While the content of a newspaper varies, it generallyconsists of a predetermined combination of news,opinion, and advertising. 4. Designing a Newspaper Functional Design :The priority of the page content and advertisement isscheduled and corresponding templates are allottedto them. Form Design :Physical form of design i.e. newsprint, font of data,and size of heading are taken into consideration Reliability:Negligible printing mistakes, no mistakes andauthenticity of news. Maintainability:Routine maintenance is done during the first half . 6. Standardization:Highly standardized product but the aluminumplates are customized. Once aluminiumsheet is placed it is highly continuous product, highlystandardized process, and efficient, high volume, costlyto change set up and high cost of downtime. Forecasting: Used in determining inventory. Theyforecast foreign exchange and purchase newsprint. Location Planning: Printing takes place only inahmedabad and copies are distributed from Udaipur toRajkot. Since, ahmedabad is in the centre so relativelyless transportation time. Quality Control: Newsprint is purchased from NorthAmerica. The quality what they want is not available inIndia so they import newsprint. 12. Sequencing: Same machine is used for all news paper sothey print newspaper prioritizing with the distantness of theplace where newspaper has to be delivered. Flexibility: Any news obtained before 15 mins of start ofproduction, that can be included in paper. But once if printing isstarted it needs to change aluminium sheet. Recycling: The paper waste and aluminium sheets are sold toget recycled. Maintenance: Cost of downtime is very high and the time lostis also very high.After every type of paper, maintenance team come and checkevery part of machine.The inventory needs to be taken care of specially by thetreating them with insecticides and protecting them from water. 13. Types of wastage Wrapper waste: weight of wrapper is also included while weighing the newsprint weight. Cut waste: If the papers are not intact or torn due to mishandling are taken out. Print Waste: There is an initial waste of copies when the ink is new. Sweep waste: Wastage after newsprint remains unused. 14. The TOI imports its news printsfrom North America ,Indonesia and Philippines .Hencethe orders are placed, keeping the Foreign exchangerates into account. The ink is purchased from localmanufacturers. A stock of 7 days is maintained as the inkshould not get dried up. Storing Raw material : The Newsprint received is storedat port cities in cheaper locations, insecticides are used toprotect paper from insects. The shipment & storage hasto be water proof. The ink is stored in a central tankwhere optimum temperature is maintained.Strategic Capacity Planning for products and services :If any distributor wants to increase copies, he canincrease till 11 pm but in case of decrease in the number 17.
