Living the Paschal Mystery
The Most Holy Trinity
May 21 & 22, 2016
As difficult as it is to grasp the mystery of God’s triune
majesty, it is even more difficult to grasp that God loves
us enough to share divine Life and glory with us. God
chooses to dwell within and among us. Living the dy-
ing and rising of the paschal mystery means that we are
faithful witnesses to the God within. The give-and–take
necessary for growing in God’s Life is the dynamic
rhythm of the give-and-take, dying-and-rising of the
paschal mystery. We give ourselves over for the good
of others so that we can take the risen Life God gives us
in the Holy Spirit.

Diocese News Are you Being Called to God? In today’s second reading, St. Paul reminds us that “the love of God
has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been
given to us.” Each of the baptized is called to bring that love to
other people; some are called to do so as priests, deacons, religious
sisters or religious brothers. What about you? If you think God
might be inviting you to serve in one of these ministries, call or write
Father Norm Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious
Vocations (302-573-3113, [email protected]). And be sure to
visit our website: www.cdow.org/vocations!
Marriage Moments How do you get your spouse to really talk? Try pulling out
their high school yearbook, your wedding album, or family
videos and look at them together. Ask stuff like "What was your
favorite memory?" or "What did you like most about that?"
Parenting Pointers "The Spirit of truth will guide you to all truth." (John 16:13)
We humans may be tempted to lie, or at least bend the truth, when
we are afraid. Talk with your child about times when it might be
hard to tell the truth. Perhaps share a time that was difficult for you.
Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy Information about the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy
is available at a special Vatican website – www.im.va.
Diocese of Wilmington events that are tied into the Jubilee of Mercy
will be announced on the diocesan website – www.cdow.org/mercy.
The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy will conclude on the Solemnity
of Christ the King on November 20, 2016.
The Fortnight for Freedom: Witnesses to
Freedom will take place from June 21 to July
4, 2016, a time when our liturgical calendar
celebrates a series of great martyrs who re-
mained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St.
Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter
and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. You are
invited to attend a special Mass to begin the Fortnight for Freedom
on June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Baltimore Basilica (America’s First Ca-
thedral). Archbishop William Lori will celebrate. Through spe-
cial arrangements with Stonyhurst College in England, the relics of
St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher will be at the Mass. For more
information, visit www.Fortnight4Freedom.org.
To honor Mother’s Day, Catholic Charities is sponsoring a diaper drive to support our Diaper Bank. As the only
affiliate of the National Diaper Bank Network in Dela-
ware, we provide diapers to families in need. Currently, our Diaper Bank
serves over 100 families! To help support our Diaper Bank, please make a
donation of diapers, baby wipes, or other baby hygiene items. Donations
can be brought to any Catholic Charities location throughout the month of May. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation. You can also donate
gift cards or cash. Visit our website at www.cdow.org/charities to donate
online using a credit card. If you know someone in need, have them call
Bayard House at 302-654-1184 to learn how to participate in the program.
Annual Catholic Appeal – Blessed are the Merciful
for They Shall Obtain Mercy Participants in the 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal can expect
to receive their first payment reminder on or about June 1. Addi-
tional reminders will continue through December. Please mail all
payments in the self-addressed, return envelope provided with your
mailing. Do not submit payments to the parish office or through the
Offertory collection. Also, some parishes have contacted the office
requesting a listing of Circle of Honor donors and/or respondents to
the Pastor’s Solicitation. Please understand that the staff is working
diligently to process and record pledges received from all 58 parish-
es prior to the scheduled May billing. With the acceptance of credit
card, PayPal and on-line pledges, the work is intensified. Therefore,
it is for this reason that the development office is unable to provide
listings of donors – Circle of Honor, Pastor’s Solicitation and the
like – until early June. Thereafter, the office will be able to offer
accurate data regarding donor participation, pledges received in
comparison to the parish goal, and other related information a parish
may wish to acquire.
