Transformed Treasures

Written by Kiana Parham

This past week, Mrs. Duron’s Family and Consumer Sciences class put the finishing touches on its “treasures” projects. They were given

fifty dollars in Salvation Army money to buy anything at their store. Students spent many hours transforming the regular items into

treasures. They turned ties into wallets, candle-sticks into picture holders, picture frames into chalk and cork boards, and a plain white

lamp shade into a piece of art. These items were given back to the Salvation Army where they will be auctioned off to raise money for

their organization.

Investigational Research: Data Interpretation Who knew plant food could be so much fun to investigate? Students in Mrs. Torre’s RtI

Reading Class spent two weeks interpreting data tables, comparing growth rates, and

summarizing details to explain growth rate in plants exposed to various kinds of plant

food. Collaboration, questioning, and understanding were necessary components that led to

student-centered success. We did it!!

We are so happy to welcome Mrs. Genee Kim here at Lackland

ISD. She will be here a few days of each week

providing speech therapy services.

Ms. Friday's SFA

students presented

their first Book Clubs

this week, and they

did such a fantastic

job that she wants to

borrow several! There

is such a variety to

choose from, that if

you stop by to look,

you may find one that

you just have to read!

On October 9, the Varsity Stacey Lady Eagles Volleyball Team played a district game against Tilden High School. The Lady Eagles were 1-3 in district play this season. They

played a hard-fought game, but Stacey lost by a score of 3 sets to 0. Although the Lady Eagles lost, they showed great spirit by wearing pink bandanas and customized shirts to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Lady Eagles are now 1-4 in conference play

but still have a shot of making the playoffs. Keep working hard, Ladies!

Voting Pouches

The fashion design class designed and created pouches for the Active Expressions Electronic Votes. Mrs. Osborn and Ms.

Rabidas asked the students to make a class set for their rooms. The pouches attach to student desks with Velcro and were designed to be removable in order to be cleaned. Math

students now have the ActiveExpression student responders at their side. These devices allow teachers to instantly assess

student learning. Teachers can send quizzes and tests directly to the student responders and collect the results in real time
