Message from Fr. Joe
Last weekend our gospel was about the Parable of the
Sower, and this weekend Jesus continues by telling another
story on a similar subject. This parable is a story of a man who
had planted good seed in his field, but when he was asleep, his
enemy came and sowed weeds all through the fields of wheat.
My dear friends, this parable is a story that humanity
has lived. We have to accept the fact that in this world there are
bad things in the best of us and good things in the worst of us
and none of us in this life will ever know who is bad, who is
good and who is pretending. That is why we have to leave the
sorting of the good and bad to God, because it is God’s final judgment at the end that will matter most.
The heart of this parable is that Jesus is telling us that there is a final judgment and a final separation
of the good from the bad. He is also sending us the message that the weeds can spoil and even kill a good
harvest if they are not separated and destroyed. But uprooting them too early can also destroy the good
plants in the process. What Christ is telling us is that we have to practice the virtue of patience. Let us not
forget that God's judgment is not hasty. He is lenient and merciful. His judgment is not measured by retri-
bution, but in love and mercy. He is willing to wait until the very last moment for us to turn things around
and make things right.
But make no mistake, when the final judgment comes, He will separate what is good from what is
evil. He will sort out the weeds from the wheat and it will be absolute and final. This final judgment is not
to scare us but its purpose is to motivate us to live our lives according to His will and to direct us to be the
kind of people that God wants us to be. Let us not forget that the righteous who persevered in living their
faith through Jesus Christ, will one day shine in the kingdom of their Father.
Fr Joe

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Wisdom 12: 13, 16-19, Romans 8: 26-27
Matthew 13: 24-43
God’s lenience and mercy are extolled throughout to-
day’s scriptures. Wisdom teaches us that God’s mercy
gives us all “good ground for hope.” The Holy Spirit
helps us in our human imperfection, Saint Paul explains.
Jesus’ parables illustrate that with God’s patience we can
rise and shine like the sun, even as part of a field of
weeds or as seemingly insignificant as a tiny mustard
seed. Reassured, we sing together, “Lord, you are good
and forgiving.”

Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra-

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-
mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You

Pope Francis’ Prayer to Mary
During Coronavirus Pandemic
O Mary, you always shine on our path as a
sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust
ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at
the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping
your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman
People, know what we need, and we are sure
you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy
and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine
Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by
Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our
sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection.
Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not
disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every
danger, O glorious blessed Virgin.
PRAYER FOR HEALING AND
PROTECTION AMIDST COVID-19 CRISIS
Lord Jesus, at your command, the sick were made well! Come to
our aid now, in the midst of the Global spread of the Corona Virus,
that we may experience your healing love.
Heal those who are sick with the Virus. May they regain their
strength. Heal us from our fear, which prevents us from working
together and with one another. Heal us from our pride, which can
make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.
Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty, sorrow and fear. Be
with those who died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in
peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As
they worry or grieve, defend them from illness and despair.
Be with the medical professionals who seek to heal and put
themselves at risk in the process. Be with the leaders of all nations,
give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the
wellbeing of everyone.
Lord, stay with us as some of us mourn, as many of us try to
endure, persist, struggle and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give
us your peace.
Lord Jesus Christ, heal us and protect us. Amen
