Living the Paschal Mystery Jesus satisfies human needs. The story tells us that the crowds fol-

lowed Jesus because they saw the signs he did on those who were

diseased. After witnessing another sign they will recognize him as a

prophet. The recognition on the part of the crowds is based on Jesus

satisfying human needs. We can be reminded of family life and

dealing with children. Often as long as all needs (and wants) are met

things can seem to be going along well. The children are satisfied.

We will see later in this same chapter of John that Jesus asks some-

thing of the crowds and most abandon him. It’s easy to follow Jesus

when we are on the receiving end of his bounty and goodness. It’s

easy for children to be happy when they are on the receiving end of

parents’ bounty and goodness. But what happens when the crowds

are asked to make a commitment? What happens when family mem-

bers are asked to step up and take some responsibility?

Growing into adult discipleship means that there will come a time (if

it hasn’t come already) when we will no longer be simply on the

receiving end of the relationship. We will be called to enter further

into a relationship with Jesus that is more mutually reciprocal,

though Jesus will always be the teacher and we will always be in the

position of disciples. Jesus will call the crowds closer to the circle

with him. It’s easy to be a follower, or a member of the crowd re-

ceiving goodies. Soon, those crowds will be invited to go deeper.

Sesquicentennial Custom Rosary

before they are gone.

A custom-designed, limited-edition, dark red and gold rosary is now

available to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Catholic

Diocese of Wilmington. The rosar ies, made in Italy by the

Ghirelli Company, were blessed at the Vatican by Pope Francis on

June 6, 2018 during His Holiness’ Weekly Audience in Saint Peter’s

Square. The Official Custom Rosary of the Diocese of Wilmington’s

150th Anniversary features a crucifix that is designed after the beau-

tiful crucifix in the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Wilmington. The back

of the crucifix is engraved with the words, “Catholic Diocese of

Wilmington 150th Anniversary 1868-2018.” The front of the rosary’s

centerpiece holds an image of the Blessed Mother from the famous

Charles Parks Our Lady of Queen of Peace statue located on the

grounds of Holy Spirit Church in New Castle, Delaware. On the

centerpiece’s reverse, is an image of Saint Francis de Sales, the Pa-

tron Saint of the Diocese of Wilmington. In place of the traditional

“Our Father” beads, the rosary has a medal crest of the Diocese of

Wilmington, with a map of Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore

on the back, indicating the twelve counties that comprise the Dio-

cese. All beads are 8 mm dark red Bohemian glass, while the chain

and custom features are made of antique gold finish medal. The

rosary comes in a commemorative color pouch, and is available for a

suggested $30.00 donation each, plus shipping.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians is

pleased to announce that Corey O’Don-

nell, a graduate of The Char ter School of Wilmington and

Deirdre Holmes, a graduate of Mother of Divine Grace

School, are recipients of James P. Brennan Memorial College

Marriage Moments As you're listening to your beloved explain a problem, ask

yourself: "Why is this important to them?" One challenge in marital

communication is not understanding the emotion and motive behind

the message. Ask questions to understand why they feel that way.

Parenting Pointers

Hopefully you have enough healthy food to eat - but not everyone

does. Ask your children to join you in feeding the hungry this week

through a donation, giving food or service to a food pantry, etc.

Diocesan News Are you Being Called to God? In today’s gospel reading, Jesus makes sure that those who have

come to listen to Him are fed. He continues to feed his disciples

through the ministry of priests, deacons and religious. At Mass, in

the classroom, through social outreach and in so many other ways,

these ministers of the Church bring the Bread of Life to people who

hunger and thirst for the Lord. Is God calling you to serve through

one of these vocations? If you think so, please call or write Father

Norm Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious Voca-

tions (302-573-3113, [email protected]). Be sure to visit our

website: www.cdow.org/vocations!

eligibility guidelines. For example, a household of 4 can have no

more than $50,325 in annual household income (before taxes). In
