2. Joe Camel, the cartoon character that became a focus of perhaps the most intense attacks against American advertising campaign. 3. FTC-Federal Trade Commission Their mission is to prevent business practices that are anticompetitive oor unfair to consumers; to enhance informed consumers choice and public understanding of the competitive process; and to accomplish this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity. 4. United States advertising approx. spends $285 billion dollars annually. 5. Heineken spent an estimated $10 million dollars for James Bond to drink a Heineken and not a Martini. Anheuser Bush is always a big spender for the Super Bowl. 6. An estimated $212 billion dollars is spent by children under twelve and teenagers. 7. Companies are no longer advertising for the short term, they want to build brand loyalty and it starts with the children. 8. A single set of universal standards will consider what is good, bad, or just acceptable. 9. Ethics in advertising remains a complex issue. What one person considers ethical, another may consider unethical.
