“There was a judge in a certain town

who neither feared God nor respected any human being.”

Sadly that describes many people in power in the time of Jesus and in our own time. But Jesus describes a woman

whose persistence moves the self-centered judge to render a just judgment. Notice that Jesus does not say that the judge ruled in favor of the woman. Just that his decision was JUST. That is what the woman was so persistent to obtain. In contrast to that judge, God wants what is right and just for us. But that may not be what we want. We should pray for God to reveal what HE wants FOR US. Often our prayer is what WE want FROM GOD. When we are persistent in prayer to learn God’s will for us we grow in our faith. Such faith is not easy. Even St. Theresa of Calcutta had periods of doubt, but she prayed to discern God’s will for her and did it regardless of her doubt. We may not achieve the ac-complishments and gain the notoriety of St. Theresa, but we can be persistent in prayer to know God’s will for us. God does not ask any more of us than that. But he does ask that.

Word of Life

This year’s theme, Christ Our Hope: In Every Season of Life, is particularly suited for the times in which we live. The attacks against human life seem to grow more numerous and callous by the day. Despite these challenges, we know that Christ has conquered sin and death once and for all. Through our Chris-tian hope in the Resurrection, we are given the grace to perse-vere in faith. Our sacrifices on behalf of the Gospel of Life can contribute to the redemption of this current culture of death.”

The 2019-2020 Disciples Response Fund campaign has begun with a mailing to all registered parishioners from Bishop Medley. Support of the work of our Diocese is impor-tant. There are many things that even the largest parishes cannot do on their own. For example, the Disciples Response Fund as-sists with the expenses for the education of our seminarians and provides operating in-come and scholarship funds for the Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp. Your gift to the 2019-20 DRF will make it possible for us to accompany others on their journey of faith. This year Sts. Joseph and Paul received $2,446.41 in rebates from the 2018-19 DRF campaign which helped our overall budget. October 19th and 20th will be Commitment Weekend so please be as generous as you are able. Our pledge target goal for this year is $26,098.78.
