Transforming ChiCago
Chicago’s highest performing open enrollment high schools
The foundaTion of nobleFor more than a decade, Noble has delivered an
outstanding public education to low-income high school
students in Chicago. Noble’s founders – Michael and
Tonya Milkie – were former Chicago public high school
teachers who believed their students could reach higher
levels of academic achievement and discipline, and
they committed themselves to creating a better kind
of school. Noble is founded on a model with many
of the principles that have been successful in private
enterprise:
• Noble leaders have the freedom to differentiate compensation and recognize teachers for student
achievement.
• Noble’s data-driven culture is supported by
a sophisticated dashboard that provides daily
performance data to Noble staff and parents.
• Noble shares best practices across the network
which has resulted in improved academic
performance as Noble has expanded.
Noble is closing the academic gap for its students, most
of whom enter ninth grade performing below grade level.
Longer class periods, a longer school day, and a longer
school year result in 10.6 more months of instructional time over a traditional Chicago public school throughout
a student’s high school career. Noble has a relentless focus on student success, knowing a high-quality
education will transform the lives and communities of
Noble students for generations to come. FY 2007 FY 2008 FY 2009 FY 2010 FY 2011
