f Ohio State and Illinois played every year for 89 consecutive years, between 1914 and 2002, until the series was interrupted in 2003.

f The game Saturday will be the 12th time in the last 17 years that the teams have played.

f The Buckeyes have won eight straight against Illinois and lead the overall series 68-30-4 with a 36-12 mark in games played in Champaign.

MORE ABOUT THE ILLIBUCK f The winner of the Ohio State/Illinois game is awarded with the Illibuck, a wooden replica of a turtle.

f Two junior honorary societies, Bucket and Dipper of Ohio State and Atius-Sachem of Illinois, are responsible for the care of the Illibuck.

f The tradition began with a live turtle in 1925.

f The Illibuck is the second oldest trophy exchanged in the Big Ten, behind the Little Brown Jug trophy played for by Minnesota and Michigan.

f This is Ohio State’s only “trophy” game during the regular season.

STRENGTH AGAINST STRENGTH

f Ohio State’s run defense will be tested this week by the conference’s No. 2-ranked rushing offense in Illinois.

f The Illini are averaging 222.4 yards per

game and eight of their 11 offensive touchdowns have come on the ground.

f The Buckeyes have the Big Ten’s top rushing offense at 233.2 yards per game.

fMaster Teague’s 380 yards is third highest in the conference and he’s tied for second with six rushing touchdowns.

FAST FOUR-GAME START FOR WILSON

f His average of 128.3 yards per game is second in the Big Ten and No. 7 nationally.

f That’s nearly 10 yards better than David Boston’s single-season record for receiving yards per game, which was set in 1998 (119.5).

BIG NOON = BIG EYES

f Ohio State’s Big Noon kickoff vs. Indiana last Saturday was the most-watched game of the day and was FOX’s best metered market rating (4.3) of any college football game this season.

f Three of Ohio State’s four contests have been the highest-rated games of their respective weekends.

f Across all networks, Ohio State has three of the top six highest-rated games over the course of the entire season.

HEAD COACH RYAN DAY2019 DAVE McCLAIN BIG TEN COACH OF THE YEAR • 20-1 CAREER RECORD

Ryan Day enters his second full season as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2020. He guided the Buckeyes to a 13-1 season in 2019, his initial season as a head coach. His team was dominant: winning 13 consecutive games by an average of over 36 points per game while ranking in the Top 5 of 12 major NCAA statistical categories. He now has a career record of 18-1 and an 12-0 mark against the Big Ten Conference. Day is the first Ohio State coach in 40 years to be named Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, and he earned the honor in 2019 by coaching, developing and leading one of the best teams ever in school history. His 2019 Buckeyes became the first Big Ten team ever to win three consecutive outright Big Ten titles and the team advanced to the College Football Playoffs for the third time in the six-year playoff history. Day’s 13 victories in 2019 are tied for the most by a first-year FBS head coach and he is the first coach to win 13 games without the benefit of a bowl victory. The Buckeyes were ranked among the nation’s Top 5 in 14 of 16 weeks. Individually in 2019, Day coached a third consecutive Big Ten Quarterback of the Year (Justin Fields) and his program featured the

first 2,000-yard running back in school history (J.K. Dobbins), two Heisman Trophy finalists (Fields and Chase Young) – only the sixth time this has been accomplished – and four first-team All-Americans (Wyatt Davis, Dobbins, Jeff Okudah and Young). He was considered for virtually every national coach of the year honor and was named the first-year Coach of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America. Day is a native of Manchester, N.H. He was a three-year starting quarterback at New Hampshire when Chip Kelly was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He was a team captain as a senior and earned his degree in business administration in 2002. He has a master’s in administrative studies from Boston College (2004). Day, and his wife, Christina, who uses the nickname “Nina,” have three children: Ryan Jr. or “RJ”, Grace and Ourania.
