What is it?
The REAL Services’ Energy
Assistance Program is a State
funded program that assists low
-income households with elec-
tric and heating expenses during
the winter months, keeping you
and your family from
being disconnected.
How does it Work?
Once the EAP determines a household
qualifies for assistance, the utility
companies will be notified of the benefit. Payments will be made direct-
ly to the utility companies. Once the
utility companies have been notified of their status, families that have been
approved for Energy Assistance are
protected from disconnection between December 1st and
March 15th of the current heating season.
The EAP can be used for a one time
credit on your utility payment.
This is not a monthly payment. Energy Assistance cannot be used for
deposit money nor old bills.
How do I Apply?
You may find the application
online at: www.realservices.org/_wp/
index.php/community-services/
energy-assistance/
OR Your Case Manager can print one off
for you and assist you with mailing it in, or faxing it in.
You will want to double check that you have secured and sent in all
documents asked, before sending in
the application.
(They will start taking applications
October 1st)
We would like
to personally
thank all of our
Veterans for
your service, the
risks that they have taken, and the
sacrifices that were made. If you
know a Veteran, or come across
one in the community, please take
the time to say Thank You.
If you are a
Veteran, or have
a friend or family
member who is,
please inform
them of the
Military Veteran
Stand Down
event.
What is one small thing you can do during October’s
Breast Cancer Awareness
month? Get a breast examina-tion/check-up. If you recently
have done so, we encourage
you to encourage your lady friends to do so, as
well. Early detection saves lives. If you or someone you know is going through
breast cancer, or is a surviror, please check
out LIVESTRONG at your local YMCA.

From Your Case Managers
Don’t go in & out of doors needlessly. Frequent opening and closing of
doors wastes heat and money
Caulk, seal or weather-strip all seams, cracks & openings to the outside.
You can save 10% or more on your energy bill by reducing air leaks in your home.
You can use heavy-duty clear plastic sheets that are taped tightly to the
inside of your windows to reduce heat escape through windows.
Keep draperies & shades on your south-facing windows open during the
day to allow sunlight to enter your home and closed at night to reduce
chill you may feel from the windows. During the cooling season keep
window coverings closed during the day to prevent heat from the sun.
INGREDIENTS
8 slices bacon
5 (15 oz) cans corn kernels, drained
1 c. milk 1 tbsp. sugar
Kosher Salt
Black Pepper 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, quartered
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, cut into tablespoons
Thinly slices green onions, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
1. In a nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy, 8 minutes.
Drain on a paper towel-lined plate, then crumble.
2. In a slow cooker, add corn, 3/4 of the cooked bacon, milk, and sugar and season
with salt and pepper. Stir until combined, then top with cream cheese and butter.
3. Cover and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 6 hours, stirring well after 1 hour.
4. Garnish with remaining 1/4 of cooked bacon and green onions before serving.
INGREDIENTS
1 fully cooked ham (any size will work
as long as you have a slow cooker large
enough for it) Glaze:
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
3/4 cup Dr. Pepper (half of a can)
1/4 cup maple syrup
DIRECTIONS
1. Score ham by using a sharp knife to cut lines into
ham in a criss cross pattern. The lines only need to be about 1/8th of an inch deep. Fill slow cooker with about 1 inch of water. Place ham in slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
2. 1 hour before serving, prepare the sauce. Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a medium sauce pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 10
minutes. Remove from heat and allow to thicken for 5-10 minutes.
3. Drain water and ham juices from slow cooker. Pour sauce over ham inside the slow cooker, being sure to cover the whole ham. Cover and cook another 30
minutes. Place ham on serving dish. Carve/slice the ham and spoon the remain-
ing sauce from the slow cooker over the ham. Serve warm. Enjoy!
