PRAY FOR PEACE

“Peace I give to you; My peace I leave with you.” If you will recall that I asked you to join me in a year of prayer for peace. The violence continues in the city of Chicago . The murder rate in the city of Gary is at a seventeen year high and continues to rise. A child is abused. This must come to an end!! So today I would like to invite you to join me every Friday on a permanent basis to take some time and pray for peace. It can be five minutes or half an hour or an hour, whatever time you may have, let us spend it in prayer for peace. You do not have to be in church, although the church is always available to you. Prayer can happen anywhere you are. You can be alone or get together with some friends. Let us just do this and use this great tool that the Lord has given us and make our world a place of love and peace. When good people come together in prayer wonderful things will happen. Let us lift our prayers for peace. Remember the Lord says I will hear the prayer of the faithful person.

Catholic Services Appeal:

We are “A Church of Living Stones.”

Your sacrificial gift does make a difference. I am most grateful to those who have responded so generously to the 2018 Catholic Service Appeal. We are however, far behind in meeting our goal. If you have not had the opportunity to make your pledge, please return your envelope to the Diocese of Gary. For your convenience, they accept both checks and credit card payments.

Please support the 2018 CSA Campaign

THOUGHTS FROM THE PASTOR

In our reading from the Letter to the Hebrews we are told "Brothers and sisters: He "for a little while" was made "lower than the angels, " that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone." What a great sign of the love God has for us. He could have saved us by the spoken word or the wave of His hand but instead, He gave us His Son. And not only that, His Son became like us to taste death so that we could be lifted up to become members of His family. The Letter goes on to say "He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them brothers." Thank you, Father God, for your Love for us.

Please read important information from Bishop Hying

given to you as an insert in today's bulletin.

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Let us use these Biblical passages to help us celebrate the Lord in our lives and relationships

Ordinary Time 2018

Matthew 12: 38-42 "Teacher We Wish To See A Sign From You."

Stewardship Thought For The Week "Lord Help Me."

This is what the Canaanite woman cried out to the Lord Jesus. It is what those who are in need cry out today. And how will the Lord help them? Perhaps it is through you. Maybe, just maybe, you might be the instrument that Jesus will use to help this person or that person. My point, if we open ourselves to the will of the Father we become His hands in the world to help with the needs of our brothers and sisters. Be a good steward.

We currently have $39,013.59 in our building fund. This money is part of our Roof Fund. We need $100,000.00 for a new roof on our Faith Formation and Social Center building. The patch that we have on the roof has reached the end of it's warranty. It could fail at any moment, so we really need to get this roof fixed.

I am your humble servant,

Rev. Charles A. Mosley

WHAT ARE THEY ASKING ABOUT

THE CHURCH TODAY

In this Column I will answer questions about the Church or the parish; so whatever you want to know about the Church or the parish, please just ask. In addition we will sometimes look at issues that affect our Church or our members. Today will start our series on the Holy Spirit.

Praying to the Holy Spirit The Church's public prayers (Mass, Sacraments, and Divine Office) begin and end with, "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." Reflecting on the words of the liturgy, quietly and prayerfully, is a good way to appreciate the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Christian life. Praying to the Holy Spirit before making significant decisions and remembering His presence in troubled times enable us to see the bigger picture, one centered on the love of God and one another, as directed toward our eternal salvation. Next week: A Final Word

BECOME A BUSINESS PARTNER WITH GOD

Pet Blessing –Saturday, October 20 at 10am in the courtyard. All species welcome!

Bulletin Shorts 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Grandparents know this. The question about

divorce today leads to this normative answer by Jesus, about union, about becoming “one flesh.”

A further conversation is about receiving children and how they accept life, affection, love and, thus, the Kingdom of God.

Because they “know” dependence, they trust others.

Grandparents relish this. They sing as the appoint-ed Psalm 128:1-6 does today, of being blessed, of trusting the Lord, of embracing children as blessing, of seeing their children’s children. So does God!

How can I strengthen marriage?

How will I cherish and protect my children and grandchildren and all children?

How will I accept God’s action
