YEAR OF MERCY

Excerpts from Pope Francis’ letter on the Year of Mercy

If God limited himself to only justice, he would cease to be God, and would instead be like human beings who ask merely that the law

be respected. But mere justice is not enough. Experience shows that an appeal to justice alone will result in its destruction. This is why God goes beyond justice with his mercy and forgiveness. Yet this does not mean that justice should be devalued or ren-dered superfluous. On the contrary: anyone who makes a mis-take must pay the price. However, this is just the beginning of conversion, not its end, because one begins to feel the tenderness and mercy of God. God does not deny justice. He rather enve-lopes it and surpasses it with an even greater event in which we experience love as the foundation of true justice.

COMING HOME

WOMEN’S CORNERSTONE 2016

GIFTED WITH GOD’S PEACE & GRACE

GOD'S PEACE

As I face the rising sun,

Feeling its warmth and promise of the new day,

I thank the loving God for gracing me with His peace,

In my home, in my heart, and within the depths of my soul.

Amen

Plant the seed and bring a friend!

In today's Gospel, we confront the age old question: "Who is my neighbor?" The Good Samaritan story tells us that the question can't be answered in a legalistic, comfortable way. The Gospel demands a real stretch, and mercy propels us far beyond what appears expedient or even safe. "Neighbor" conjures up a comforting image. But the neighbor in need may not fit our norms or expectations. The Gospel is full of surprises. Peace, Fr. Frank

THANK YOU Dear Rev. Msgr. Frank Del Prete & the Wonderful Parishioners of St. Gabriel ‘s, On behalf of the St. Michael School Community—THANK YOU! It is always a good feeling to know that there are such generous, caring people out there. And, St. Gabriel's Parishioners are at the top of that list. They are always there to give us a hand—just a phone call away. As the days get more difficult in Newark, and our people are run-ning to Florida and Pennsylvania for what they feel is a more affordable life, we continue to struggle with the families left be-hind. Just this year, I was exposed to so many difficulties our parents are experiencing...from cancer diagnoses, to difficult di-vorces and child custody battles, to severe domestic abuse. Each time, I find myself empathizing with them—but also knowing that we need to pay bills, we need to be accountable to the Arch-diocese. Knowing I have a group like you, makes the decision a little easier, and you know what? It is the correct decision to help the families in need. Yet, I could not do this without you. I thank God for you daily….and there are more and more prayers going up as the days and years go by. Thank you again...remember, you are always welcome to visit us, meet our wonderful kids, have lunch with us. Enjoy the summer! Sincerely Linda Cerino, Ed. D. Principal

LOOK WITH LOVE

God looks at us with a father’s love. He sees us as he created us to be - his beloved children who deserve another chance. When you’re tempted to focus on another’s faults, ask God to help you see everyone as he does - with love. “God is always patient, patient with us...he never tires of forgiv-ing us if we know to turn to him with a contrite heart.” Pope Francis
