On behalf of the Advisory Council, Past National Presidents reported they talked about ways to

increase the direct involvement of Excel Club members and encouraged Exchange leaders and national staff to explore ways to keep them involved after they graduate and move on to college and beyond; and, look at ways to involve their parents in Exchange. Consider establishing a “Collegiate Internet Club” to keep Excel members involved. A group of Past National Board members will work together to resurrect APNOD (the Association of Past National Officers and Directors), and to establish APNOD as a fundraising entity to help raise money for the NEC Foundation. The bylaws are presently being reviewed.

Approved The Nugget in Reno, Nevada, as the location for the 2018 National Convention.

Approved recommendations presented by the Awards Committee: To add language to the bulletin awards section of the Awards Manual – “Hardcopy and

electronically submitted bulletins will each be judged on their individual and unique qualities – hardcopies judged in print form, and electronically submitted judged electronically.”

To clarify language regarding the A.C.E. Award application, Section 2, Narrative A, by changing copy to read: “Describe in your own words the event or events in your of which you are most proud.”

31st CAP SYMPOSIUM A SUCCESS! The 2014 National Exchange Club Annual Child Abuse Prevention Symposium was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in conjunction with The National Exchange Club’s 59th Convention. More than 65 people attended, representing 36 Exchange CAP Centers and three Exchange Affiliate organizations. Symposium attendees express deep appreciation to the NEC Board of Directors and the NEC Foundation Board of Trustees for their dedication to our CAP Center Network, as demonstrated in their financial commitment to support the Symposium and more than $32,000 awarded in scholarships to Centers! A highlight for attendees was the National Project Luncheon. A presentation by Darlene Ellison reminded attendees of the importance of child abuse prevention. The keynote speaker was Mallory Hytes Hagan, Miss America 2013. She shared a personal passion and commitment to end child abuse. She then thanked Exchange for its efforts and challenged all to continue to find ways to protect children. CAP Centers participated in the Convention Expo through displays highlighting programs and success achieved across the country. Evaluations were outstanding, with 97% “Strongly Agreeing or Agreeing” that workshops provided overall value. Participants attended workshops with topics, such as: Creating Change in Clients: How to Motivate and Empower; Board Development/Growth; Ethical Considerations in Child Welfare Practice; Building Relationships to Support Families through Exchange Parent Aid; Power of Resilience & Relationships: Building Protective Factors into Practice; and more. As always, the CAP Symposium provided an excellent opportunity for CAP Centers to be involved with Exchange leadership and the many Exchange Club members attending the annual NEC Convention. The speakers, workshops and networking were invaluable. The two most frequent comments heard throughout the week were: “This is such a great event” and “Thank you for this opportunity!” We look forward to seeing everyone in Columbus, Ohio, in 2015! Why is becoming a Berkey Fellow important?

“My primary reason for becoming a Berkey Fellow is to build our Endowment so that the interest on that money will ensure that our Programs of Service and our Child Abuse Prevention Project will be funded in the future. Secondly, Kay and I enjoy attending the Berkey Dinner with our Exchange friends at the National Convention.”

Past NEC and NECF President

Jim Brown

What is the Berkey Fellowship? Named in honor of Charles Berkey, the founder of Exchange, the Berkey Fellowship honors outstanding supporters of the ideals of the National Exchange Club. Individuals or clubs can join this elite group of Berkey Fellows with a contribution of $1,000 or more to the National Exchange Club Foundation during the fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Monthly payments are available.

How is Berkey Fellowship money used? Gifts made to the Berkey Fellowship become part of the Endowment Fund - a permanent bank of funds for the NEC Foundation. The Endowment Fund’s principal is permanently invested, and interest earnings from the fund are used to support the programs of Exchange. The Endowment ensures that Exchange’s programs are sustained well into the future.

How can I become a Berkey Fellow? To make your Berkey Fellowship donation easily, electronically, please visit www.exchangeclubfoundation.org/donations.htm and note “Berkey” in the memo area.
