Month of the Precious Blood The month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood. The feast of the Precious Blood of our Lord was instituted in 1849 by Pius IX, but the devotion is as old as Christianity. The early Fathers say that the Church was born from the pierced side of Christ, and that the sacraments were brought forth through His Blood. "The Precious Blood which we worship is the Blood which the Savior shed for us on Calvary and reassumed at His glorious Resurrection; it is the Blood which courses through the veins of His risen, glorified, living body at the right hand of God the Father in heaven; it is the Blood made present on our altars by the words of Consecration; it is the Blood which merited sanctifying grace for us and through it washes and beautifies our soul and inaugurates the beginning of eternal life in it." Devotion to the Precious Blood is not a spiritual option, it is a spiritual obligation, and that not only for priests, but for every follower of Christ. I really believe that one of the symptoms of modern society (and I would even include, sadly, modern Catholic society) one of the symptoms of a growing, gnawing secularism is the lessening and the weakening of devotion to the Precious Blood. Devotion, as we know, is a composite of three elements: It is first- veneration, it is secondly- invocation, and it is thirdly- imitation. In other words, devotion to the Precious Blood of Christ, the Lamb of God who was slain, is first of all to be veneration on our part, which is a composite of knowledge, love and adoration. We are to study to come to a deeper understanding of what those two casual words, Precious Blood, really mean. A few of you have been asking why we are singing the Gloria in Latin these past few weeks. Three reasons: 1) it’s a beautiful setting of the Mass, called Missa de Angelis (Mass of the Angels). It’s normally the Mass setting whenever the Holy Father has a public Mass at the Vatican . 2) Catholics need to know basic prayers and Mass parts in Latin- it’s part of our ancient tradition which the Vatican II documents said should be retained. 3) During this pandemic, it is recommended that vigorous singing not be done, since medical officials have stated that the corona virus is transmitted through air droplets- that’s why we only have one cantor at Mass and no pew missals and no hymns. We will go back to the Mass setting you know better once it is safe for all of us to sing and we can have our pew missals in the racks again. Meanwhile, you are welcome to bring your own missals. The Blessed Sacrament is Exposed every Tuesday evening form 6pm-7pm for your quiet prayer time. Confessions available. Come and spend some quiet time with the Lord!

The Heresy of Modernism infilitrating the Catholic Church Pope Piux X dubbed Modernism “the synthesis of all heresies.” Modernists viewed doctrine not as a means of obtaining supernatural knowledge, but as a symbol of an unknowable ultimate reality or as a symbol of human religious expression. Because they do not contain genuine knowledge of the supernatural, theological dogmas are relative and may be adopted or rejected based on whether they exercise power over people’s imaginations. Those dogmas which are found productive to people’s religious sentiments are to be accepted, then abandoned when they are no longer found satisfying. Dogmas may thus change over time, either being completely rejected or re-interpreted and given a meaning different than what they originally had.
