The once abandoned Casa was bought by Mr.

Azucar to preserve the beauty from the turtle-like destruction by the informals settiling in the place.

Las Casas is a tranquil place with a few families checked in making the place eerie at night. Putting that aside however, you could still enjoy its amenities and afford delicious Filipino dishes, including some which have been fused with European cuisine. Although there are ongoing constructions and improvement on the resort.

The resort, suitably located beside the sea, has a restaurant, swimming pool and areas where you can enjoy water activities like island hopping and riding on banana boats. We recommend booking your stay there on a Thursday or Friday because it’s rates are cheaper than during Sunday to Wednesday. Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar will let you feel both the historic Spanish and modern Philippine atmospheres, making it the best place to stay in Bataan.
