He has been a Member of the German Bundestag since 2002, representing the constituency of Bamberg- Forchheim. At the parliamentary elections in 2013, he won 52.2 per cent of first votes in his constituency. Reinhard Limbach, Deputy Mayor, City of Bonn. Reinhard Limbach was born in Bonn and has been working in the real estate sector since 1983. He became a certified real estate manager in 1987 and founded his real estate company in 1994. Reinhard Limbach has been member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) since 1984 and City Councilor of Bonn since the year 2005. In July 2014, he was elected Deputy Mayor of Bonn. His thematic work focusses on planning, economy, finance and municipal facility management.

Richard Dictus, Executive Coordinator, United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Mr. Richard Dictus has been the Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme since January 2013. Before that, he was United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Malawi (2009-2012). Mr. Dictus joined the United Nations Industrial Development Organization as a Junior Professional Officer in South Yemen in 1987. He subsequently served as UNDP Assistant Resident Representative, Programme in Sudan (1990-1992), Lesotho (1992-1994) and Bangladesh (1994-1998), covering environmental management, rural development, microfinance, human rights and disaster management practice areas. As UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Pakistan (1998-2000), Mr. Dictus played a significant role in coordinating humanitarian assistance during floods and cyclones and the safety and security of UN staff. From 2000 to 2001, he served as Management Advisor (Deputy Chief), Administrative Services Division, with the UNDP Bureau of Management in New York, United States of America. He then went on to be Deputy Director of Human Resources in the Bureau from 2001 to 2005, where he contributed to the change management and transformation processes across the organization. Returning to the field, Mr. Dictus was the United Nations Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Fiji from 2005 to 2009, where he honed a strong track record for effecting change management. Mr. Dictus is a national of the Netherlands. He holds a Master of Public Administration and Development Studies (Technical University of Twente). He is married with three children.

Sarah Poole, Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ms. Poole assumed the position as the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director to the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) as of 15th November 2015. Ms. Poole was Senior Regional Adviser, Division Chief in the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC), responsible for 12 UNDP offices in the Western Balkans as well as Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania. Prior to this, Ms. Poole has held the following positions in UNDP: Senior Advisor on Strategic Initiatives and UN Reform, Partnerships Bureau (2007-2010); Deputy Resident Representative for Programme and Operations in Turkey (2004-2007); Team Leader for the Western Balkans, Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS (2001-2004); and Team Leader and Advisor on Socio-Economic Reintegration, Emergency Response Division (1999-2001), supporting post-

crisis recovery and community-based programming in Africa, the former Yugoslavia and Arab States. Before joining UNDP, Ms. Poole worked for the US Department of State’s Bureau for Population, Refugees and Migration in Bosnia-Herzegovina as the Deputy Regional Affairs Coordinator (1996- 1998) and as the Regional Refugee Coordinator covering Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the former Yugoslavia (1998-1999). She served as an Information Officer for USAID’s Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance in Washington, Rwanda, Burundi and Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1994-1996. Ms. Poole holds a Master’s of Science in Government from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French from the University of Michigan. Between 2000 and 2003, she served as an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, teaching a graduate seminar on the linkages between conflict, development and peacebuilding.

David Nabarro, Special Adviser on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Dr. Nabarro works with Member States and other relevant stakeholders to galvanize action on implementation of the Agenda, while also overseeing the Secretary-General’s special initiatives, for example, “Every Woman Every Child”. He has more than 30 years’ experience in public health, nutrition and development work at the national, regional and global levels, and has held positions in non-governmental organizations, universities, national Governments and the United Nations system. Since September 2014, he has served as Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Ebola, providing strategic and policy direction for the international response. From 2005 to 2014 he was Senior Coordinator for Avian and Pandemic Influenza. From 2011 to 2015, he served as Coordinator of the Movement to Scale Up Nutrition, and since 2009 he has been the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition, a position he will continue to hold. Dr. Nabarro started his career in the United Kingdom National Health Service. He then worked in child health and nutrition programmes in Iraq, South Asia and East Africa. Since 1990, he served as Chief Health and Population Adviser to the United Kingdom Overseas Development Administration, and in 1997, he became Director of Human Development in the Department for International Development. In 1999, Dr. Nabarro joined the World Health Organization (WHO) to lead the Roll Back Malaria initiative, and was appointed Executive Director in 2001. In 2003, he became the head of WHO’s Department for Health Action in Crises. Born in London, he qualified as a physician in 1973.

Alexandra van der Ploeg, Global CSR Program Director at SAP SE, Member of the Executive Committee SAP SE. Alexander Van der Ploeg has been with SAP since 1999. She started with SAP Switzerland in charge of management development and over the course of the next ten years, held various managerial positions in Human Resources. For the past six years, she has managed global CSR programs at SAP SE. In this role, she is in charge of setting the direction for corporate volunteering at SAP as well as driving the conceptual design and implementation of a variety of pro-bono volunteering offerings, such as the SAP Social Sabbatical portfolio. Alexandra van der Ploeg is currently also serving on the executive committee of IMPACT2030 and is part of the Leadership Council of the Realized Worth Institute. She holds an MBA from Henley Business School in Great Britain and has lived in numerous countries, such as Russia and Brazil.

Dr Gill Greer, Chair Volunteer Groups Alliance From 2006-2011, Dr. Greer was the Director General of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), an INGO working in 172 countries providing advocacy, education and health services, including maternal health, HIV/AIDS, family planning and adolescent health. Prior to this, she was the Executive Director of the Family Planning Association of New Zealand, and Family Planning International, a frequent speaker at the UN, Assistant Vice Chancellor Victoria University, and a teacher. In 2011, she was named as one of 100 Most Inspiring People Who Have Delivered for Women and Girls by Women Deliver. In 2012 she was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to international health and women’s rights. She has written books on Katherine Mansfield, journalist and artist Robin Hyde, numerous articles and papers and has been a freelance broadcaster, television panellist and consultant. She was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2005. In 2015, Gill was a Fairfax “New Zealand Women of Influence” finalist. A member of the Board for the International Forum for Volunteering in Development, and chair of the Volunteer Groups Alliance, she also sits on an advisory panel for the New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Impact of Volunteers’ contributions for the SDGs

Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General, UN Department of Field Support. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Atul Khare of India as Under-Secretary-General for Field Support, Department of Field Support in January 2015. Mr. Khare brought to the position strategic management and innovative reform expertise in both headquarters and field perspective. Mr. Khare has a long senior career with the United Nations, most recently as Assistant Secretary-General leading the Change Management Team (2011-2012) and Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations and Deputy Head of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York (2010-2011). He was previously Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste and Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) at the level of Under-Secretary-General (2006-2009), working earlier as Chief of Staff and Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General with the United Nations Mission of Support in East Timor (UNMISET). Former Director of The Nehru Centre and Minister (Culture), High Commission of India in London (2005-2006), Mr. Khare served during his tenure with the Indian Foreign Service in its diplomatic missions in France, Mauritius, Senegal, Thailand and the United Kingdom, as well as the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York. Mr. Khare holds bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, as well as master’s degrees in business administration and leadership from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.

Mounouna Foutsou, Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Cameroon. H.E. Mounouna Foutsou is a native of the Mayo Danay division, Far North Region, Cameroon. Since October 2015, he is the Cameroon minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education. He enters the Government on June 2009 as Secretary of State to the Ministry of Secondary Education. Mounouna Foutsou has studied Civil Engineering at the Civil Engineering Major (Ecole Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique) based in Yaounde, Cameroon. On 1990, he obtained a Diploma on Design in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Urban Engineering from this University School. He is also a laureate of the Economics and Management Sciences Faculty of the University of Yaounde II-Soa where he obtained in 1992 a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Policy Assessment, and in 1996 a Master’s Degree in Economics.

Hita Raj Pande, Minister, Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Nepal. Hon. Hita Raj Pande is a member of parliament and Minister for Government of Nepal, Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development. He is elected as a constituent assembly member of Nepal on November 2013, from Gorkha District. He was also member of Constitution Draft Committee in Constituent Assembly. He is a member of CPNM (Centre). Academically, he holds bachelor’s degree on economics and Education. He has several years of experience as teacher and principal of secondary school. Hon. Pande is socio-politically active in involvement and participation in sociopolitical movement from 1997, his active leadership has equally contributed from village level committee to district and national level organization.

Mahamane Baby, Minister of Employment, Vocational Training, Youth and Civic Education, Mali. H.E. Mahamane Baby has a long career in the UN System. He was successively a Portfolio Manager for Caribbean and Pacific regions for UNV/UNDP, Manager for ICRISAT and Deputy Coordinator at USAID, Consultant at the World Bank. Prior his nomination as Minister of Employment, Vocational Training, Youth and Civic Education, he was in charge of the West and Central Africa portfolio at UNDP. H.E. Mr. Baby holds an MA in English and a specialized graduate diploma (DESS) from Sup'management, Bamako.

Saskia Schellekens, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, United Nations.

As Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ms. Schellekens provides strategic guidance and policy advice to the Envoy in support of his mandate to strengthen the UN’s programmes on youth at all levels. In this capacity, Ms. Schellekens in particular leads, directs and coordinates the efforts of the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth to ensure youth issues and priorities are duly reflected in the outcomes of UN intergovernmental processes and their follow up and review, including the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and Financing for Development. She provides overall strategic and programmatic advice on the implementation of the Envoy’s work plan focused on Participation, Advocacy, Partnerships and Harmonization and the continued advancement of the World Programme of Action for Youth. Prior to joining the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ms. Schellekens worked at UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, over 11 years in various positions. She was a member of the lead author team that led the 20-year global review of the implementation of the Programme of Action of the ICPD (International Conference on Population and Development) since its adoption by the UN Member States in 1994. Prior to that, she was the Special Assistant to the Director, Technical Division, as well as acting Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General/Deputy Executive Director (Programme) at UNFPA. Saskia started out at UNFPA working on Adolescent and Youth issues, in particular coordinating the various global

Before joining UNFPA, Saskia worked as a programme officer with the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation (HIVOS) in her native country, the Netherlands. She started her professional career as an assistant lecturer on International Development Issues at the Free University in Amsterdam and was involved in a multi-year research project on Civil Society Development in the post-Soviet era in Georgia. Ms. Schellekens holds a Master of Science in Advanced Development Studies from the Radboud University in Nijmegen and a Master of Arts in Organisational Anthropology from the Free University, Amsterdam, both in the Netherlands

Ghassan Sayah, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Lebanon From 1975 to 2010, Mr. Ghassan Sayah was the CEO of the YMCA in Lebanon. From 1978 to 1982, he was also a Senior Management Consultant. In 1993, he published “Potential Constraints upon NGOs in Lebanon”, a paper presented at the workshop Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Reconciliation in the Middle East: A View from Civil Society. In 1999, he became member of the Board of Administration of the Lebanese NGO Forum. In 2010, he was appointed as the senior advisor to the Minister of Environment. In 2014, he became Member of the World YMCA Executive Committee, representing the Middle East. He will hold the position until 2018. In 2014, he received the Cedars Decoration from Minister Nazim el Khoury in the name of the president of the republic of Lebanon. In 2016, he represented H.E Mr. Mohamad El-Machnouk, Minster of Environment at After Cop21 Adaptation Policies for the Mediterranean Case of Lebanon conference. Mr. Sayah is a Member of the social & economical council in Lebanon, an ex-Member of the Supreme Health Council in Lebanon, ex-Member of the VOLAG (International Voluntary Agencies) in Geneva, ex-Member and representative for the Refugee Committee of the World Alliance of YMCAs in Geneva, ex-Member of the Executive Committee of CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation in the USA and the ex-Chairman of the Regional Development Committee of CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation, USA. Ghassan Sayah holds a Bachelor of Arts: Psychology and Business Administration, at the Haigazian College in Beirut.

Shri L. K. Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,, Government of India. Shri Gupta is an officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and a Management Graduate. He has been actively involved in formulation and implementation of policies and programmes for development and empowerment of youth for last 3 years in his capacity as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India. During this period, the National Youth Policy, 2014 was finalised and introduced after extensive consultation with stakeholders. He has also played a key role in finalisation and introduction of the National Young Leaders Programme, aimed at developing leadership

qualities among youth through their participation in neighborhood youth parliaments, in voluntary community service activities and other means. As an IAS Officer, Shri Gupta has worked in various capacities in District Administration, the Provincial Government of Tripura and under the National Government. During his various assignments, he has worked on socio-economic development issues in the fields literacy and education, health and sanitation, environment conservation, promotion of rural livelihoods, skill development, entrepreneurship development, small and micro-enterprise development, public supplies, digital literacy, delivery of e-Governance services, empowerment of differently-abled persons, provision of basic amenities in rural areas, etc. As District Collector, Shri Gupta work for all-round development of tribal communities in a remote hilly forested District. Shri Gupta has always made conscious efforts to build productive partnerships with all stakeholders as a strategy to enhance the quality and impact of the programme implementation.

David Akopyan, Deputy Country Director, United Nations Development Programme Somalia. 22 years of UN experience and now Senior UNDP Deputy Country Director for programmes in Somalia. Served on assignments and missions in Latvia, Tajikistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Kazakhstan and in New York for managerial and programme development positions. Have 10 years of additional experience in Research &Development and statistical analysis of complex systems. Led teams of researchers for the preparations of 5 National Human Development Reports and 2 MDG national reports. As the Chief of Operations supported the UN Secretary General’s appointed High level Panel on post 2015 Development agenda and the formulation of SDGs. In Somalia together with a key focus on short term Peace and State building Goals was able to initiate the national wide discussion on longer term development planning and to advocate SDGs for a country in crisis. Prior that was UNDP Deputy Country director in Afghanistan. In 2006-2009 worked at the UNDP HQ as Planning Advisor. Before New York was 5 years in Central Asia with the International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO - Chief Technical Adviser of Regional Trade Program in Central Asia and prior the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan. In 1994-2001 Assistant Resident Representative with UNDP in Armenia actively involved in national development policy formulation. In 1991-1993 was Senior Research Associate with Center for Business Research and Development at the American University of Armenia David holds an MBA from American University of Armenia; and PhD from Yerevan State University on laser physics and MA on theoretical physics.

Mitchell Toomey, Director, UN SDG Action Campaign. Mitchell Toomey is the Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign (formerly known as the UN Millennium Campaign) since January 2015. Prior to this position, Mr. Toomey held the position of Senior Advisor in the Knowledge, Innovation and Capacity Group of UNDP. In that capacity Mr. Toomey has played an instrumental role, in partnership with the UN Millennium Campaign, in the groundbreaking MY World and World We Want citizen "crowd sourcing" efforts, which ensured that the post-2015 agenda-setting process would be informed by the widest and most inclusive citizen consultation process in UN history. Mr. Toomey also shaped the design of citizen engagement campaigns for the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development, and more recently the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit in partnership with UN OCHA. Mr. Toomey has also worked to leverage UNDP's knowledge networking as the foundation for "managed crowd sourcing" techniques, providing actionable data and visualization as an output of large-scale consultations, working towards real-time open collaboration and solution sharing both within UNDP as well as at the service of partner governments and other stakeholders. Previously, Mr. Toomey led the e-Business and Business Intelligence service groups for UNDP's Bureau of Management, with work ranging from public digital communications, donor relations and reporting, results based management tools and methods, and transparency initiatives for the Multi-Partner Trust Fund office and others. Mariarosa Cutillo, Chief of Strategic Partnerships, United Nations Population Fund. Mariarosa Cutillo, a national of Italy, has recently undertaken the role of Chief of the Strategic Partnerships Branch, within the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships of UNFPA. Mariarosa brings with her more than 20 years of professional experience, working for the private sector. Before joining UNFPA, she was the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Benetton Group, as well as President and CEO of Benetton’s UNHATE Foundation. She has served as director of Valore Sociale per l’Impresa Responsabile (a multi stakeholder corporate social responsibility organization). On issues relating to corporate sustainability, she has served as a legal expert for various Institutions. She has also worked extensively for the international non-governmental organization Mani Tese. Mariarosa was also a professor in International Law Cases in the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan-Bicocca and senior lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan, Faculties of Law and Political and Social Sciences. Mariarosa obtained a degree in Advanced International Law from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Milan in 1995. She has post-graduate specializations in Human Rights and in business administration, with a specific focus on social and environmental sustainability.

Marta Espelta, Project Manager, La Caixa Foundation. Marta joined “la Caixa” Foundation International Division in 2004. She has been in charge of development projects in Latin America, Africa and Asia, the child vaccination programme and the innovative and successful CSR Business Alliance for Child Vaccination which encourages Spanish companies to join the fight against child mortality. From 2011 to 2015 Marta was Head of the Foundation office in Washington DC. Over there she established partnerships with different US foundations and international organizations and agencies, fostering, among others, collaborations regarding International Corporate Volunteering initiatives such as IMPACT 2030. Currently and based back in Barcelona, she has been appointed responsible for the new education programme “ProFuturo” launched by “la Caixa” Foundation and Telefónica Foundation in July 2016. “la Caixa” Foundation is a leading Spanish social, non-profit organisation whose mission is to build a better, fairer society by offering greater opportunities to the people most in need. Its main strategic lines of action revolve around social outreach, research, culture and education. Since 2005 the Foundation has been promoting Corporate Volunteering initiatives which count on over 13.000 volunteers (employees and relatives) devoted to activities benefitting children, senior citizens, patients with terminal illness and adults at risk of social exclusion. Hala el-Helou, Liaison Officer/Advisor to the Minister on Humanitarian and International Affairs, Lebanon. Hala El Helou Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs, Lebanon Hala is the Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs on Humanitarian and International Affairs as well as the General Supervisor for the Syria Crisis Response at the Ministry. She is currently also tasked with coordinating the national planning process to respond to the refugee crisis and its repercussions leading to the adoption of the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (LCRP). Ying Wang, Deputy General of Beijing Volunteer Service Federation, China. Mr. WANG Ying is the Deputy Secretary General of Beijing Volunteer Service Federation (BVF). Established in December 5th 1993, BVF is a nonprofit social organization which unites volunteer service organizations in the city, established by self-motivated government departments, corporations, institutions, civil society organizations and other public welfare enthusiasts from different areas and fields that provide voluntary service to society. It is the first provincial level volunteer-involving organization registered by the provincial civic affairs department. BVF’s major functions are to formulate, implement and coordinate Beijing’s volunteer sector; to incubate and provide capacity-building for volunteer and volunteer service organizations; conduct research on volunteerism and participate in policy formulation; and to promote exchanges and cooperation with other volunteer organizations domestically and internationally. BVF was recognized as an “Outstanding Volunteer Service Organization” by the UN System in China in 2008. Mr. WANG Ying used to work in Tsinghua University before he joined BVF in 2013. He holds a doctoral degree in Law from Tsinghua University.

Mr. Paisan Rupanichkij is a Deputy Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Megan Haddock, International Research Projects Manager, Center for Civil Society Studies, Johns Hopkins University. Megan Haddock is the International Research Projects Manager for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Civil Society Studies. She is a lead author of the ILO Manual on the Measurement of Volunteer Work (2011), and has published articles related to documenting the contribution of volunteering to development, particularly with regard to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, in the journal Voluntaris, and for the International Forum for Volunteering in Development. Patrick van Weerelt, Head of Office at United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) - Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development. Patrick van Weerelt (the Netherlands) took up his new assignment as Head of Office of the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in October 2015. The Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, based in Bonn, Germany, officially opened in March 2016 to respond to the comprehensive learning, training and knowledge management needs of UN staff and partners in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Patrick has extensive capacity development, policy and program experience in the field of sustainable development, democratic governance and human rights and has served at HQ, Regional and country level for the United Nations. Prior to joining the UN System Staff College in Turin in 2011, Patrick served as UNDP Practice Leader for Democratic Governance in West- and Central Africa (based in Dakar) covering 23 countries in the sub-region, and as Senior Human Rights Adviser at UNDP HQ in New York. He began his UN career at UN OHCHR in Geneva following which he moved to UNDP in South Africa. Patrick is a lawyer by training and also served (from 2006-2009) as Adjunct Professor at Washington College of Law, American University, Washington D.C. He is married with two children.

Geoffrey Prewitt, Chief, Development Programming Section, UNV. Mr Geoffrey Prewitt was appointed Chief of the Development Programming Section, United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, in October 2014. Prior to joining UNV, he was the Deputy Head and Practice Coordinator of the UNDP Regional Centre in Cairo, Egypt, from 2011 to 2014. In his current role with UNV, Mr Prewitt provides leadership in the area of development and global oversight for UN volunteering in nearly 100 countries, ensuring integrated client services, quality programming and volunteer management, advocacy and advisory services for volunteerism. He joined UN family in the mid-1990s, initially serving as a researcher and advisor for UNDP and served in multiple postings. During the course of the past 18 years, Mr Prewitt has gained experience serving the UN and civil society organizations, including in complex crisis and political settings. He has written and spoken extensively on issues of civic engagement, governance and political economy of the Arab world; his most recent work focused on governance transitions in

Toily Kurbanov, Deputy Executive Coordinator - Management Services, UNV. Mr Toily Kurbanov (Russian Federation) took up his appointment as the Deputy Executive Coordinator, Management Services, of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in August 2016. Mr. Kurbanov joined UNV from Myanmar, where he had led UNDP’s strategic support to the nation’s democratic transformation in his role as UNDP Country Director since 2012. During his time in Myanmar, he mobilized UN expertise and policy advice to help develop the capacity of national legislature, to support justice sector reform, decentralization and post-conflict recovery in ethnic areas, and to assist national stakeholders in sharpening the focus of socio-economic policies towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. From 2007 to 2012, Mr. Kurbanov worked as Deputy Resident Representative in Fiji and the Pacific Small Island Developing States, where he provided day-to-day management of UNDP, including implementation of the agency’s programmes in areas of climate change adaptation, disaster resilience, poverty reduction and civic education. Mr. Kurbanov joined UNDP in 2004 through the Leadership Development Programme, initially serving as Management Specialist in the Office of Planning and Budgeting at UNDP Headquarters and supporting design and implementation of corporate systems for result-based management and budgeting. Prior to joining the UN, Mr. Kurbanov had a distinguished career in the Government of Turkmenistan: as Ambassador to Armenia (2000-2003), Chairman of the State Tourism Corporation (1999-2000) as well as Minister of Foreign Economic Relations (1997-1998). As cabinet member and subsequently as senior diplomat, Toily leveraged the breadth of his respective portfolios and depth of his expertise to promote national socio-economic reforms and to facilitate international trade and investment. Toily was invited to join the government having succeeded in the banking sector, where he worked as First Vice President (1995-1997) and Director of International Settlements (1993-1995) at the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, contributing to the modernization and improved transparency of the banking sector of the newly independent nation.

Kazumi Ikeda-Larhed, Chief, Partnerships & Communications Division, UNV. Kazumi Ikeda-Larhed joined the UN Volunteers Programme (UNV) Headquarters in Bonn, Germany in September 2012 as Chief of Partnerships and Communications Division. Her Division is responsible for global partnerships management, resource mobilization and corporate communications to promote volunteering for peace and development, in collaboration with diverse stakeholders. She oversees the work of Partnerships Section, Communications Section, Office of New York and Tokyo Liaison Office. She was instrumental in convening the firs-ever UNV Global Partnerships Forum in Bonn in September 2014. On the International Volunteer Day on 5 December 2014, she chaired the launch event of the new UN-private sector coalition, called IMPACT 2030, at the UN Headquarters in New York, together with business leaders. Prior to joining the UNV, Kazumi headed the Partnerships and Cooperation Unit at the African Development Bank based in Tunis, Tunisia from 2007 to 2012. She led the management of co-financing, trust funds and knowledge partnerships with Governments, international financing institutions, regional organizations, the private sector, foundations and academia. Kazumi served as Chair of the newly-established Bank’s Inter-Complex Standing Committee on Partnership which provided strategic oversight on all its partnerships engagements. She started her career in international development cooperation with Japan’s Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund in Tokyo. After a two-year assignment with UNDP Fiji as Junior Professional Officer, she worked with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Pakistan as Gender Policy Advisor, in the Philippines as Gender Policy Advisor, in South Africa as Project Formulation Advisor, covering Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Southern African Development Community as well as the New Partnerships for Africa’s Development of the African Union. In 2004-2006, she served as JICA Policy Advisor to the Africa Partnerships Unit of the Development Bank for Southern Africa in Midrand, South Africa. During her extensive professional life, Kazumi has led a number of high-level dialogues with decision-makers in both the public and private sectors from around the world.

Nicola Harrington, Deputy Executive Coordinator, Volunteer Mobilization and Programme (VMP), UNV. Ms Nicola Harrington (United Kingdom) took up her appointment as the Deputy Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in June 2016. Nicola joined UNV from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, where she was the Deputy Director of its Development Centre. Prior to joining the OECD, Nicola was the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova, coordinating UN activities in development and human rights, including the UN’s engagement in confidence building with the Transnistrian region. Before that, Nicola held the position of Deputy Director for Policy and Communications, UN/UNDP Brussels Office, coordinating UN engagement on development policy issues with institutions of the European Union. She also served as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia and Montenegro, Director of UNDP Resources Mobilization Division, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Nicaragua, UNDP Assistant Resident Representative in Malawi, and JPO in Argentina. Prior to joining the UN system, Nicola worked for the Bank of England, specializing in financial trade liberalization and building bridges between government and industry positions in international negotiations. Nicola holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Warwick Business School and a Master of Science (Econ) degree in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom. In 2012, she was co-winner of the Haldane Prize for innovation in public administration. Nicola is a World Fellow of Yale University.

Alexandra Solovieva, Chief, Programme Coordination Section, UNV. Alexandra Solovieva has served as the Deputy Country Director (Programme) in India since April 2011. In that capacity she leads one of UNDP’s largest programmes in five thematic areas from poverty reduction, democratic governance, energy and environment, to disaster risk reduction, and basic social services. With USD 40-60 million annual delivery, UNDP partners with almost twenty Ministries in India and a large number of front line civil society organizations, academic institutions and think tanks and operates projects in

most of the 29 Indian states. A number of innovative modalities were launched recently including the development support services and the result management system with programme defences and critical result paths allowing UNDP to align to the new Strategic Plan and new government priorities. Alexandra also supports the UNV programme in India. Prior to coming to India, Alexandra served as the Programme Specialist in the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific in New York. Alexandra oversaw three country desks including Cambodia, Viet Nam and Mongolia and held a number of regional focal point responsibilities for UN reform, partnerships with private sector, results-based management, climate change. Alexandra supported the One UN in Viet Nam and helped develop a number of country programmed documents and country programme action plans. Before moving to RBAP, Alexandra was the Management Specialist in the Bureau of Management, New York where she focused on the Balanced Scorecard and helped establish the Management Consulting Team. Before joining the lead programme in 2003 Alexandra was the head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Laos. In that capacity she supported the work of sixteen UN agencies, funds and programmes on the CCA/UNDAF, MDG monitoring and campaign, status of UN conventions and treaties, joint programming, and communications. Alexandra has completed four years of service as the International UN Volunteer in the field. She started her career with UNDP in 1996 managing projects in the areas of governance, environmental management, and small-grants programmes in partnership with the civil society. Alexandra holds two Masters degrees: in Oriental Studies from the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. She’s focused in her thesis on the implications of the new era of development cooperation and emerging partners for the change process at UNDP. She has Bachelor in Oriental and African Studies. Alexandra is married with two children.

Amanda Khozi Mukwashi, Chief, Volunteer Knowledge and Innovation Section, UNV. Ms Amanda Khozi Mukwashi is the Chief of the Volunteer Knowledge and Innovation Section at the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, responsible for policy, research, innovation and advocacy. With an educational background in Law, she has worked for over 20 years in development on issues of gender justice, civic engagement, economic empowerment and volunteerism. Among some of the organizations she has worked with and roles she has held are: Director of Policy at Voluntary Service Overseas, Head of

Shubh Chakraborty, Portfolio Associate, Peace Division, UNV.

Mr. Chakraborty took up his appointment as Portfolio Associate, with the

Peace Programming Section, Volunteer Mobilization and Programme, of the

United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in May 2006.

Mr. Chakraborty joined UNV from the Wall Street Institute, where he was a

Training Officer responsible for client management and training. He also

worked with Hawlitzeck & Partner as a Consultant Trainer coordinating and

delivering customized management and leadership development, executive

coaching, teambuilding, and soft skills training to client groups.

Before that, Mr. Chakraborty held the position of Assistant Training Manager

with EXL Services, responsible for overall learning and development needs of

new business transitions. He led a team of professional trainers, instructional

designers, and vendors to produce management and training curriculum aimed

at increased client satisfaction, productivity, employee upskilling and

retention, and business profitability. He also worked with General Electric, as

Senior Training Officer and Team Leader, supporting the learning and

performance of teams, under GE’s continuous learning and development

programme, covering operations in the UK and Australia. Prior to that, Mr.

Chakraborty worked with the Radisson Hotel in India.

Mr. Chakraborty holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from

the Institute of Hotel Management, New Delhi, India, and he is currently

pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management – Training and

Organizational Development from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
