INTRODUCTION

Working ABXY buttons are important elements needed to ensure smooth gameplay for any gamingsystem. For the Wii U Pro Controller, debris and residue is likely to build up underneath the buttons,which can slow down the responsiveness of the buttons and even cause them to stick. In this guide,one will learn how to break down the controller in order to access the underside of the buttons,where cleaning will take place to restore the buttons back to their original functionality. In order to getto this point, it is recommended that you take a look at the two previous guides regarding thecontroller’s battery replacement and joystick replacement.

Step 1 — Battery

Turn the controller over to reveal thebattery cover.

Use the J000 screwdriver to removethe screw that secures the batterycover.

Step 2

Remove the battery from the controller by inserting the plastic spudger into the small gap on thebottom right of the battery.

Use the spudger as a lever to pry up and remove the battery from the compartment.




Step 3 — Joystick

Remove the eight 5.5 mm Y0screws.

Step 4

Now that you have removed all ofthe screws, separate and removethe bottom half of the controllersshell from the top half.




Step 5

To make the joystick replacementeasier, move the right trigger andsensor (Indicated by the red arrow inthe picture on the left) out of theway.

Remove the 4 mm J0 screw.




Step 6

For the other joystick, the sameprocess as step 6 is used. Move theleft trigger and sensor (Indicated bythe red arrow in the picture on theleft) out of the way.

Remove the 4 mm J0 screw.

Step 7

Remove the joysticks from thecontroller’s shell as shown in thepicture.




Step 8

Remove the joysticks from the circuitboard by carefully pull the rubberthumbsticks off of the electronicbearings. (Bearings are indicated inpicture on the left by the starts of thered arrows) With the old joysticksremoved, the controller is now readyfor new replacements.

Step 9 — ABXY Buttons

Now that the joysticks are removed, locate the screws on the left and right side of the controller(highlighted in the photos) and use the J0 bit to remove these 4 mm screws. This will allow you topull out the controller board




Step 10

Once these two screws have been removed, you may go ahead and remove the board from thecontroller housing. Now, direct your attention to the front panel of the controller. Remove thebuttons and wipe them down completely with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Set them aside to dry forseveral minutes.




Step 11

Remove the rubber covers (circled in the photo) from the ABXY sensors from the control boardthat was removed from the housing.

Step 12

Wipe down the rubber cover padcompletely with rubbing alcohol anda q-tip. Use compressed air to cleanoff the contact sensors (highlightedby the red circle).




To reassemble your device, carefully follow these instructions in reverse order.
