We understand that you may feel nervous about coming to a hospital or doctor’s office, but we want to reassure our community and employees that we have put stringent protocols in place to protect every person who comes through our doors. Our trusted clinicians are here and ready to welcome you and your family. From emergency care to routine appointments, your health is too important to put on hold. Our Safety Practices Mount Sinai has established a safe environment by implementing a range of rigorous protocols, which includes the following: Continually disinfecting all areas and frequently touched surfaces Requiring patients and staff to wear face coverings Following social distancing protocols Screening all patients for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival Regularly testing our staff for COVID-19 Implementing strict isolation practices to separate COVID-19 patients from other patients. Cleaning Protocols All areas are rigorously disinfected, including waiting, operating rooms, and high- touch surfaces. Patient rooms receive a ceiling-to-floor cleaning after each discharge and before a new patient is admitted. This process takes approximately two hours and includes several quality assurance checks. In outpatient practices, all examination and treatment rooms are disinfected between patient visits. High-touch surfaces such as doorknobs and kiosks are continuously cleaned. Your Visit to Mount Sinai We have trusted teams of researchers, administrators, and health care providers who know how to keep you safe. We have one of the most advanced safety programs in the nation. Our wide range of protocols ensures all patients coming to us are safe and comfortable. From streamlined check-ins to social distancing practices, and face mask requirements, we are taking every possible precaution to protect you and your loved ones. Social Distancing: We are minimizing contact between patients by spacing furniture, limiting the number of patients in waiting areas, and scheduling more time between appointments.

Elevator Monitoring: We are monitoring the number of patients in elevators. Throughout the building you will see visual aids of our elevator safety guidelines.

Behind the ScenesStaff Screening: Staff are monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 twice daily and tested for exposure to COVID-19.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is it safe to go to Mount Sinai Health System hospitals and doctor’s offices for an appointment, procedure, or surgery?

A: Yes. At Mount Sinai, our doctors, nurses, and staff members are working diligently to ensure the health and safety of each patient who depends on us for care. We are protecting our patients with rigorous protocols—including continuous disinfection, maintaining social distancing, and separation of COVID-19 patients.

Q: How can I be kept safe from another patient with COVID-19?

A: To look out for everyone’s well-being, we are isolating COVID-19 patients from other patients. If you have COVID-19, we will reschedule appointments until a future date when you are no longer contagious. If you have COVID-19 and need to see a doctor right away, you will be directed away from other patients. If you do not have COVID-19, you can be assured that any other patients you may encounter while at the office will be screened for everyone’s safety.

Q: Are elective surgeries being scheduled at Mount Sinai Health System hospitals?

A: As of June 9, 2020, the state of New York is now allowing elective surgeries, which were halted due to the COVID-19 crisis. Elective surgeries can now take place at all Mount Sinai Health System hospitals, doctor’s offices, and ambulatory surgery centers.

Q: Can my doctor treat me via telemedicine?

A: Yes. We will continue to provide this virtual service to our patients.

Patients are allowed four hours of visitation each day; emergency room patients are allowed two hours of visitation.

The hospital reserves the right to restrict the total number of visitors to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19, or has been around someone with COVID-19, will not be allowed to enter the hospital.

After completing the symptoms screening, visitors are asked to provide their name, contact information, and the name of the patient they are visiting.

Visitors must stay in the patient’s room throughout their visit unless asked to step outside by hospital staff.

A patient is allowed only one visitor at a time.

Separation of COVID-19 Patients: All patients who are treated for COVID-19 are isolated from other patients. For inpatient surgeries, we have rooms and wings reserved for patients that are separate from where COVID-19 patients are treated.
