Second Sunday of Advent Segundo Domingo de Adviento

Sunday Reflection

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Here we are on the second Sunday of Advent. Our journey has begun and we are making our way through this season. We light the 2nd candle of our wreathe. The first

candle represents hope as the light which is Christ burns for us, a light that never dims and a light that never is extinguished. Our second candle represents peace. It is once again fitting that we are under the patronage of Our Lady of Peace who reminds us that peace is what her Son brings us - peace in our lives, peace in our world, peace in our hearts. In a special way on this journey, we are invited to look at our lives and the things that we do and ask ourselves if we are contributing to bringing peace into this world. Peace sometimes comes about through great sacrifice and self-giving as Jesus on the Cross reminds us. Have you reached to someone in need to show them peace through your compassion? Have you found it in your heart to forgive someone that has hurt you so that peace can be brought into your relationship? Have you tried not to instigate or cause problems that ultimately lead to drama but rather have a humble heart? During our journey of Advent, as we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ, we have to work at truly making ourselves ready. None of us is a finished product and if we think that we are, we need to once again look at ourselves and see how God is truly inviting us into this season of Advent. Our Gospel invites us to "Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight his path." Let us do exactly that as we prepare our own lives by straightening up and following Christ in all things.

This Thursday, we have our Penance Service with 15 or more priests. This is a great opportunity to straighten up our lives and receive God's mercy and forgiveness. Our Penance service begins at 7:15PM. Thursday, December 8th is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception which is a Holy Day of Obligation. It is our obligation as Catholics to attend mass on these days as it reminds us once again of the primacy of Christ in our lives and our obligation to him over all other things. I hope to see you there. We continue to honor our Blessed Mother with our upcoming Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrations next week. Please see the bulletin for more information.

Finally, this coming Wednesday, our parish school will have their annual Christmas concert at 7PM in our church. All are invited to this special concert as we acknowledge the gifts and talents of our children as they help us to experience the joy of Christmas through song. Our parish school is here to serve ALL of our parish families. If you have a child, please consider sending them to our school where your child will have a holistic education grounded in our faith as Catholics.

Our Lady of Peace... pray for us.
