Computer Engineering is the combined fields of Information and Communication Technology. This includes computer systems, software engineering and telecommunications systems. All systems that form part of the design, installation, commissioning and management of systems forming part of the Information Super Highway form part of Computer Engineering.

You may choose to become a generalist or a specialist

• A Generalist has broad knowledge and skills in several issues. Someone with many abilities and interests or whose job contain varied duties. A Generalist is a professional whose time and projects demand they learn a variety of disciplines within Civil Engineering. Generalists have the advantage of understanding the intersection between the different disciplines. Generalists are extremely valuable because they can see issues and details from multiple perspectives, bringing a broad view to the project.

• A Specialist on the other hand is devoted to a particular occupation or branch of

study or research. One who’s practice is limited to a particular branch of engineering. A Specialist is a professional who has time, experience and projects to allow him/her to go deep into a discipline. Because he/she can concentrate on one discipline, he/she becomes very knowledgeable and experienced at solving problems that crop up. Specialists are valuable since they know how to tackle the many subtleties that make or break a project.

The economic and social well-being of our country is significantly influenced by the efficient movement of persons, goods and services. This is the purpose of this discipline. To this end, the discipline includes the study of pavement engineering, geometric design, traffic engineering, traffic safety and

transportation planning.

SANRAL is committed to developing skills of students who express an interest in studying and building a career within the Road Infrastructure Administration Environment and Civil Engineering industry. We therefore invite candidates studying towards a University degree in: Civil, Environmental and Transport Engineering to apply for bursaries.

Consideration will be given to needy students who have successfully completed their first year of undergraduate study or those currently registered for 2nd, 3rd, 4th year and post-graduate studies. However, strongly motivated applications from matriculants with at least 70% for Mathematics and Science students studying towards the above Engineering fields, and registered with a University will also be considered.

Induction Programme for New Bursary Students

We will invite all new students awarded Bursaries for an induction sessionto brief them about SANRAL’s activities. We also develop the buddy systemwith students where we develop relationships with them and the ProjectManager who will assist them with information required for their academicprojects.

Vacation Work and Internships

• We provide an opportunity for interns to use the workplace as an active learning environment.

• We provide opportunities for new entrants with a view to acquire skills that would make them employable.

• We assist students to obtain required practical experience and to complete their qualifications.

• These programmes provide SANRAL with an opportunity to compile a database of prospective employees for future recruitment purposes.

The bursary awarded to each student shall be a full award and will cover:

• Tuition/Registration • Accommodation/Meals • Books/Equipments plus Compulsory excursion and seminars • Living Allowance

Our requirements for the bursary are as follows:
