    also told us that there was a hom eless ma n sleeping at the sub w ayentrance to my right. She then asked if there was anything thingelse she could do to help. W e asked her wh at her orders were fromher com m and . There were none, so we told her to exit thebuilding. I then left Sgt Vargas and wen t over to the wake th ehomeless man and had him exit W TC bui ld ing # 5 .

    , W e continued to direct the evacuees up the escalator. A t thispoint I heard m y nam e being cal led. It turned out to be Sgt S.Prospero, who was with a group of evacuees. Sgt Vargas then toldme he was going to see what else is going on the concourse leveland left m y location. This was the last tim e I had contact w ith him ,unti l later that evening whe n I was told that S gt Vargas wasinjured. I continued to assist th e evacuees up the escalator. Atthis po int I was approached by a Path ma intenance m an, who askedif he could help m e w ith anything. I asked him if he could turnboth escalators on and up. He was able to do this. I then thankedhim and told him to exit the bu ildin g. By h aving him turn on theescalators w e were able to assist walking wounded and others outof the bu ilding more quickly.Over the NYC Police radio there was a transmission that athird plane w as heading towards us. I looked up to the top of theescalator, made eye contact with the NYC Police Officer's andlooked straight ahead at the FB I agent. W e then continued to assistwith the evacuation.Sometime later th e esculators suddenly stopped, th e lightsflickered and went out, and a wom an screamed. The whole areaturned pitch black and I was unable to see or breathe. The buildingstarted shaking and there was a very loud roar. I covered m yhead, moved to my left away from a store's glass and croucheddown. At this tim e I remembered I had a handkerchief in mypocket to use over m y nose and m outh. I don' t know why thiswoma n screamed, was it because of the lights going o ut or if shesaw the debris cloud coming up behind me.After the shaking and rum bling stopped, the NYC Policeofficers at the top of the escalator ye lled do wn that the ex it wa s

    blocked, but they w ere going to try something. They told us tocome up and they had kicked the doors in at Borders B ooks, so wewere able to exit onto th e street.I then got to Police vehicle # 5147, radio th e Lincoln Tunn el

    that there was a collapse at the W TC and I was clear of thebuilding. I was then handed a bottle of water from either a NYCfireman or Police Officer. I was able to flush out my eyes withtheir help. I then opened the trunk to the vehicle to get the Scottpack out and the first aid kit. I then activated and put on the Scottpack. I then teamed up with some N Y C Police Officers from ESU#6 and then we reentered W TC #5 to look for vict ims and to searchthe escape ro ute back to W TC #1. W e meet up with othersearchers by the path escalators. They told us that th e escape routef rom W TC #1 was clear of vict ims. W e then tried to make ourway toward V ictoria Secrets through the concourse, because w eheard over the radio there was a triage set up over there. W e wereunable to get through th e concourse level because of the ceilingfalling and our way was also blocked by debris. At this tim e, I alsonoticed that most of the stores were still intact. W e then exited upthrough b uilding #5 and the N YC ESU Officer informed m e thatthey had a tem porary comm and post set up in 30 Vesey Street. W eentered 30 Vesey Street and there was an Sgt from SpecialServices who was on the phone w ith One Police Plaza. He then setup an entry team of N YC ESU #6 officers and a fire Company. Ijoined in with this entry team. W e started to reenter WTC # 5 whenthree fireman came running out of the building and yelled" It 'scoming down!"W e then ran back to 30 Vesey St, informed the Sgt. whoordered us all down to the basement away from the glass in frontof the building. The building started to shake and we heard a loudroar. After the building stopped shaking and the roar ended wecame u p from the basement and looked out the doors. Everythingwas covered in a gray dust and was burning. The Sergeant thenordered all of us, no matter who we were to evacuate this buildingand go to our left to City Hall.

    W h e n we go t to Ci ty Hal l the Sgt told me to come wi th h iminto the Ci ty Hal l m ob i le Com m and Post. W hen we entered thecomman d post I heard they were trying to contact the Com m andposts by the W TC and was unable to get a hold of any one of t h em.I advised them that over m y radio I heard that w e were regroupingat Ch am bers St . One of the NY C Police Ch iefs told me to contactth e sj tuation room at One Police Plaza and find out if there was aPort A utho ri ty Pol ice Officer there. If not , he wan ted m e to gothere. I tried to contact the situation room , CPD, the L inco ln andth e H ol land Tunnel by landline and cell phone. A ll tries failed. Ithen w e n t to inform the Chief of my faile d tries. I was unable tofind him , so I decided to leave the C om m and post and head back tothe WTC.On my way back to the WTC I found Det. M cHale. I tried toradio the Lin coln Tunnel but was un able to get through, so I tr iedthe Holland Tunnel and informed them that w e were ok and to starta list of officers clear of the bui ldings . W e them came across aW TC officer and radioed the Holland Tunnel . As we cont inuedback to the W TC we met up with PO E. Grey, Brown & EricRodriguez and radioed the Holland Tunnel .W h en we got back to the W TC location at Church and VeseySt. the Fire Dept. had a pumper at this location and most of thefires were out. W e then started to clear th e street of debris so thedamaged trucks and cars could be moved away from the bui ld ing .I then got to vehicle # 5 1 4 7 and it started, so I moved it to NorthMoore & West Street.I reported to Lt. Doubraski at the M.C.C. gym and told himwhat had happened. H e then ordered me to see the doctors at theaid station for my eyes and right arm. A fter I was treated, I startedback to W TC with PO Hall and some other C.V.I, officers andfound Linc oln Tunnel police vehicles 5101, 5102 and 5361. I thendrove 5102 back to North M oore and West Street. I then foun dLt. Doubraski and informed him I found vehicles 5101 and 5361and they were still usable.     J I then took his gunbelt and gave it to one o f the Path Officer to lock it up on the PathESU truck. At this time I returned back to the aid station to betreated for m y eyes again. I tried to find out what happened toSgt. Vargas, but nob ody knew anything. W hen I finally returnedto the Lincoln Tunnel I found out he was injured.
