Catholic School News! www.arcsgalloway.org – 652-7134
Dear Friends,
Peace and all good! October is a very rich month in terms of our religious traditions! On October 2, we celebrated the Feast of the Guardian Angels. All month long, we will pray the Guardian Angel Prayer at the end of the day. This is a prayer of great comfort. Possibly, you might want it to be a part of your own prayer practice: Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God’s love entrusts me here. Ever this day, be at my side to light, to guard, to rule, to guide. Amen! We celebrated the Feast of Saint Francis on October 4. It is fitting that our Fruit of the Holy Spirit this month is peace as Francis was a strong believer in peaceful living and peaceful relationships. Our teachers and students will be engaging in many activities this month that will foster a peace-filled environment in our school. Saint Francis was also a lover of God’s Creation and, in particular, loved animals. We had a wonderful blessing of the animals on Wednesday afternoon when our parents brought the family pets to school. Heart-felt thanks are extended to Father Tom for being with us for this blessing! The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is on Saturday, October 7, and October is dedicated to the Rosary. Our students will have many opportunities during the month to pray this special prayer to Mary. We had our 1st school liturgy on Friday, October 6, at which we remembered Mrs. Mary Ellen Schurtz. Our students participated fully, especially with their voices. Our choir led us in song, and it was truly a joyful noise unto the Lord. Congratulations to our 2017-2018 Student Council members who were installed at the liturgy: President, Lyla Bellino; Vice President, Calli Jack; Secretary, Samantha Keough; Treasurer, Cassie Traynor; 8th Grade Representatives, Julie Bobe and Ashley Nicolicchia; Student Council Class Representatives: 5A - Thomas Burley and Mia Simone; 5B - Mackenzie Ade and Ella Jenkins; 6A - Eve Amalfitano and Reese Mason; 6B - Abigail Reed and Hanna Watson; 7A - Melissa Ledwold and Lorena Saavedra; 7B - John Flammer and Kelsey McFadden. We are grateful to these students for their willingness to serve our school community. Much gratitude is also extended to Mrs. Susan Picardi and Mr. Samuel Gorelick who moderate our Student Council. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place on Monday, October 9 from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. There is no school for students. Please know of my continued gratitude for the many ways you support the ministry of Catholic education at Assumption Regional Catholic School. We could not do it without you! Many blessings,
B. Joan Dollinger Principal
After a successful summer of hosting Vacation Bible School at OLPH we are already planning our next one and hoping to make it bigger and better! In order for that to happen we need even more volunteers than last year. If you can help in any way, big or small, please join us on Saturday, 10/14, at 10:00am in the Parish Office for our first planning meeting. If you would like to help and can’t make it, or have questions, please contact Erin Martin at [email protected] or 214-2444.

CONGRATULATIONS- Society of St. Vincent De Paul, OLPH Conference has been awarded a CRS Rice Bowl Grant in the amount of $2,000.00 for the purposes of fighting hunger and promoting nutrition in your local area. Each year 25% of funds collected in the diocese through CRS Rice Bowl program remain here locally. STEPHEN MINISTERS: THE AFTER PEOPLE People often ask, "What exactly is a Stephen Minister?"
One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People.
Stephen Ministers are there: . . . after the phone call you hoped you'd never get.
. . . after the divorce papers are served and the bottom falls out of your life.
. . . after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you've held at bay come crashing in on you.
. . . after the doctor says, "I'm sorry, but there's nothing more we can do."
. . . after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says, "Welcome to your new home."
. . . after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away-and the house suddenly seems empty.
. . . after the gavel goes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away.
. . . after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever dreamed possible.
. . . after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck. . . . after your family and friends have heard your story one
too many times, but you still need to talk it out.
Stephen Ministers are the "After People." They are ready to come alongside you-or your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives-and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed. www.stephenministries.org For confidential assistance contact Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish office (609) 652-0008 and someone from the team will be in touch.
