SENSIIVESince Te Jet is the most popular o all Ossekeag charactersand I do mean characters, I will do a little update.

As you know Te Jet is big but also very sensitive!! And itsnot just his sensitive personality, he also happens to have verysensitive skin. Last year during the summer, he developed anasty rash that spread throughout much o his belly area. woweeks o pills and he was as good as gold!! Tis year he didntget sensitive until October, so it was back to the vet and anotherround o pills!! However, during the visit with the vet, there wasanother disturbing nd ... in a matter o months, it appears thatTe Jet had gained ve pounds. Te Jet is also very sensitiveto two months o unlimited access to apples!!

Shortly aer his vet visit, Te Jet turns around and suddenlybecomes sensitive to his pills!! Aer 28 rounds o pills lasyear and seven rounds o pills this year, he started leaving pills

uneaten in his ood dish!! So I immediately switch strategies andstarted giving him the pills rst. Tis wasnt working really wellso I sprinkled a small amount o kibble on top or inspirationand he quickly learned that the only way to get a ull meal wasor those pills to disappear. He has now completed this roundo medication and is well on the road to recovering rom hissensitivities.

ime will tell i an apple ree diet will also bring a turn aroundto his weight gain!!

Te only other issue that Te Jet is sensitive to is meal time!He normally has breakast around 7:30 and supper around5:15. Tere is some variation to this on occasion, but it is prettyroutine or him to eat at these times. Without ail, wheneverhe thinks that a meal is due, he starts to get bouncy. All 90

+ pounds starts to wiggle, squirm and jump about withouany outside assistance. On occasion, however, Te Jets ideao when mealtime should be and when I think it should be aresometimes quite dierent. Faced with the act that I am totallyignoring him, he nally settles down, but will ollow me theinstant that I make any move whatsoever. When I am sittingstill, Te Jet watches me with an intensity that seems to sayDo you want to eed me or would you preer to be my nextmeal??.

Unortunately or Te Jet I am not even a tiny bit sensitive!800

SISErS & BrohErS IN SPIrI GahErINGEach December 6th, or the past 10 years on the National Dayo Remembrance and Action to End Violence Against Women,a group o women and men gather in the cool twilight at a littlecountry church on the hillside o Long Reach on the KingstonPeninsula. Without assuming all is known and understood, wegather to lament and examine our roles in violence; to stateour complicity in the harm that has been done; to recognizethe structural nature o much violence and to acknowledge the

violence that erupts and oen perpetuates itsel in amilies.ogether we grieve the undercurrents o cutting remarks,

indierence and neglect, scape-goating and belittling that taketheir daily toll on the human psyche and diminish joy and lieitsel. We gather to lament the violence o our language. We doal this through words, music, candle lighting, drumming andsilence and hopeully leave with a sense o hope that violencecan be overcome one person, one household, one communityat a time.Tis year the worship title has been expanded rom Sisters in

Spirit to Sister & Brothers in Spirit to let it be known that all arewelcome. Tis is a gathering or everyone - women and menalike. For it will be only when we all come together as peacemakers that violence will cease. Sheila Contreau leads in an

2011 kELE caMPaIGNChristmas - good times with amilyand riends, gatherings with thebest o ood and companionshipand gis to give and receive. Formany in our city quite the oppositeis true. Christmas can be a lonely, meager time o year magniedby the joy o others. Saint Johnendures a poverty rate well abovethe national level. Tere are thosewho struggle with mental illness or physical disabilities andthose whose situation is exacerbated by addiction. Some o theseindividuals have little or no amily support.

For over 125 years the Salvation Army has been a very reapresence here in Saint John caring or those most vulnerable inour society. Tis time o year we are acutely aware o how manycharities ask or your donations but we challenge you to lookat our track record; the 2010 Kettle Campaign not only helpedalmost 500 amilies have a wonderul Christmas, but assistedover 6000 individuals throughout the year.

Te 2011 Kettle Campaign will began on November 17th aCenter Court o Brunswick Square and will continue until noon

on Christmas Eve. Please give generously when you see ourkettles and allow us to pick out the gi or you this year.Tank you in advance or continuing to enable us to give hope

Joy of LEarNINGTe grand-granddaughter started kindergarten this all and isloving it. It is amazing how much a ve year old can learn ina mere two months! And how eagerly she approaches any andevery learning opportunity. Every business or road sign is areading opportunity, every speed sign a chance to show howwell she knows her numbers, and every conversation a chanceto add new words to her vocabulary. She is like a giant spongesoaking up words and numbers and concepts.

Love o learning is one o the most important gis we can giveour children. So oen we see kids hate going to school at a veryyoung age. What a loss. What have we done to stife that joyin learning and mastering new things? Learning should notbe a chore, but an adventure, an opening o new doors to seewhere they lead and what exciting places they can take us. It is

awesome to see little aces light up at realizing they can indeedsound out that word and read that sentence. o eel the energythat fows rom those new ound abilities. May it continue orthe rest o their lives.

Parents are the rst teachers (even, maybe especially, whenthey dont realize they are teaching) and so much dependson those rst ve years spent at home. Tat is when childrengain their undamental attitudes toward lie and learning. Buthe teachers and learning environment set by their rst ormalschool experiences are so important at setting the tone o theirwhole educational experience. I loved learning (although notalways the educational experience), and seeing my grand-daughter thrilled at each new school day is a joy. Tank you toall o the teachers and educators to whom we entrust those little

ones each school day. Most o what I really need to know about how to live, what todo, and how to be, I learnedin kindergarten. . . . Tekindergarten children areconfdent in spirit, infnite inresources, and eager to learn.Everything is still possible. ~Robert Fulghum . . . May theyalways remain so. 801
