GENERAL NEWSLETTER – TERM 2 WEEK 8
From the Principal
Reconciliation Week 2021
On Wednesday 2nd
June as part of Reconciliation Week our Indigenous Students worked with Miss Dixon and Mr Honeysett on a variety of Reconciliation activities as well as writing a brand new Acknowledgement of Country for our school. It was fantastic to see a large number of parents who came to join in the activities, thankyou to those parents for a wonderful morning of sharing. I would like to thank Michele Roberts, Kim Dixon and Adam Honeysett for their time spent organising this day for our Indigenous students. Welcome
I would like to warmly welcome Nicole Carters to our school, Nicole was appointed to our school during our
merit selection process in Term 4 last year and has been on maternity leave until now. She will be joining us from tomorrow and will work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays each week supporting Stage 2 students under the COVID Intensive Learning Support program. We are very lucky to have her at our school. School Uniform
An important reminder as winter begins, all students must wear the correct School Uniform jumpers and jackets to school. We have had an increasing number of students across the school wearing non-school uniform jackets, this is not in line with our policy. It is an expectation that EVERY student at CVPS wears the correct uniform to school EVERY day. If you require assistance in ensuring your child/children wear the correct uniform then please contact the office to make an appointment to discuss how we can support you here.
High School Enrolment Forms
Mudgee High School Enrolment Forms were distributed to Year 6 students last Thursday. These forms need to be completed and returned to our school office as soon as possible.

relating to racism in the school or complaints about incidents of racism. Please see the information sheet attached to this newsletter for more information regarding this. ‘Sentral for Parents’
As mentioned previously, last term we discontinued
using the Skoolbag app, in it’s place we have decided
to use ‘Sentral for Parents’. Emails will be sent out to
families this week with instructions on how to register
your account. Sentral for Parents will enable families to
easily:
* View school newsletters
* Advise of past and upcoming student absences
* Receive notification messages from the school
* View calendar events
* Book and manage Parent/Teacher night interviews
Keep an eye on your emails over the next week for the easy to follow instructions on how to register. Please
do not hesitate to contact the school office if you have any questions or need assistance with registration.
Bike and Scooter Storage
We have a large number of students who come to school riding their bikes or scooters, which is fantastic to see and something we encourage. Recently some students have needed a
reminder about where to store their bikes or scooters. Could I ask if your child is a bike or scooter rider, please have a conversation with them about storing their bikes and scooters in the bike racks supplied at school rather than in walkways or doorways. Storing bikes and scooters in the correct areas will ensure everyone stays safe and no damage is caused. Michelle Neaverson-Smith Principal
Library News There has been a lot happening in the library the last few weeks with an overhaul of our space. We have been lucky enough to have received new shelving and furniture. We are working hard to get it all put back together and will hopefully have the space fully up and running for borrowing over the next week or two. See the picture for our new Non-Fiction area. It's very open and inviting and as the students keep telling me, "it smells sooo good".
Premier's Reading Challenge We have completely surpassed last years results now and are up to 72 finishers!! What an amazing result so far. We are still having students finish daily and having their hat added to the PRC wall. If you have any questions, please DOJO, email or phone the school. The challenge finishes on Friday, August 20th, which is Week 6, Term 3. Mudgeeque On Saturday 5th of June, 6 of our Cudgegong Teachers braved the cold and crowds to volunteer as COVID marshal's at Mudgeeque. It was a fantastic evening representing Cudgegong Valley Public School and our Cudgee ECO Team. I want to thank Mudgeeque event organisers, Kate Rose from Slow Fox Wines and mum to one of our students, Florence in Year 1, for inviting us to be a part of this night. They donated $500 towards our bio-diversity garden and collected Return and Earn bottles and cans for us. All proceeds of the Return and Earn cans will go towards our environmental programs. A huge thank you needs to go to Mr Lindsay, Mrs Murray, Mrs May, Mrs Burgoyne and Mrs Kadie Roberts for volunteering to help be COVID Marshals on the night. Because of their hard work, we could raise these much needed funds. A special thank you also goes out to Chad and Charmaine Hurrell from Plumbing Worx for supporting the ECO Team by allowing the event to happen on their beautiful property, Evamore Valley and helping me store the Return and Earn cans. Mr Hurrell has been on the look out for some hollow logs to put in our gardens to help provide shelter for insects.

Recounts from our recent incursions
Students in 5/6F wrote about their experience
watching our recent incursions who visited our school
over the past few weeks. We hope you enjoy reading
the following 2 articles….
Just Romeo And Juliet
“To be or not to be that is the question.” “What's in a
name? That which we call a rose by any other word
would smell as sweet.” Many quotes from the famous
William Shakespeare have been taught throughout the
world. On Friday the 28th of May the Bell Shakespeare
associated with Andy Griffiths took a visit to
Cudgegong Valley Public School, to perform Just
Romeo and Juliet. The story was modified and made
extremely funny to engage students. The visit helped
children learn the life and ways of Shakespeare's time
in the 1500s and 1600s. It showed a peek into the lives
of the performers and to what they do for a living.
Instead of doing the average play they were doing a
play in the play.
To wee or not to wee that is the question.
Shakespeare would have said that on the toilet,
exclaimed one of the actors. It was closely followed by
him saying behind a bush or behind a tree. Overall, it
was a great experience to have and we wish that they
will continue to visit our school for the years to come.

Musica Viva
Boom, crash, bang! This is the sound of drum beats
going at their fullest, the noise buzzing and vibrating in
our ears. Music in my suitcase was brought to C.V.P.S
on Tuesday the 1st of June.
“At times I fit into lyrics more than I fit into life,''
claimed the Musica Viva team. Unusual actions, silly
songs and strumming guitars from sun up to sun
down, there was a large variety of music on display.
With it came a cultural learning experience. It was an
interactive experience for students and it was a great
learning experience for the students and even the
teachers! All the children greatly enjoyed this amazing
experience and no-one went home without learning
something new.
With a great knowledge of music and languages they
let students share their knowledge of other languages.
Un chandil (one candle), deux chandil (two candles),
trois chandil (three candles), quatre chandil (four
candles) and quatorze chandil (fourteen candles).
Miles McGreal taught us how to say numbers and
words in French. The performers were open to
learning from the children and encouraged them to
just have fun. Overall it was one of the best
performances to come to C.V.P.S.

INSIGHTS
Use your words Dad
Seven-year-old Thomas lay crying on his bed wrapped in the arms of his father. Thomas was upset and his dad was trying to findout what was bothering his son. His voice was quiet, and his words were soothing.
Gradually, Thomas opened up, sharing with his father how his best friend had embarrassed him in front of others at school.Unable to articulate his disappointment and anger, Thomas’s father did so for him. “I guess you feel let down. I’d be really madtoo if that happened to me.”
Thomas let out a sigh, relaxing even more into his father’s embrace knowing he understood how he felt. Empathy has a soothingeect on upset children.
Popular parenting author Steve Biddulph is correct when he wrote that activity is the main language of fathering. Dads usephysical touch and play to build relationships and as a tool to develop self-control, teamwork, fairness, and other values.
However, if activity is the only way a man relates to his children, his impact will be limited. As Thomas’s father discovered, physical touch may provide an entry point but it’s through talking that we get to the heart of matters that bother children andyoung people.
Anecdotally, talking with kids about their worries and anxieties is still largely a mother’s preserve. Sexuality educators report thatmothers do most of the talking when it comes to sexuality, respectful relationships, and consent.
Talking through personal problems with a son or daughter is a new role for many men, especially for a generation whose fathersstoically advised them ‘get on with it’ when problems emerged. Many males feel more comfortable giving advice rather thansolace to kids who are struggling.
The most eective parents are those who adapt to the times in which they live. The COVID-19 era requires parents to be even more patient, calm and focused on children’s wellbeing. Parents of both genders need to communicate from their hearts as wellas their heads, finding words to support and heal, as well as to advise when children and young people struggle.

NSW Department of Education
Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO)Information for parents and carers
The NSW Department of Education rejects all forms of racism and is committed to the elimination of racial discrimination.
The Department’s (Anti-Racism Policy) requires each school to have an Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO).
The ARCO is an experienced teacher nominated by the principal. The ARCO is trained to assist students, teachers, parents and community members who have concerns relating to racism in the school or complaints about incidents of racism. The ARCO can assist by providing:
1. advice on the procedure to resolve concerns or complaints about racism
2. support during the process to reach a resolution.
Complaints of racism are managed by a complaints manager as explained in the School Community and Consumer Complaint Procedure. People making complaints may ask for a representative to make the complaint on their behalf. The representative can be any person or organisation chosen by the complainant unless there are reasonable grounds to assume the chosen person is not appropriate, for example if the person poses a risk to health or safety or their entitlement to information about a child has been restricted by law.
Interpreter assistanceIf you need an interpreter to help you to speak to the school or to make an appointment please ring the Telephone Interpreter Service on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language.
Tell the operator the school’s phone number and the operator will ring the school and will get an interpreter on the line to help you with your conversation.
If you need an interpreter during meetings with school staff, ask the school to organise one. The school will arrange an onsite, online or telephone interpreter, depending on availability.
You will not be charged for interpreting services.
