Reno High School's Booth Street Players

In collaboration with Samuel French. The Reno High

School Theater presents

Thorton Wilder's OUR TOWN

Winner! 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama "While all of Wilder's work is intelligent, non-synthetic and often moving, as well as funny, it is Our Town that makes the difference. It is probably the finest play ever written by an American." —Edward Albee Described by Edward Albee as "...the greatest American play ever written," the story follows the small town of Grover's Corners through three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage," and "Death and Eternity." Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre—die."(Samuel French) This story discusses life and the importance of being aware and present in your own life. TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED IN THE FINANCE OFFICE 333-5050 EXT 34002 STARTING NOVEMBER 9TH

RENO HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC GROUPS ARE

PREPARING FOR CONCERT EVENTS

This fall, the Reno High Bands and Orchestras are

preparing for a series of unique performances. Enrollment

for instrumental music is at a record high; over 200

students are participating in ensembles including Concert

Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Concert Orchestra,

Symphonia Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Many new

freshman are playing instruments and reaping the rewards

of a strong music education at our school!

The Concert Band (now referred to as “Wind Symphony”)

has been rehearsing for two concert contests in California.

On October 10th, both the Wind symphony and Jazz

Ensemble will be competing with 27 other high school

bands in Sacramento for awards and honors in a concert

format. This is the first time that our school has been

represented in this regional event.

On October 14 and October 21, bands and orchestras will

present the annual “Fall Harvest Concerts”. These public

concerts will be held for the first time in the newly

refurbished RENO HIGH PERFORMAING ARTS CONCERT

HALL in the red-house project building, and our community

can see what changes have been completed. New carpet,

interior renovations, sound shells and new rehearsal chairs

are just the beginning. We will also be launching the

CONCERT CHAIR ENDOWMENT FUND, which allows friends

and families to purchase a memorialized audience chair to

be used for all of our future events in the Concert Hall. The

concert space is truly a “work in progress”, and we invite

everyone to attend the concerts during the year and see

the changes as we progress in the acoustic improvements.

On November 8th, the Reno high Wind Symphony will

perform as a guest band to open the 38th Annual NEW

AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL at Sacramento State

University. The Wind Symphony is playing music this fall

written by living American composers, and was selected as

the first Nevada music group to be included in this

prestigious week of music composition premiers. For

those unable to make the concert performance in person,

Page 6: October 2015 Newsletter

(Band and Orchestras continued…)

there will be a live-stream link provided by the university

for all the public in Reno to see this special event.

The fall season continues with Wind Symphony and Jazz

Ensemble performances in Fairfield, California at the

Northern California Championships. The fall semester

completes with Bands, jazz Combos and orchestras

featured at the annual BARNES AND NOBLE fund raising

performance scheduled for December 5th at the bookstore

on Virginia Street.

Admission for all of our band and orchestra concerts is

$5.00 at the door. Proceeds will support continued

concert hall upgrades and additional instruments for the

bands and orchestras.
