FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 22-28 Altar Candles Delserro Family r/o Dolores Schaaf

Tabernacle Candles Anton & Elizabeth Gross r/o Barbara Lyons

Advent has a twofold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ’s first coming to us is

remembered; and as a season when that remembrance directs the mind and heart to await Christ’s Second

Coming at the end of time. Advent is thus a period for devout and joyful expectation.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Opportunities to support your Parish

In addition to Mass intentions for your loved ones you may remember them through the following memorial opportunities: · Sanctuary Flowers · Altar or Tabernacle Candles, or Sanctuary Lamp · Meditation Garden Remembrance Bricks · A gift of cash, securities, or other assets to OLMV.

Please remember Our Lady of

Mount Virgin in your estate planning:

The generous bequests of parishioners and friends are critical to fulfilling the mission of OLMV Parish. OLMV provides outreach and pastoral and spiritual support to many who live on the edge of poverty and loneliness. These bequests also support and the maintenance of our beautiful church and grounds. Remembering the Church in your estate planning says something special about what was meaningful to you in your lifetime; it is a way to ensure that the parish community you value will continue into the future; and it’s a way to leave a meaningful and important legacy to those who will come after you. As always, thank you for your support of OLMV.

From the Desk of Father David

Father David, Father Louis, Father Peter, Deacon John T, Deacon John C, Deacon Tom, Deacon Edgar, and our parish staff wish our

parishioners a most blessed and joyous Christmas and a grace-filled New Year.

God could have chosen for His Son to enter into the world in any way He willed. He could have entered in splendor as a triumphant king. He could have appeared full-grown and mature, coming mysteriously out of nowhere, as did King Melchizedek. Instead, He chose to enter into the world as a baby. As a baby, so that in His human nature He could experience everything that we humans do, from conception and birth, even unto death. He came as a baby so that He could share most fully in our humanity, so that we might come to share in His divinity. Even in His omnipotence, He appeared not as a God of power, but as a God of gift; a God of forgiveness; a God whose very essence is sacrificial love. He came as a baby to demonstrate that true humanity is found in service; in generosity; in being forgiving; in tenderness; in compassion; and in humility. For He came as a God who came to serve, and not to be served. He came to show us that we are called to service, not to entitlement, nor to be acknowledged and recognized in the eyes of men. He is not a God of politics, nor ambition, nor pride. But a God who was humbled to be born in a manger. Hum-bled to rely on a human mother and father. Humble at birth, so that He could grow in wisdom and in grace, teaching that it was better to give than to receive. Teaching that true love is sacri-ficial love; love that consistently and constantly seeks the good of the other, rather than one’s own satisfaction. Teaching that we are called to seek and live according to God’s will and not our own. During the holy season of Christmas into which we are about to enter, we are called to remember that the Kingdom of God belongs, not to the mighty and not to the prideful, but to the humble and child-like. When a baby enters a family, it changes everything. A baby changes everything, be-cause love changes everything. May this God who came to us as a baby, rule over our hearts forever.

PARISH REGISTRATION: In order to be considered a registered parishioner, an adult (persons 21 years of age or older) must complete and submit a registration form. These forms can be picked up at the parish office. Completed forms must be brought to the parish in person. Please remind young adults (family and friends) that they must be separately registered with the parish. Ordinarily, for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation or Matrimony, or to receive a sponsorship eligibility certificate, persons must be registered and active members of OLMV.

ELIGIBILITY LETTERS FOR GODPARENTS AND SPONSORS: A person seeking a “sponsor letter” to serve as a godparent for the Sacrament of Baptism or a sponsor for the Sacrament of Confirmation must have received all three Sacraments of Initiation and be a Confirmed Catholic who is active in his or her parish and, if married, be in a valid, Catholic marriage. An “active” Catholic is understood to be a person who is registered, attends Mass regularly, and whose lifestyle is in keeping with the Catholic faith. They should ensure that their own school age children are attending Mass, are enrolled in religious education, and have received their sacraments.
