Benedictus - the Song of Zechariah

Blessed are you O Lord our God: you have come to your people and set them free. You have raised up for us a mighty Saviour: born of the house of your servant David. Through your holy prophets you promised of old: that you would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us.

You promised to show mercy to our forebears: and to remember your holy covenant. This was the oath you swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship you without fear: holy and righteous in your sight all the days of our life. And you, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High: for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way, to give God's people knowledge of salvation: through the forgiveness of their sins.

May your light be in my utmost holiest. Your heavenly domain approaches. Let your will come true in the universe just as on earth. Give us wisdom for our daily need, detach the fetters of the faults that bind us, as we let go the guilt of others. Let us not be lost in superficial things but be freed from all that keeps us from our true purpose. A Joyful Assembly

We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken: let us therefore give thanks to God, thus offering acceptable worship with reverence and awe: for our God is a consuming fire.

Give me a candle of the Spirit, O God, as I go down into the deeps of my being. Show me the hidden things, the creatures of my dreams, the storehouse of forgotten memories and hurts. The First-born of All Creation

Christ is the image of the unseen God: the first-born of all creation. In him all things in heaven and on earth were created: all that is seen and unseen, thrones and dominions, principalities and powers: through him and for him all things were created.
