Reflexión:
Nuestra rutina diaria puede ser afectada por las demandas inesperadas y repentinas
que la vida nos impone a nosotros y a nuestros seres queridos. ¿Estaremos listos para responder? Depende de lo bien que hayamos atendido
a nuestro suministro de "petróleo".
Por lo tanto, nos preguntamos:
¿Qué me ayuda a "mantenerme despierto" y alerta a la intervención de Dios en mi vida cotidiana?
¿Hay alguna práctica de oración, o reflexión, que pueda adoptar para ayudarme a responder mejor a Cristo cada día durante esta pandemia?

What helps me "stay awake" and alert to God’s entrance into my daily life? Is there a practice of prayer, or reflection, I can adopt to help me better respond each
day during this pandemic to Christ?

Did you know that Vic Omila has been our can-tor with Our Lady of Perpetual Help since 2005? While he studied at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines and graduated with a Bachelor of Science at Informatics Education in Singapore, he also has an Advanced Diploma in Computer Science. He is also the CEO at Webiloo (a professional web service), and has been a web developer for over 8 years.
But to hear him sing is always an amazing ex-perience. He was a member of the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus, and in Tampa has perfor-med with the Master Chorale, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Choir, and at numerous events at the Philippi-ne Cultural Foundation. He is regularly featured in solo and with other “stars” at the annual PhilFest, in-cluding soprano Lilac Cana (who also has sung with him at OLPH).
We are very lucky to have the amazing baritone voice of Vic Omila at our parish. He is one of the many reasons that draw us in to the wealth of our pa-rish!
¿Sabías que Vic Omila ha sido nuestro cantor en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro desde 2005? Corporal Works of Mercy The Catholic Church has traditionally encouraged her children to understand the practice of merciful love by dividing the works of mercy into two kinds: corporal (that is, bodily) and spiritual. What we see in the life of Mother Teresa is a shining example of a life dedicated especially to practicing the corporal works of mercy: (1) Feed the hungry. (2) Give drink to the thirsty. (3) Clothe the naked. (4) Shelter the homeless. (5) Visit those in prison. (6) Comfort the sick. (7) Bury the dead.

THE PARISH COUNCIL CORNER LA ESQUINA DEL CONSEJO PARROQUIAL
NOMINATIONS FOR OLPH PARISH COUNCIL
This is the time in the year that we open nomi-nations for the Parish Council. Nominated Candidates should be people of proven faith and willing to commit their time, talent, and wisdom to the development of our parish. If you want to nominate yourself, please take with you a “Nomination Card”, read it carefully, prayerfully fill it out, discuss it with significant mem-ber(s) of your household, return it next Saturday or Sunday, and place it in the box at the back of church.
If you want to nominate some other parishioner, take the card, bring it home, call that parishioner that you want to nominate and if he/she accepts the nomi-nation complete filling the card and bring it to the Church.The basic responsibility of a member of the Parish Pastoral Council (or Parish council to abbrevia-te P.C.) is to attend a monthly meeting that is schedu-led one month earlier. The meetings are Sundays from 2:00pm-3:30pm.
The duration of office is normally 3 years. The P.C. member should be open to support the PC initiati-ves that get the approval from the Pastor. To fill a “Nomination Card” does not mean that the person no-minated will automatically become a member of the PC. They are only nominations; it is up to the Pastor to officially select the candidates that will join the PC.
Potential candidates should be:
- At least eighteen (18) years of age,
- Have been registered in the parish and contrib
uting economically to it,
- Of proven faith,
- With sound morals, according the Catholic
Church,
- Demonstrating the gifts of wisdom and prudence,
- Able to study and reflect prayerfully,
- Recognize and respect the viewpoints of others,
- Willing to commit their time, talent and wisdom in
a consultative and collaborative manner,
- And willing to meet once a month, Sundays at
2:00 p.m.

Este es el tiempo del año en que abrimos nominaciones para el Consejo Parroquial. Las per-sonas nominadas deben ser de fe probada y dis-puestas a dedicar su tiempo, talento y sabiduría al desarrollo de nuestra parroquia. Si desea nominarse a sí mismo, por favor lleve consigo una "Tarjeta de Nominación", léala cuidadosamente, llénela con es-píritu de oración, compártala con miembros signifi-cativos de su hogar, devuélvala el próximo sábado o domingo, y colóquela en la caja en la parte posterior de la iglesia.
Si quiere nominar a algún otro feligrés, tome la tarjeta, tráigala a casa, llame por teléfono a ese parroquiano que quiere nominar y si acepta la nomi-nación complete la tarjeta y regrésela a la Iglesia. THE PARISH COUNCIL CORNER LA ESQUINA DEL CONSEJO PARROQUIAL

Did you know that the Spanish Civil War of 1936 to 1939 affected our enrollment at OLPH? At this time, the majority of the Spanish-Cuban community in Ybor City were favorably disposed to the Republican cause which the Church, at that time, considered Communist supported. The cry of “¡No pasarán!” energized Ybor City much as the cause of “Cuba Libre” had done so 40 years pre-viously. The community overwhelmingly supported the fight against the fascist uprising led by General Francisco Franco, and many residents donated 10% of their salary and tons of old clothes to the Republican cause. A cigar worker turned the slogan of the Republi-cans, ¡No pasarán! (they shall not pass!), into a song which was sung at rallies in both Tampa and in Spain.
Bishop Barry directed all the parishes in the diocese to hold a special collection for the families of the National forces in Spain led by General Franco. A boycott of the parish resulted, and the school experienced an immediate drop in enrollment. The Mas-ses had only a sprinkling of worshipers. The parishioners picketed the church and school.
In time, the wounds healed, although in speaking with some seniors in Ybor City, some still hold a grudge against our church.
We should learn from history and be, as a community of faith, open to all our parishioners, no matter their political stand.

¿Sabías que la Guerra Civil Española de 1936 a 1939 afectó nuestra inscripción en OLPH? En ese momento, la mayoría de la comunidad hispano-cubana en Ybor City estaban favorable-mente dispuestas a la causa republicana que la Iglesia, en ese momento, consideraba comunista. El grito de "¡No pasarán!" ener-gizó a Ybor City tanto como la causa de "Cuba Libre" lo había he-cho 40 años antes.

Este esfuerzo completara el exitoso programa “Celebrando hoy, planificando para el mañana" que iniciamos el año pasado, pero que fue ab-ruptamente interrumpido por la pandemia.

Puede venir en persona durante el horario de oficina o, mandar su solicitud por correo, junto con $10 por intención (cheque o giro postal – puede ser efectivo si viene en persona) y una nota con la intención(es) requerida(s). Aseg-úrese que su dirección postal esté completa. Nosotros le haremos llegar un reci-bo.

PARROQUIA… Simplemente llene una registra-ción que se encuentran en la mesa a la entrada de la iglesia y deposítela en la caja provista.
PARA SOLICITAR ACTA DE ALGUN SACRAMENTO... 1. Si ha recibido algún sacramento en OLPH y necesita un certificado, llene una “Solicitud de Información Sacramental” y mándela por correo. Envíe con ella un money order o un cheque por $10 (por cada certificado). 2. También podrá venir en persona a la Oficina Parroquial en horas de servicio. Si viene en persona, el pago puede hacerse también en efectivo. El certificado se le enviará a vuelta de correo o Ud. podrá recogerlo cuando se le notifique– asegúrese de que toda su información postal esté completa.

LEGION DE MARIA PARA NIÑOS, JUVENILES Y ADULTOS La Legión de María para adultos mayores de 18 años le invita a sus reun-iones semanales todos los sábados en el Salón Parroquial Padre Stokes, a las 10:00AM. La Legión de María Juvenil invita a todos los niños mayores de 8 años y juveniles menores de 18 años a participar en sus reuniones semanales, todos los lunes 6:00pm en el Salón Parroquial Padre Stokes.
