    Introduction

    InOctober andNovember 2007my girlfriendAniek deGraaf and I independently visited northern and central

    Pakistan (seemap).WhyvisitPakistan??Well,whynot!An importantreasonforuswastovisitourfriends,who

    workinIslamabad.ButitwasalsoanopportunitytoseethislittlevisitedcountrywithmanywesternHimalayaand

    IndusPlain

    bird

    specialties.

    InthisreportIdliketoshowthatPakistanisdefinitelyunderestimatedandvisitingthiscountrythesedaysisnotas

    difficultordangerousasonemightthink.Travel iseasyandPakistaniareoneofthemosthospitable,helpfuland

    friendlypeopleintheworld.Nevertheless,donttakeitlightheartedly.Someareasareoff limits(tribalareas)and

    extraattentionisrequiredforsomepartsofNorthwestFrontierProvince(NWFP),BaluchistanandSindh.Recently

    bombingshavetakenplaceinlargecitiesincludingIslamabad,RawalpindiandLahore.Alwaysinformyourselfabout

    the latestsecuritysituationatyourcountrysForeignMinistry(site)andEmbassyandcheckwithlocals(e.g.hotel

    staff,who aremostly good and reliable sources).Takenormalprecautions andbe attentiveas youdoon trips

    abroadandyoullhaveafantasticexperience.

    Flight

    Thecheapestoptionwasa flightwithGulfAir fromAmsterdam toLondon (operatedbyKLM)and fromthereto

    MuscatandontoIslamabad(c620).Althoughwehad3hoursinLondonthiswastooshortfortransportingour

    luggagetotherightplane,soinIslamabadunfortunatelyourluggageturnedoutbestillinLondon.Aftertwodays

    ourluggagearrivedatthenextflightandwithouttomuchhassleswecouldpickitup.

    Visa

    Avisa(47)isnecessaryformostvisitors.Avisawillonlybeissuedifyoushowacopyofyourreturnticket.Thevisa

    isvalid

    for

    most

    parts

    of

    the

    country,

    but

    the

    tribal

    areas

    and

    (sensitive)

    border

    areas

    are

    excluded

    for

    obvious

    reasons.Chitral(inNWFP)issituatedinasensitivezoneclosetotheAfghanborder,soweneededtoregisterwith

    localSuperintendentofPolice.TheTemporaryRegistrationFormwas issuedeasilyandfreeofchargeatthevery

    friendlyForeignersRegistrationatthepolicestationofChitral.

    Alongtheroadsinthenorthyouencountermanyarmyorpolicecheckpointswhereyouneedtoregister.Atthese

    pointsthepoliceorarmyisveryfriendlytotourists(oftenofferingteaonremotespots)andregistrationnevergave

    anyproblem(theyallwantedtolookthroughyourbins,butjustfortheirinterest).

    Accommodation

    Accommodationiswidelyavailableinallkindofranges.InIslamabadwehadtheadvantagetostaywithfriends.In

    Shigarwestayed intheexpensive,butveryscenicShigarFortResidence(www.shigarfort.com). Inthemountains

    accommodationwas very basic. InKarimabad,Gilgit andChitral theres somemore choice. InCentralPakistan,

    especiallyin

    large

    cities,

    all

    ranges

    of

    accommodation

    are

    widely

    available.

    We

    mostly

    chose

    mid

    range

    hotels

    whicharequitecheapinPakistan.

    Transport

    Allformsoftransportareavailable.WetookaflightintothenorthfromIslamabadtoSkarduandbackfromChitral

    toIslamabad(withPIAc50eachwayperperson)asitsavedlotsoftimeandtheroutefromChitraltoIslamabad

    wasnotverysafeatthattime.TheflightfromIslamabadtoSkarduwithPIAinashortenedBoeing737isconsidered

    oneofthemostspectacularflights.Asnoradarisused,onlyatcleardaystheplanewillgo,regardlesstheschedule.

    TheroutegoesstraighttowardsthehugeandhighNangaParbat(8125m;flyingatthesamelevelasthesummit!)

    andquicklydescendsbetweenthehighmountainsinthe(desert)Skarduvalley.Onedisadvantageofflyingisthat

    youhavetorereconfirmyourflightpersonallyattheofficeofPIA(Godknowswhy).

    Busescoverthemainroutesinthecountry.However,inthemountainsbusesarenotsofrequent.Beingabirder,

    rentingacaror4x4jeep isagood(thoughnotcheap)optionasyoucantakedifferentroutesandstopwherever

    youlike.Theroadsarenotalwaysingoodconditionduetolandslidesandmanyroads(exceptfortheKKH)arenot

    paved. Furthermore, some roads are along steep cliff and ravines, so some travel in the north is not for the

    fainthearted!InBaltit(Skardu)werentedaToyotaLandcruiserwithdriverforthreedaystocoverthetrackShigar

    DeosaiPlainsGilgitGojal KhunjerabPassKarimabadfor200($300)atthehotel.InSkarduyoumaybeable

    togetabetterdeal.InKarimabadwenegotiateda4x4Jeepfor5daystoandaroundChitralatHiddenValleyTours

    for200,includingadriverandaguide(thelatterlikedtojoinusbecauseheexpectedustobehislastcustomers

    before thewinterandhewanted tovisit some friends inChitral).Using the serviceofaguidemade things lots

    easier(e.g.languageandrereconfirmingtheflightticketinGilgit)andtheguideisrecommended.

    IncentralPakistanweusedbuses(mostlyofthereliableDaewooCompany).InMultanwerentedattaxiandguide

    toUchCharif and PanjnadHead. In cities taxis (passenger Suzukis), local busses and autorickshaws arewidely

    available.

    Ifyoudont liketoorganizetransportyourself,therearesomereliabletouroperators inthecountry (seeLonely

    Planet).HunzaGuidesPakistan isone them (mostlyofferingmountainexpeditions)and theyoffer very reliable

    transportaswellastailormadetours.

    Unfortunately,theexcellenttwovolume TheBirdsofPakistanbyT.J.Roberts ishardtogetandevenharderto

    carry,butitistheonlygoodhandbook.

    There isvery little informationaboutbirding inPakistan.Pakistans shortchapter inNigelWheatleys Where to

    watchbirdsinAsia(Helm,1996)isstillveryuseful,althoughPalasValleyforexampleseemstobeofflimitsnow.At

    the moment, only Birdquest leads birdtrips to Pakistan. It has a very good trip report from the 2005 tour

    Visitedsites

    ISLAMABADAREA

    Theareaaroundthecapitalisverygoodforbirding.Thecityitselfisverygreenwithlotsoftreeseverywhereandit

    hasbroad tree fringed lanes. In and around the gardenofmy friendshouse (which is closely situatednear the

    Margallahills) Iobserved,amongstothers,Hoopoe,GreyTreepie,WhitethroatedFantail,HumesWarbler,Grey

    hoodedwarbler,

    Indian

    Robin,

    Jungle

    Babbler,

    Long

    tailed

    Shrike

    and,

    surprisingly,

    aBrown

    Rock

    Chat.

    There

    are

    twomain birding spots:MargallaHills andRawal Lake.Both are easily accessible (by taxi and foot).Nathiagali

    involvesadaytripfromthecapital.

    MargallaHillsTheMargallaHillsarejustsituatednorthofthetown.Thehillsreachaheightof1600mandformthebeginningof

    theHimalayaRange.Thehillsare coveredwithbushesand lowdeciduous forest.Goodwalking trails cover the

    wholearea(checkhttp://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php?Number=336693foraGoogleearth/mapskmz

    fileofallthetrails),althoughsomearenotsowellmaintained(Ifeltafewmetersinaravinewhenwalkingalone

    highup inanovergrownpartofa trail from the ridge towards themosque; fortunately Iwasnt thathurt).We

    visitedtheareaafewtimesasitwascloselysituatednearourfriendshouse,especiallytrail2toDamaneKoh.One

    ofPakistanspecialities,WhitecheekedTit,hasapopulationintheMargallaHills.Iobservedthespeciestwice,both

    timeshigherupinthehills:attheridgetrail(2)andnearPirsohawa(3).Alongthewesternridgetrailnicesurprises

    were a femaleMeadow Bunting and a (skulking)maleWhitebelliedRedstart.Also, two Striated Priniaswere

    observed. (Fairly) commonbirdsherewereBluethroatedBarbet, LongtailedMinivet,HimalayanBulbul,Rufous

    Treepie, Bartailed Treecreeper, Spotwinged Tit, Oriental Whiteeye, Humes Warbler, Greyhooded Warbler,

    RustycheekedScimitarBabblerandJungleBabbler.Later, further intothemountainsnearPiroshowa,wetooka

    blocked,deadendroadfollowedbyapatheastwardswhichyieldedUltramarineFlycatcher(3)andHimalayanRed

    flankedBluetail(3).Iobservedtwomalesofthelatteralsoattrail2inasmallgorgecoveredwithdensebushes.

    RawalLakeRawal Lake is situatedon theeastern sideof the cityand caneasilybe reachedby taxi.On thenorth side it is

    accessiblethroughthenewLakeViewParkwhichisverybusyinweekends,butstillitisgoodtoexplorethetrees,

    bushes, reeds and lake. Especially the eastern side of the park is relatively quiet (and under construction).

    Unfortunately, IonlyvisitedRawalLakeonce (LakeViewParkonFriday2ndof Nov),butstill Imanaged tosee

    somenicespecies,amongstothersWhitebreastedWaterhen,Wryneck(1),OrientalTurtleDove(2meena),Shikra,

    CoppersmithBarbet(2),BluethroatedBarbet(5),LongtailedShrike,LongtailedMinivet(4males),Bluewhistling

    Thrush (2), Grey Bushchat (male and female), Bartailed Treecreeper (3), Lemonrumped Warbler (1), White

    browedWagtail(2).

    NathiagaliThis nicely situated hill resort is situated some three hours driving north of Islamabad in southernmostNWFP.

    Nathiagali lies ina lowerpartattheendoftheHimalayaRangeat252600mand ispartofaremainingrelatively

    large forestedarea. It canbe reachedbybus fromAbottabadorRawalpindi (change inMurree),but it ismore

    convenienttotakeataxiorrentacar.Wewere fortunatetojoinour friendswiththeirowncaronEidDay.We

    walkedalongaforestpathjustatthenorthsideoftheridge.ThesurroundingsofMurreeandespeciallyAyubiaNP

    willprobablyharbourthesamespecies, ifnotmore.AlongtheroadjustwestofAyubiathere ismagnificentpine

    and fir forest and here some goodies can be seen from the road. We observed Himalayan Woodpecker,

    CoppersmithBarbet,Rufous Treepie, Large billedCrow (very common),Raven,WhitecheekedNuthatch, Spot

    wingedTitandGreenbackedTit.AlongtheforestedridgewesawBrownfrontedWoodpecker(male),Himalayan

    Woodpecker (2), Scalybellied Woodpecker (3), Whiteeyed Buzzard, Yellowbilled Blue Magpie (20), White

    cheekedNuthatch(15),BartailedTreecreeper(4),SpotwingedTit(>50),RufousnapedTit(3).

    NORTHERNAREAS

    TheNorthern Areas, part of Kashmir, is Pakistansmost northern district. It offers, besides stunningmountain

    scenery,somegreatandoftenrestrictedbirdspecies,duetoitsfavorableposition.Valleyswithoriginalvegetation

    (forestandbushes)aregoodforbirding.Highaltitudespeciesare,likealways,hardtofind.

    Shigar

    ShigarisbeautifullysituatedintheShigarValleynearSkarduinBaltistan,NorthernAreasat2400m.Thefertileland

    borderingtherivercontrastswiththedrysurrounding landandmountains.InOctoberthebirdlifeisnotveryrich

    here,buttherearestillsomenicespeciespresent.Webirdedthefertileland,thetreefilledvillageandthegarden

    oftheFort.ThegardenheldamaleTickellsThrush,BlueWhistlingThrush(2singingmales),Nightjar(1),Mountain

    Chiffchaff(2),HumesWarbler(2),StreakedLaughingthrush(10)and4canicepsGoldfinches.AlpineChough(>2),

    Chough(200),

    Craig

    Martin

    Booted

    Eagle

    flew

    overhead.

    Next

    day

    we

    birded

    the

    path

    along

    the

    Bauma

    Lungma (river) intothemountains. InsomedenseHippophaebushesalongthe river (at2430m) Idiscoveredmy

    first(amaleandafemale)WhitebrowedTitWarblers,firstskulkingbutfinallywithsuperbviews,togetherwitha

    BrownAccentor.FurthermorewesawBrownDipper(1),personataWhiteWagtail(male),RedthroatedFlycatcher

    (2),WhitecappedWaterRedstart (1),BlueWhistlingThrush (4),HumesWarbler (2),Chiffchaffspec (2).Magpie

    andGreatTitwerecommoninthevillage.

    SatparaValleyTheunpavedtrack fromSkardu (2290m)towardsthehighaltitudeplateauofDeosai (>4000m) follows thesteep

    SatparaValley.Thelandscapeisverydry.Therearesomebushesalongtheriverwherethereisnograzing.Onsome

    partsoftheslopeshigherupgrowjunipers.At3100m(N359'29.48"E7536'33.16")atthebestHippophaebush

    along thewhole track,we observed a flock of 6males Whitewinged Redstarts togetherwith 4 (2males+ 2

    females) Whitebrowed Tit Warblers, 4 Redfronted Serins and a Brown Accentor. A little further, 4 RobinAccentors and amaleBluecappedRedstart couldbewellobserved in somejuniperus.At3800maDipperwas

    present.

    DeosaiNationalParkDeosaiNPcomprisesanimmense(3630sqkm),grassy,highaltitudeplateauwhichisnowherelowerthan4000m.

    TheparkisarefugefortherareHimalayanBrownBear.Deosaiplainissnowboundforabout8monthsayear.Asa

    result, bird life is very poor. Shore Lark is common in the summer, but already almost absent inOctober.We

    observedonlytwobirds.Besidethelarks,onlyaDipper,threemigratingHeuglinsGulls(at4200matSheosarLake)

    andafemaleDesertWheatearat4180mareworthmentioning(buttheviewswerefantastic).

    AstorValleyFromthe4266mhighSheosarPasswelefttheDeosaiplainandenteredasidevalleyoftheroughandremoteAstor

    Valley.FromtheSheosarpassyouhavestunningviewsoftheNangaParbat(8125m).TheupperAstorvalleyisquite

    gentilesloping,but it isgettingsteeperandsteepertowards the Indusvalleyand theKarakoramHighway (KKH).

    Therearesomeforestfragmentswhichcanbequitegoodforbirds(e.g.aroundAstor,butwedidntvisitthem).In

    theuppervalleywepassedsomepartswithjunipersandrocks(343600m)withatleast8RobinAccentorsand15

    RockBuntingsintotal.InthePineJuniperzoneIobservedaniceLargerspottedNutcracker(multipunctata,whichisevenwhiterthanontheplates),aflockof20PlainMountainFinches,RockBunting(5),LargebilledCrow(20)and

    AlpineChough (10). In villages Streaked Laughingthrush,BlueWhistlingthrush,GreatTit, LargebilledCrow and

    Magpiewerepresent. In the lowerAstorValley (Astorvillage toKKH)aHimalayanAccentor,30CragMartins,a

    StreakedLaughingthrushandamalepersonataWhiteWagtailwereobserved.

    KarakoramHighway&KhunjerabPassThefamousandspectacularKarakoramHighwaystretchesformorethan800km inPakistanfromHaveliantothe

    KhunjerabPassontheborderwithChinaatamindblowing4934m.Thepassisclosedinwinterfrom31Octoberto

    1May(butcheck),so,onthethe20thwewerejustintime.TheroaditselffollowstheIndusandtheHunzaValley,

    whichcross theveryhighandsteepKarakoramRange.Famousmountainsdirectlybordering theKKHareNanga

    Parbat(8125m,7kilometershigherthantheroad)andRakaposhi(7790m,still5500metershigherthantheroad).

    Thevalleybottom is fertilewitharable land,poplars, fruit treesandbushes.Higherup,onlyHippophaebushes

    borderthe

    river

    and

    streams

    and

    junipers

    on

    some

    the

    slopes.

    Nevertheless

    most

    of

    the

    immense

    landscape

    consistsofbarerocksandhigherupalsosomehugeglaciersandsnow.Asaresultinthisharshlandscapebirdlife

    isntabundant.Nevertheless,somegoodspeciescanbeseen.

    BetweenGilgitandHunza (betweenSultanabadand Jutal, ingentlesloping rocky terrainon theeastsideof the

    road)weobservedatleasttwoHumesWheatearsandaWallcreeper.AsitgetshigherfromGulmitonwards,other

    species appear. BetweenGulmit andGojalwe saw a BrownAccentor, two ScalybelliedWoodpeckers, a high

    Hoopoe, a LittleOwl (in rocky,uninhabited terrain) andat least15WhitewingedRedstarts (mostly twomales

    together,onceaflockoffourfemales)inHippophaebushesalongtheroad.

    Thelastpartoftheroad,fromSusttoKhunjerabPassthroughKhunjerabNationalPark,crossesverysteepgorges

    andsteep,barren,rockyandsnowcoveredslopes. Icheckedtheslopes frequently forHimalayanSnowcock,but

    this isdefinitelytheworsttimeto findthespeciesastheyareattheirhighestup intothemountain (justbefore

    winter)andtheydontcall,sonobirdwasseenatallduringthetrip.(Willow)Forestisonlypresentinsomeparts

    alongthe

    river,

    for

    example

    at

    the

    checkpoint

    of

    Dhee,

    were

    we

    saw

    aChaffinch

    (which

    is

    agood

    species

    here!),

    togetherwith twoRedfrontedSerins (which Ipersonallyprefer...).Thehighlightwasmy findof fresh tracksof

    SnowLeopardalongtheroadinamuddypartoftheriveratc3700m!Unfortunatelywedidnotfindthismythical

    animal.Further,weobservedafewBrownAccentors,aGoldenEagle,afineHimalayanGriffonandtwoflocks(3

    andc30)ofwinterplumagedBrandtsMountainFinches.Atthepass inthecoldplateauat4934monlytwoRosy

    PipitsandasoaringLammergeierwerepresent.NearthepassagroupofHimalayanIbexforagedalongtheroad.

    OnthewaybackwestayedsomedaysintheHunzaValley.ThisfertilevalleyalongtheKKH isbeautifullysituated

    andthereforeitisoneofthemosttouristicplacesinNorthPakistan allinperspective,ofcourse.Especiallyatthis

    timeoftheyearthescenerywasfantasticsincealltreeswereredandyellow.However,fromabirderpointofview

    thistimeoftheyear isrelativelypoorwithonly the fewresidentspecies (CarrionCrow,AlpineChough,Chough,

    Magpie,GreatTit,BlueWhistlingThrush,StreakedLaughingthrush,canicepsGoldfinchandRockBunting)present

    whichyoufindinmostvalleyshereatthisaltitude(cfShigar,Skardu,Astoretc.).Further,thepathtoUltarMeadow

    through a steep gorgewithHippophae and other bushes along the stream yielded aWhitecappedWater

    Redstart,afinemaleBluecappedRedstart,aHumesWarblerandthreeTreePipits.Unfortunatelyafteranhour

    walkingthepathwasblockedduetoalandslide.

    Ghizar&LaspurValleyBothrivervalleyslieenroutefromGilgittoChitral.TheyareseparatedbytheShandurPassat3810m,whichisonlyoneofthetwogatewaystoChitral. Inthe lowerpartsyoucrossvillagesandagricultural land.Higherupthere is

    typicalmountain landscapewithverydry slopeswith somebushesand still someagricultural activity.The river

    valleyisborderedbybushesandtrees.Thehighplateauandrivervalleyatandnearthepassiscoveredwithmoist

    androckygrassland.HighlightswereamalePlumbeousWaterRedstart,2White cappedWaterRedstarts,twoWall

    Creepers,aBlueRockThrushandaLongtailedShrike.Higherup(fromc3000m)WhitewingedRedstartsappeared

    again.Wesawatleast18birdsinsmall(27)flocksinbushesandontherocksinthemeadowsnearthepass.Three

    HumesLarkswerepresentonthepassinaflockof50Shorelarks.Furthermore,flocksofShoreLark(>100),Red

    frontedSerin(2inwillowsandrosesatasmallstreamat3450m),BrownAccentor(4),PlainMountainFinch(2)and

    Twite(>50),RockBunting(>50)wereobservedduringthetrip.

    CHITRAL

    TheChitralDistrict, situated inPakistansnorthwestcorner in theHinduKushmountain rangealong theAfghan

    border,isremoteandisolated.Itisonlyaccessiblebyairorbytwohighmountainpasses.In2007only1000tourists

    (33Dutch), includingexpatsanddiplomats,made ituphere(wewere1009and1010).Becauseof itsremoteness

    development is relatively slow. According to distribution maps many good Himalayan species are present,

    especiallyhighforestbirds.Wevisitedtwoareas:ThefamousKalashaValleyofBumboretandChitralGolNational

    Park.Thelatterturnedouttobethebestbirdingareavisitedduringthistrip.

    ChitralGolNationalParkChitralGolNPisaverybeautifulparkjust30kilometersNWofChitraltownclosetotheAfghanborder.Itisquite

    easily reachedby following the (firstpavedandgood, latergravelandnarrow!) roadwindingup themountain,

    whichstartsatPIAChowk inChitraltown.Nevertheless,hardlyany foreignersmake itupall thewaytohere. In

    2007wewereonlythesecondandthird foreignervisitingtheparkofficeatChaghbini(at2925m)thatyear.The

    landscapeisstunning,thecedarforestisfantasticandbirdlife isverygood,eveninOctober.Weobservedlotsof

    soughtafter

    bird

    here.

    Besides,

    this

    is

    THE

    to

    see

    Snow

    Leopard

    (although

    we

    didnt...).

    Later,

    Ifound

    out

    mainpreyoftheleopard,havemoveddownintointhevalleyentheyarefollowedby1to3animals.InOctoberwe

    werejoined by thewarden and observed quite a few ChitralMarkhors (IUCN categorized Endangered), but,

    despiteintensivesearching,noleopard.

    TheentranceroadcrossestheMountainOakzone.HerewefoundflocksofWaterpipit(8)andBlackheadedJays(2

    and4)andthreesuperbSpectacledFinches,the latterforagingalongtheroad ingrassat2400m.Wewalkedthe

    leveltrailfromthewardenshouseovertheridgetoasaddleattheIshperudehstreamthroughfantasticCedarand

    Pineforest.Higherupgrowjunipers.InsomeplacesHazelispresentintheundergrowth.Herewefound>8skulking

    Blackthroated Accentors. In the CedarPine forestwe observed, amongst others, Blackthroated Thrush (>25

    migratingbirds;onceaflockof20birds),MistleThrush(2),HimalayanWoodpecker(2),ScalybelliedWoodpecker

    BumboretValleyTheBumboretValleyisoneofthethreeintriguingKalashaValleys.TheKalashaareanonMuslimcommunity.The

    Kalasha live in three fertilemountain valleys very close to theAfghan border.Althoughwe visited the site for

    culturalreasons,somenicebirdswereobserved.Atthegraveyard inKrakal I foundaBrookesLeafwarbler ina

    flockofatleast30HumesWarbler.FiveWhitecheekedTitswerepresentinamixedspeciesflockbetweenBatrik

    andBrun.TwosoaringLammergeiers,4WhitecappedWaterredstartsandaCitrineWagtailwerealsoobserved.

    PUNJAB

    The lowlandsofPunjaboffergoodbirding.Especially the riversand freshwaterareasaregoodandoffer some

    restrictedspecies.However,wevehardlybirdedhereasmostvisitswere in largecitiesandwithamorecultural

    goal.Still,somegoodspecieswereobserved.Manybirdswereseenfromthebus,duringtransportation(andstops)

    betweencitieswhichcrossmostlythroughagriculturallandscapeandvillages.PanjnadHeadandsurroundingswas,

    quitebriefly,visitedbytaxi(fromMultantoUch).GoodbirdsseeninPunjabwereBrownRockChat(Iwassurprised

    toseethisspeciesthatregularlyinvillagesinPunjubaroundMultan)andtwoforms(capistrataandophistioleuca)

    ofVariableWheatear(IalreadysawmanypicatainSIran).

    PanjnadheadAtPanjnadHead(as is inthename) fiveriversandchannelscometogether.Thereareextensivereedbedshere.

    Alongtheroadchannel,therearepoolswithlushvegetation.HereweobservedPheasanttailedJacana(1),Indian

    RiverTern (2),StreakthroatedSwallow (3),WiretailedSwallow (1),OrientalHoneyBuzzard (1),Brownfronted

    Woodpecker (1), Clamorous ReedWarbler (4 singing), Plain Prinia (8), Yellowbellied Prinia (1), Rufousvented

    Prinia(>2),StriatedBabbler(aflockof7)andSindSparrow(2),whichwasquitegoodconsideringtheunfavorable

    timeoftheday(duringthehottesthours)andtheshorttimeofthevisit.
