Introduction

Any global logistics operation, with its complex web of vendors,

warehouses, distribution centres, service operations, transportation

routes and hubs, can reveal an intricate map where individual costs are

difficult to separate and understand. Logistics optimization describes

the entire process of materials and products moving into, through and

out of an organization. This is neither easy nor cheap but it is the

biggest opportunity for most organisations to significantly reduce their

cost and improve their performance. For most logistics operations,

there is an opportunity to reduce cost by 10% to 40% by making better

decisions. Organizations have made tremendous strides in

automating transaction processing and data capture related to

logistics operations. However, few organizations today know how well

their logistics optimization is actually performing and how to determine

their most significant opportunities for improvement.

Objective

Most organizations try to tame complex logistics operation by

deploying expensive technology tools, hiring consultants for business

process re-engineering, or, more recently, deploying exotic analytics

frameworks. Alone, none of these solutions can produce the type of

savings, while maintaining the quality, needed to outcompete in this

new, more complex and more competitive economy. What is required

is a smart mix of process, analytics and technology to simplify the

logistics networks, mitigate logistics risk and optimize the associated

costs.

The gamut of Logistics Optimization includes optimizing the

following:

1. Order Management

2. Outbound transportation and distribution management

3. Procurement and inventory management

4. In-Plant logistics such as stores , movements

towards line and shop

5. Inbound transportation

6. Information management

This colloquium intends to bring together students,

academicians and industry experts to understand the path of

Logistics Optimization via the route of Quality-Cost Trade off

and Innovative Models or following the best Models as set by

the leaders that can be put to practice effectively and

efficiently.

Bhubaneswar, the capital City of Odisha, is popularly

known as the city of temples. A thriving centre of art and

culture, Bhubaneswar, literally meaning the Lord

(Eswar) of the Universe (Bhuban), is a hub of historic

temples. Bhubaneswar, with the Lingaraj temple, Puri

city life from time immemorial, the world renowned Odissi dance form having

originated here. The present modern city of Bhubaneswar was designed by the

German architect Otto Königsberger in 1946. Like Jamshedpur and Chandigarh,

it is one of the first planned cities of modern India. With the Chandaka reserve

forest on the fringes, the city with an abundance of in-city greenery is one of the

cleanest and greenest cities of India. The other important attractions in the city are
